Alien's DNA(?) but very different offspring

Mightily impressed by the marketing campaign, enjoyed the trailer(s) and even more so the analysis/digging/speculation in these pages. I get the feeling though that 'Prometheus' is much more a shiny-smart Hollywood beast than 'Alien' ever was - just listen to the dialogue in the trailer, look at the Beautiful People populating the cast. No Brett or Parker types here, no downbeat naturalism to the performances and no grimy, gritty working look to the human milieu depicted. A very slick world.

Reimer, In the AMC Live Q&A Ridley said he wasn't going to do grunge. Grunge has been over done. But the only "beautiful people" in the movie is Charlize. Noomi here in the US is really an unknown, Edris has done some work but not a lot to be a household name. These are the only two people in the cast that I can think of that I would know right off hand. If you look at what Noomi goes through in the Medbay I would say she is quit gritty and grimy from the slug....LOL. yeah I know not what you meant. Its supposed to be neat and clean science investigation. Regards, Rick

i didnt care for the new slick look either, but as they said it is its own movie. i still think it looks like a great movie. ALIEN has such hard core fans it would be impossible to please all of us, we will have a problem with SOMETHING lol. i liked the old space suits in ALIEN much better then these super tight blue ones. i didnt like them from the start because they look more futuristic then the ones in alien. but, i guess they have more money on this expedition for nicer suits then they would be able to afford on the nostromo crew. who knows how old those suits might have been. i also wonder if the big difference in the look had to do with the actors overheating in the ALIEN space suits so they went with something sleeker and lighter.

Well the two that interact with Shaw and halloway while they explain the mission arent exactly beautiful people ...and after all Noomi Rapace isnt really so beautiful .... Logan Green look a bit out of place yes .... I miss the fossilized , coloured , alive feeling of the interior of the derelict in Alien ( while in prometheus is metallic cold )...but we dont know if at the end we will not arrive at that ...

I'm getting the feeling that this movie will be a direct side-quel versus a "kinda, sorta side-quel" , seeing as how this crew will not come in contact with the Xenomorph(per R.S.), but they will find out about the Space Jockey and are employed by the same company. This idea reminds me of the film Soldier with Kurt Russell. Writer David Webb Peoples said that Soldier was a "side-quel" of sorts in that Soldier took place in the Blade Runner universe. Hence, the mention of the Tannhauser Gate in both films, as well as the "Spinner" from Blade Runner that was found on the junk planet in Soldier.

I think the suits in Prometheus are different because they're not designed for EVA in space, but EVA on a planet with simply a hostile atmosphere or something. Therefore they don't need to be as bulky.

The new look is simply because this is a "first" mission of first contact. The ship is brand new and a research vessel unlike the Nostromo which was basically a "truck." The suits have to be space pressure suits because space vacuum is always a possibility in space travel. They're just new and state-of-the-art to their time. Alien was "working class." Prometheus appears to be "white collar, advanced scientific."
