Giant Space jockey from alien vs Ardvark in prometheus

The spacejocky looks tiny compared to the original one in alien (youtube the scene) also the original jocky seemed to have a spine run down from its face all the way down to its stomach, the live one seems to have a short snout?

I would guess that's where the airhose would connect once the ship takes flight (?)

That's what I saw - the original Alien showed the SJ as huge, dwarfing the humans. But in the trailers, the SJ appears to be the same size or just slightly larger then the humans. I'm wondering if this is just an oversight, or if the suit the SJ wears is enormous? Or are they able to alter their size?

Yeah its probably some kind of life support system but it just seems like a bit of a short cut ( hey guys how will we explain the giant alien looking thing?....lets just say it was a massive space suit!) The ribs from the original were all burst outward but now we're led to believe the ribs are some kind of harness (seatbelt) so I'm guessing once the jocky realizes the prometheus is about to crash into his ship he tears at the ribcage like harness to free himself?

In Alien we see a fossilized suit, better to say DEAD suit. These are biomechanical things so they live and died like an organism. This is why in Alien we see a Bone Structured Suit. The same is for the interior of the derelict. The "spine" is obviously a air conduit so we will see it later.

Maybe there are many different species of hominid who have, at one point or another, become "Space Jockeys", and the one we see in ALIEN just started out as a particularly large creature? (I mean, there's nothing suggesting that the suit wouldn't "adapt" to the size of the wearer - plus it seems to be hinted at that the "pilot" we ultimately see may actually be a member of the Prometheus crew who has undergone some sort of "transformation"...). In short, I think this is going to end up being a bit more complicated than what could be surmised from just a few glimpses of things in the trailers.

Comparing the profile of the new SJ and the "old" SJ from Alien, there is a BIG size discrepency that can't be overlooked. I will have serious issues with this if the size difference isn't explained. So far new SJ is looking pretty small and even smaller in the chair. Even the head shape is quite different. Notice the major differences in the chair shape as well. This will have to be explained because I can't see spending all this money for such a large "error". Personally, I think the SJ in the chair will grow or morph into the size we are accostomed to. Any thoughts?

This is very simple to explain.... someone smaller is wearing the suit in the latest trailers... The free standing suits behind Shaw (previously released photos) are obviously more proportionate to the 'Space Jockey' in 'Alien' than the shot we see in the trailer.

there are a lot of differences, size, texture, the eyes are different, and the seat looks different.......... not bad necessarily but just a modern update............ i approve. i think this is a good pic of it :)

Nice comparison picture invaderzim42. The differences are quite dramatic. If the larger SJ was of a larger creature not seen yet, then okay. But if large SJ is the small dude with small suit, well, that just ain't gunna work! There has to be a missing element or explanation for this dramatic discrepancy. This won't sit well with me otherwise. That bulbous head, elongated body and bloated chair, I'm sure there's an explanation! Has to be!!

Well Giger is working with them again on this film, so maybe it was his decision to update the look. It was his creation after all. Maybe the story they created required the creature to be something more than a "big alien truck driver." Maybe there is no explanation. We will just have to wait and see.

i am going to make a new topic about it, but since we are on the subject of comparison look at the space goo stuff from trailer 1 and trailer 2. guessing it was a digital edit but to be honest i liked the transparent green better. Maybe the guy about to fly off isn't a Space Jockey, but an infected crew-member?

regardless of the outcome ive got to say i dont like the idea of a bio mechanical ship as it would suggest it has conscience an the sj isnt really in control unless he's in some way telepathicly integrated with it? I do however think that the newborn humanoid (veiny dude) "king" at the begining of the trailer is David!

True SteeVtheRipper. However, check out and compare the pattern of the back part of SJ's chair in both old and new. You'll notice the new small design has patterns to it that if the chair were to grow larger like a balloon, the chair patterns could resemble the old chair. And look at the top of the new chair where the shape behind the head is more retracted than the old chair. This means that there will be shape-shifting. I have a feeling the SJ and chair will grow when the ship becomes active. Could be a side effect from the exotic power source.

Of course! I think this might be it: Small blue dude engages with chair and the suit eventually comes off, as seen in the trailer. At some point a giant infected creature engages the chair and becomes large SJ! This could be it folks!

The trunk-like appendage probably connects to the ribcage structure when the SJ finishes blending in with the chair, but what we saw in "Alien" isn't just an overblown seat-belt, that's for sure. I think it will be left up to audience interpretation whether or not the ship is technically "alive," however, the alternative I prefer to imagine, is that the ship's array of sensors and SJ pilot's nervous system....or whatever- become fully integrated once the plugging-in process is complete. I don't think the figure standing over Rapace at the end of the trailer is an SJ........not a real one, anyway. On the other hand, if it turns out that the SJ biotech is intended to evolve a human or synthetic into an SJ, that would dovetail perfectly with the idea that Prometheus is Scott's dark take on 2001's "God was an astronaut" shtick.
