MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 12:18 AMAlright.
I was the dink who had his folks hand over the paperback version of "Return of the Jedi" a week before release of aforementioned flick, only to turn to the last page and read:
"The Empire was dead. Long live the Rebel Alliance".
Or something like that. Hell, I was 13, so give a brother a break.
In any case, I did rush to the link presented (potential "Prometheus" script), and all I have to tell you is that the only thing I took away from this alleged "leak" were the laughable references as to who couldn't be called, put on a plane, or consulted for further development on the project.
However - do not read the damn thing, becuase there are many plausable plot points that might ruin the movie.
Having said this, I think a reference point for the movie is Milton's "Paradise Lost", only because there is a journey of self-discovery in the flick that, much as that tome, requires some sort of reflection.
Man, that sounds far deeper than the suds I am throwing back right now - gotta hit the 'fridge, refresh, recap, and throw my InnerSciFiAlienFanBoy in check (TM pending).
So how about this - will the flick be based on the "Intelligent Design" theory, that something created all of us/where we are, and has no patience for being discovered?
I say yes, and want you all to point, laugh, and throw stuff at this post. Just having fun being here, and want to throw a "thanks" toward the Admin. who will have a search engine in place to eliminate redundant posts. Most of what I've read has me really psyched. Came here after trolling to see the feedback, felt inclined to join, and contribute.
"We were wrong, we were so wrong" creeps me the HELL out.

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 7:39 AMI have to disagree about the plausible plot points. I read the script, and there was really nothing in there that we haven't already seen in either the trailer, the trailer previews, or still images. Sprinkled throughout are attempts to fill the gaps that have not yet been officially filled.
As a piece of fan fiction, the script is fine (if not particularly great from a grammatical and spelling standpoint.)
But for those of you who have not read the script...if it in fact IS the real thing, then this film is going to suck eggs...pun intended. :)

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 9:23 AMIf this movie is set BEFORE the 1979 version, how come everything looks so futuristic in comparison to the original ship and suit designs? Yes the Nostromo crew were engineers and the ship was a cargo vessel, but they didn't have touch screen consoles and lightweight suits. Far from it.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 9:26 AMThe script on here is abominable. Too brief, no great mythology, no backstory or character development, no real surprises, dialogue is utter drivvle, no character archs, no real build up. Reads like a short story. Extremely average. Scott won't let us down. Saying that...Robin Hood anyone?

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 12:11 PMIf its an early draft then it is merely the spine. Scott might have taken a look and said 'this is a good start' and go from there. We might be shocked, or someone on this forum might be getting a good laugh. To me it seemed very plausible.

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 1:03 PMI see where you are going Gordon, but look at it this way; basically technology in cinema in 77'-79' definately was far from the tech the producers and directors have at their disposal today. OR, like somebody already penned in another thread, the crew of the Nostromo were "space truckers". They were dirty low budget miners, who probably had the oldest, outdated spacesuits to use because "the company" wasn't going to throw any extra funding to go mine ore. That being said, the Prometheus crew has been given the top of the line everything. They have been afforded everything they could possibly need because they are on a scientific expedition of utmost importance to Mr. Weyland. ---just my 2 cents. (I do love the spit-balling going on about this film, sky's the limit till june...)

MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 8:29 PMI don't have a problem with the Prometheus being far more advanced than the Nostromo was. I work for a large company that uses multiple technologies to provide it's products and services. I can assure you that if a 40 year-old device is dependable, and there is no financially justifiable reason to replace it, then the company will continue to use it right next to the most advanced, latest and greatest. Economics drives the train now- even more so than 50 years ago. No reason I can think of that such mentality won't continue in this "plausible" future. it's just day-to-day business.
The equipment I work on has price ranges in the hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions. An interstellar space craft the size of the Nostromo would be in the hundreds of BILLIONS, so any company is going to squeeze every penny out of it for as long as possible.
