March 23, 2012Hmm... interesting theories and very enjoyable to read them. Just joined the site and am a huge fan of Ridley's films and Alien and Prometheus is definately THE big film for me this year!
Anyway so here's what I have to say about the above theories if I may :) Firstly all of the theories posted above suggest that either a facehugger or other xenomorph made the hole that leads from the space jockey chamber into the egg chamber/cave- which is fine - but surely in order for that to happen, the facehugger/xeno would have to have been splattered in order to release the acid blood that would melt the structure thus causing the hole... neither the facehuggers or xenos spit acid while they're alive so that's the logical assumption. This in turn would mean that the hole would have been made from above since gravity pulls things down the way and also the roof of the egg chamber was so high up from where the eggs are that it would in my opinion be highly unlikey that any FH would climb all the way up to the top only to be splattered from below.
Going on this assumption then, perhaps one of the space jockeys bagged a facehugger prior to being infected by another, OR the space jockey pilot was infected and the emergent xeno was bagged by another space jockey? Who knows huh?
As for the egg chamber/cave, sure it's massive in scale but we are also led to believe that the derelict is too, and although the movie still above clearly shows the egg chamber following an s-shaped curve, it could simply just be a case of the set design from the original film not being factored into any future films whether sequels or prequels, because Ridley at the time had not planned to revisit the original Alien film. And I think that generally, bearing in mind that Prometheus is a film made 32 years after the original Alien film, we as an audience should accept some degree of looseness with regard to continuity where there are fixed precedents.
Anyway that's my take on it! Peace.
