The "Blue" Herring

Forgive me if someone floated this theory, but wouldn't it be hilarious if they put the big blue guy in the trailer just to screw with our minds? I doubt that is what they did, but he is so strange and unexpected. They had to know people would immediately react and be like, "why the crap is there a stereotypical blue humanoid alien in this movie"? I know I don't like the idea and am very curious how the heck they are going to involve him in a unique way. He is so...un-Alien! To better phrase, he is so non-Giger. I guess it makes sense to have a human looking being considering the giant head and the movie being about our origins...still it would be funny to watch the movie and go, "wait a minute, where was the big blue guy" =)

Hesjustagrunt, Ya.. I mean what the f*** where they thinking. They are making a trailer, then one of them say.. "no, put the blue guy in.. put the blue guy in"... then Ridley says.. "You think? But If I put the blue guy in.. it will just mess with every one...", "Ya, Ya.. that's what we want.. We'll show them the blue guy, then we'll tell them its a prequel.. then we'll tell them it's not a prequel... man we'll mind deficate them..." Ridley just strokes his chin.. "Ok.. lets do it!"..

I suppose it's possible that the blue guy is a hoax of some kind, but I do seriously dought it. Maybe in all of our speculation we have forgotten that there is a possibility that the actual main plot may not set the SJ as the center point. Maybe there is a deeper plot, somewhere between human and SJ. After all it seems that it's the mix of the two (on some level)that result in the creation of the xeno we have all come to admire. For now I'll go with the FACT(oh boy...) that Ridley plainly said that the SJ in alien was a suit and that he always wanted to elaborate on what was inside the suit. It would seem...there's a blue guy in the suit. Or would that just be to easy?
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

I dont think the guy is blue at all. Probably white skinned or something. I think it is the light in the room making it look like he has blue skin....

Gotta admit, that I am actually fascinated by this mysterious bluish biomechanic humanoid with his streamlined features and sculptured look. I imagine him as some kind of superiour, superintelligent higher being with an ice cold and calculated mind, operating on an intellectual and psychic level, that no human can fathom. He has a cynical and scientific approach to human beings and his true agenda is repulsive, disturbing and...uncivilized. Well, just imagining...

I have a feeling we were only shown the tall, pale-bluish guy because there's another, more ancient race that's responsible for all of the bio tech, and the bald guys' technology. So, in a way, I think it really could be a "blue herring". I'm still sticking to my guns and thinking the tall guy represents the Olympian Gods, and the second unrevealed race, which is near extinct, represents the Titans (or Elder Gods) who've been replaced in the hierarchy. I think the Weyland corporation will see the Prometheus myth repeat itself within the plot of the film. Just like Zeus overthrew the Elder God Kronos in the myths, one of the Elder Gods' children grew to overthrow and enslave their creators in the past. The last remaining member of this slave race of former genetic masters attempts to help the humans and warn them of the true nature of their hosts. Like Zeus, perhaps they tasked some of the Titans/Genetic engineers with creating humanity (former Elder Gods Epimetheus and Prometheus). The blue guys preserve and guard what's left of the power they stole aeons ago: their ancient geneticists; whose genetic mastery and DNA is closer to the idea of a true God, and is the key to creating life. After the crew is accustomed to the blue guys and believe them to be Gods, one crew member is startled when the first of the two remaining ancient ones is discovered alive in a space Jockey cryo-chamber... It attempts to give one crew member a gift that will save them from what is about to befall them. It bestows him the power to create/enhance life and later forms a temporary cure for the virus, that joins with this member's bio-synthetic blood. The Gods(Blue guys) become angered and systematically release a deadly mutagen that will turn the crew against each other; with some resisting the transformation or avoiding direct contact to the first strain released--a weaponized version of the power of the ancient ones converted into nano-spores that creates new life within the host by converting the organic material from the inside out. Even deceased hosts, in which case the developing being springs from what's left/available of the biological material almost immediately. The airborne strain, infused with nano-technology, is introduced to wipe out the crew after the more biological based parasitic snake creature fails. And this strain moves slower at first, but can control the minds of the developing beings once they start to change. However, it has quite a different effect when the blue guys attempt to use it to stall one of the awakened Elder Gods' progress (the one representing Epimetheus). In their haste they use the nanite enhanced strain that would ultimately kill it and not their normal strain for keeping it subservient. The results differ from the humans when they turn this strain on the actual Elder Gods themselves. The Gods infect it with a bastardized/weaponized version of its own genetic legacy, which the Gods stole from these more ancient beings. The ancient ones/Elder Gods created both us and the tall blue guys, as well as Gaia. The Blue Guys are just power hungry. Chaos ensues as the remaining humans fight for survival against: the creatures who were formerly their colleagues, one of the Elder Gods who's mutating and crazed(controlled), the tall blue guys who are now space bound, an Elder God who is confused about how to react (uncontrolled- nanites didn't take only altered the alien infection) & the new, incredibly hostile, uncontrolled creatures that are spawned. The blue guys miscalculated and infecting their enslaved engineers with something they only pretend to have mastered was a huge mistake leading to their demise.

The key is that the Elder Gods, who later became the Titans, would sometimes produce monstrous offspring when the genetics mixed wrong, unlike the benifits granted to demi-gods (mixture of God and man DNA). I think the Weyland corporation will see the Prometheus myth repeat itself within the plot of the film. Well you can believe that the "blue guy" is not there by accident. They could have easily cropped him out of the frame if they only wanted to include that scene so you could see the familiar s/j chair. I agree with you in that there are a lot more surprises in store for us than the giant "blue guy". They're letting us see just enough to let fan speculation run wild, and it certainly has.

I always thought it would be hysterical if we found out that Ridley was playing everyone like this...during an interview after Prometheus got released and it ends up being a film that say features a "Xenomorph" in it {just using the creature as an example}I envisioned... He turns to the reporter and laughs and says..."I Lied Deliberately" !!! "I have been Lying since Day 1" " I had to protect this wonderful stroy we came up with" and "everyone knows how you guys in the press are, especially with something like this and it's legacy" "You think I'd pass up my first chance in 33+ years to do some of this stuff?" and finaly "No way I'm gonna let it all get spoiled by leaks".... I personally would just love that...either way Xeno or no Xeno and all our best ideas being in it or not...It's forever gonna be his and Dan's and Gigers baby to me and whatever they came up with I trust in and will be fine with. In the end just from that first trailer you gotta know were talking about a finished product here that at worst...will be a very entertaining film if nothing else. Lastly, i rthink it will be much more than that myself, I think it's gonna be quite the special little film. In fact I am almost certain of it.

I just hope Scott does a nice job of creating a nice, new mythology. I mean what is the use of a multi million Dollar blockbuster if its mythology is not better than Stargate. It must be more convincing..having my doubts about ´ancient astronaut theory´

It appears to me that Mala'kak has the best synopsis that I have read on this board to date! I can't see why people are having such a hard time wrapping their head around the idea of "the blue dude/SJ/God". He is a bi-ped humanoid being, and this film being about the search for mankinds origin, with the whole idea of; " And God created man in his own image" We would be in the image of the blue dude (possibly the elder god that mala'kak speaks of) but far inferior. I like the idea that the blue dude stole the tech from the elder gods and they tinker and splice and create. After all, they are superior alien geneticists and scientists yet they do not fully understand the full potential of the tech for which they themselves have stolen. (and seems that they have no emotion of fear or disdain for life that they have created). The speculation is killing me!! lol

In response to the funny comment about the original movie being about the egg on the original poster: Lol! I wasn't referring to the giant human statue, if that is what you are comparing to the egg in the old poster. I'm not that daft =) I was talking about the one quick frame in the jockey chamber where you see the guy in the corner. I'm sure he has an important role in the story, but it would be easy to throw him in there to get us all talking and then brush him out. I started this post just as a funny "what if", not as a serious theory.

Oh yeah - someone said they didn't think the statue or the guy we are talking about is actually blue. I agree...I think the light creates the effect.

Mala'kak - Excellent post ! I'm with you 95%. The details are difficult to speculate on, but I too believe there is a higher 'god' at work here. To complete the Prometheus myth we need a Pandora (woman) in this movie to unleash the hellish nightmare that is Alien...

@tkfanboy421 I hope not. It would be awful for Ridley to throw out the fact of human evolution. It would be as dumb as John Carter on Mars, which looks nothing like mars and seems to have oxygen ??!! dumb dumb dumb

@latinhypercube All I am saying [look at it from a philosophic point of view while speculating] is that I found Mala'kak's post really fascinating (and legitimate). And that it was already stated that humans went looking for their origin. entertain the idea, just for a minute = that what the bible says about God creating man in his own image, then we see the bi-ped humanoid in the 1st trailer. Everything we know about the aliens being sexually perverse, and (i wish i hadn't read the fake script), the S/J possibly being the same way. Throw in the possibility that the bio-mech alien we all know could have originated from a mutated human genome. Then the transmision of "We were wrong, we were so wrong" Finally, all the horrific shit in between..........makes the idea that we find our human origin being in deep space, seeding it's idea of life through the universe, uncaring, unemotional, capable of torturing it's lesser creation...just because, and being "God" but the grotesque, horrific opposite of the loving caring God that is believed in every known relgion on earth? -creeps me the f**k out! (i can't wait to see this film!!) .......ALL IMO OF COURSE. :)

@TKfanboy421 "god created man in his own image" is actally quite modern religeon new testament stuff if God created man in his own image back in the ancient Eygptian Gods or Indian Gods days then man would look very different indeed so I think were going back a bit further than the new testament considering there are eyptian like sarcofagus with hieroglyphs on them in the picture released and the trailer think more BC as a launch pad but perhaps incorporating events that are AD also... It's not going to be stargate 2 or anything but I'm sure the earliest recorded civilised history has to be where the first connections are made
