Couldn't find this anywhere recently or otherwise... lock freely if it's been discussed. Are we missing something obivious? The woman looking biomech figure giving birth... it's the derelict. The shape is also very reminiscent of the Egyptian symbol of "KA" translated as "soul or spirit". Ridley is a fan of the "all about everything" theory... right? I began thinking of this based on the other thread about the "derelict as a meatphor". There will be tons of cross-religious metaphors... yes? Collating...

I realized somethng else late last night ina cold sweat that's kinda related. Ridley, in that same speech i think, mentioned the last 8 minutes of the film, and that this is WHERE we will see ties to the Alien Franchise/Universe..."starands of DNA' was how he put it... I think in the last 8 minutes this is where we will see whatever made the hole in the hull of the Space Jockey Vessel and which we all know where it leads, I think we're going to see 1 or more facehuggers in the last 8 minutes of the film. Just an educated hunch.

@ Spartacus: Something makes that hole, right? A facehugger has the ability to melt through a space helmet without hurting its occupant and one drop of its blood nearly breeched the Nostromo... tough little sons of bitches.

Is it just me or does the victim in that picture look slightly like a Space Jockey? Maybe it's just Giger's style .

No, That is EXACTLY WHAT IT IS ...I RECOMMEND YOU READ OR LOOK THROUGH THE BOOK AT LEAST ENTITLED..."NECRONOMICON"...YOU CAN FIND EXPLANATIONS FOR HIS MORE INFLUENTIAL PAINTINGS AND ALSO THE BOOK "THE ALIEN VAULT" EXPLAINS A LOT OF THEM AS WELL. THERE ARE LOTS OF REFERENCES IN THE ONLINE db OF STUFF AS WELL IF YOU GO LOOKING ON GOOGLE YOU CAN FIND WHERE TO DOWNLOAD THE ACTUAL BOOK ITSELF WHICH I DID AND IT IS AWESOME.

hello,. This Giger painting made me think the alien (pictured top) is fertilising the egg,. The glow comes from the belly,. the life force to coppulate the egg,.

db

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 9:29 AM
...the belly of the beast? (derelict?)

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 9:29 AM
What if where the egg is coming from is the womb of the one that created it? Shaw? It is pretty obvious that the figure is female....like Murphy said, the Life Force or the origin of this egg is from a female but what kind of female?

db

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 9:55 AM
Yes... what if the derelict is a female? DA-DA-DAAAAA!

With just a quick search on Google I came up with 2 early posts about this: The Source of an Alien Derelict Nut The shape is most definitely based on Nut rather than Ka though.

@Cain, EXACTLY! That's what I was thinking. What happens if in the last few moments of the trailer when Shaw screams "PLEASE", she's giving birth to an egg.

Yes, thanks for those links Biomechanic. I see this has been previously dealt with brilliantly. And here I've been sitting sifting through the pages of posts on this site when I could simply Google my request... sometimes my stupidity amazes me. http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/435

critics have commented on the vaginal likeness of the hole in the derelict.....the comparison between the derelict and nut is a very interesting one

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 3:32 PM
Wiki says this Nut was the goddess of the sky.She was seen as arching over the earth, protecting it. Theres your confirmation for noahs ark then too.... Wow and all this was already concieved and I never even looked into this symboliism before hearing of prometheus but then again why would you as it's only now they are starting to let this cat out the bag.... Jone's.... Jonesy..... Here kitty kitty

whoops double post.... Anyway the shape is basically uncanny I think you are 110% right on this one.... Just also picked up on this after further reading on wiki A sacred symbol of Nut was the ladder, used by Osiris to enter her heavenly skies. This ladder-symbol was called maqet and was placed in tombs to protect the deceased Jacobs Ladder from spirit to matter and matter to spirit in conjunction with the signs of the zodiacin our galaxy she Who Holds a Thousand Souls: Because of her role in the re-birthing of Ra every morning and in her son Osiris's resurrection, Nut became a key god in many of the myths about the after-life Nut was the goddess of the sky and all heavenly bodies, a symbol of protecting the dead when they enter the after life. According to the Egyptians, during the day, the heavenly bodies—such as the sun and moon—would make their way across her body. Then, at dusk, they would be swallowed, pass through her belly during the night, and be reborn at dawn Nut is also the barrier separating the forces of chaos from the ordered cosmos in the world Ridley also said they would have 2 sides to the Space Jocky alien race and talked about chaos and order... Hmmmm defo onto somthing with this one yep So somone is going to die and be brought back to life in this film... but won't be the same? I think this is perhaps a big possibility we see a resurrection... Could get a bit fanatical on that spaceship but instead of just a horror death we see a resurrection thats actually scarier the archielogical dig will probably be eygpt or near to which is in africa where also the first homo-sapiens are reported to have evolved. Going to start researching RA and Osiris now... RA is the sun and Osiris is the eye if I'm not mistaken... So we've just leaped from greek mythology to eygptian mythology but greek mythology is later on so we must start before weylands references to unravel some of this puzzle.... AMAZING POST BY THE OP Basically even if the SJ's exterminated all of us they could bring us all back to life again if they wanted to ha ha think about that Now I've also started thinking about soul swapping can they swap peoples souls that would mean the only ones who would be imune are the androids in this scenario... Like taking holloways soul and put somone else in there or swap crew members souls about very psychological horror gone insane after all the body is only a vessel, matter is it all about the soul this movie and life and death... Perhaps we are thinking on the wrong level and need to start thinking of the human soul and not the crude material i,e, the biological skills we know the SJ's to already possess

I've always thought that the ship is part of the alien lifecycle. The eggs are made by the ship and the aliens, when functioning normally, are essential components of it.

The ship is alive, biomechanical indeed, so when the jockey places on his suit and sits in that chair, he becomes one with that ship is flying, not only can he fly it but have the ship create the cargo and exactly how much he needs of it....

also, what if Shaw is the key to this...?

My epic post just diasappeared wtf While it is generally agreed that pyramids were burial monuments, there is continued disagreement on the particular theological principles that might have given rise to them. One theory is that they were designed as a type of "resurrection machine

@ Ronster: Hey man, I've posted this on other threads too. About losing your posts... If you're signed in and you begin to write an epic post (which usually takes thought and time), your sign-in will expire because the site doesn't know you've spent all that time writing and thinks you've been dormant. My suggestion is to ALWAYS copy your text once you've written it, then hit the "submit" button. If it works... great. If it doesn't re-paste what you copied and submit it. Hope that helps.

Thanks... Yes theres an awful lot of creedance in the book of the dead... But having read about the location or a part of the archielogical dig petra has been revealed.... It does tie to eygpt as petra came later but trying to find out how this correlates together hieroglyphic script was held to have been invented by the god Thoth, and the hieroglyphs themselves were powerful. Written words conveyed the full force of a spell.[19] This was even true when the text was abbreviated or omitted, as often occurred in later Book of the Dead scrolls, particularly if the accompanying images were present.[20] The Egyptians also believed that knowing the name of something gave power over it; thus, the Book of the Dead equips its owner with the mystical names of many of the entities he would encounter in the afterlife, giving him power of them.[21] The spells of the Book of the Dead made use of several magical techniques which can also be seen in other areas of Egyptian life. A number of spells are for magical amulets, which would protect the deceased from harm. In addition to being represented on a Book of the Dead papyrus, these spells appeared on amulets wound into the wrappings of a mummy.[17] Everyday magic made use of amulets in huge numbers. Other items in direct contact with the body in the tomb, such as headrests, were also considered to have amuletic value.[22] A number of spells also refer to Egyptian beliefs about the magical healing power of saliva The path to the afterlife as laid out in the Book of the Dead was a difficult one. The deceased was required to pass a series of gates, caverns and mounds (pyrimid) guarded by supernatural creatures.[39] These terrifying entities were armed with enormous knives and are illustrated in grotesque forms, typically as human figures with the heads of animals or combinations of different ferocious beasts. Their names—for instance, "He who lives on snakes" or "He who dances in blood"—are equally grotesque. These creatures had to be pacified by reciting the appropriate spells included in the Book of the Dead; once pacified they posed no further threat, and could even extend their protection to the dead person.[40] Another breed of supernatural creatures was 'slaughterers' who killed the unrighteous on behalf of Osiris; the Book of the Dead equipped its owner to escape their attentions.[41] As well as these supernatural entities, there were also threats from natural or supernatural animals, including crocodiles, snakes, and beetles Basically it was a type of purgatory the spells were used to ease the passage against these encounters to await final judgement by osiris son of nut. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_the_dead

This thread has seemed to me the most significant one on this forum. I googled around a bit and found: http://ioannis.virtualcomposer2000.com/writing/Derelict.html which is a very interesting article about the topic of the thread written in 2011. Once pointed out, the similarity between the derelict, the goddess nut of egypt and Gigers nut (xeno lifecycle) is so striking its impossible to ignore. One thing i couldnt quite make fit was the placement of the vaginal entrances on the derelict. However Gigers Nut not only copies the bending egyptian godess nut on hands and feet, but also can be viewed as a female spreading her legs giving birth...the placement of the vaginal entrances now fit. This is where my skin begins to crawl considering Shaws painful scream 'please'. The derelict is a bit of a horrorstory in itself.....but that article i linked to describes it better than i can.

I find this thread to be the most significant/insightful one on the forum so far. I did some googling and found this great article from 2011: http://ioannis.virtualcomposer2000.com/writing/Derelict.html Its a must-read for anyone interested in the derelict. Once pointed out its impossible to ignore the similarities between the derelict, the egyptian goddess Nut and Gigers Nut (xeno lifecycle). What i couldnt make sense of was the placement of the vaginal entrances on the derelict, but Gigers Nut is not only a copy of the egyptian goddess bending on hands and feet (with an egg emerging from her belly). It can also clearly be viewed as a female spreading her legs and giving birth. The placement of the vaginal entrance on the derelict makes sense all of a sudden. This is where my skin begins to crawl considering Shaws scream of agony.
