Cobralien Patch-up?

To those who've been back to see the film a few times now, can you tell me if my memory is playing tricks on me when it tells me that the Cobralien's forced ingress into Milburn's mouth really looked very poorly done? I'm wondering if that scene was butchered at the last minute to make something fit. Thanks R

I agree with you, but it was so fast and that scene was so intense that I don't think too many people really cared/noticed. I do know that the first trailer that was shown at Comic Con 2011 contained footage of the Hammerpede's tail slithering into the hole in his suit, so I'm doubtful that the scene was changed at the last minute.

if we get to see more of Milburn's death, I suspect he might go through more agony before he dies. IMO.

I think there's LOTS MORE DEATH & AGONY (and potentially STORY) to squeeze from a re-cut.
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

If you have seen the making of alien, when the face hugger breaches the egg and attrached itself to kanes face, ridley scott used 3 individual scenes . he edited them together to get the very effective shot that he got.
"how do you feel?"-" great, next stupid question"

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I too wondered if something more prolonged and horrific had been intended. The leaked audio from the scene unsettled me far more than the actual film. And I can't believe that the silly DIY Caesarean was the 'shocker'/money-shot that the director had in mind as the film's peak of horror. R

I also thought this of two other areas of the film: The tongues as they pulled apart Shaw's stomach incision The inseminating tongue/pipe that entered the Engineer's mouth near the end. Both looked too CGI for me

I suspect Milburn was meant to be burrowed into originally (in a reversal of Kane's fate) but the film-makers bottled out. His death throes were painted over with a crap CGI snake entering his gaping, roaring-with-agony mouth in a visual non-sequitir.

that scene left me with the feeling that there was more too it that may have been cut out (at least i hope). like how did the hammerpede kill him, what was it doing in there? was it in his stomach, or in his lungs? was it sucking blood, or eating his organs, or liquifying him on the inside like a spider does to its meal? i for one would like to see a postmortem exam!

Was it just me or were the visuals overall not that great? All the CGI horror effects weren't as effective as Alien. I kinda get the almost coulda shoulda woulda PG-13 now, there were no nightmares there. You could almost argue the lizard mouse chomping on the other mouse in Spider-man was gorier than everything other than the abortion. The space effects were nice, but the action involved wasn't that exciting (landing wasn't anywhere near as intense as Alien, the crash was slow with no real tension other than will Vickers escape or not, and the rolling donut crash landing was really lame). Even the environments were basically some futuristic rooms with holograms and a cave.

Cuddles' climactic scrap with the Engineer looked pretty naff IIRC - in fact, Cuddles in close-up put me in mind of the rubbishy CGI from the last part of 'The Thing', that big let-down of last year that made me wonder "What if 'The Phantom Prometheus' turns out not as good as hoped...?" Handsome though the film was, it really all looked too sleek to help convey an atmosphere of menace. 'Alien' really felt like a despatch from some remote, bleak, God-forsaken place - this film's setting(s) and cast felt like they might nip out to the planet's local Starbucks during the expedition to chill and blog on their iPad391s.

I didn't find fault with the Special Effects..while watching the movie..and at time they distracted me from various plot holes/elements...and that is OK for me during the first viewing. When I see it again my brian will try to analyze the various special sceens,,,looking for poor quality... I especailly want to see the Orrey section..
