Lots of great discussions about the plot, the actors and the visuals, but what about the philosophy? Ridley Scott mentions getting inspired by the work of Erich von Danichen, who theorized that humans were created by alien civilizations. Are we the descendants of alien technologies? Are we aliens to ourselves? ALIEN was very much a Nietzschean creature - a remorseless self-replicating mechanism, existing ''beyond good and evil''. Are the Gods of Prometheus Nietzschean? And how does that relate to Shaw's Christianity? PROMETHEUS envisages a future where two multinationals battle for supremacy over depleted energy resources. How does that relate to the current political-economic climate? All fascinating questions!

dejan, I think he just used it as a jumping off point in the plot to get the movie going into space. It is logical. Regards, Rick
