Bio, Did you go back through the movie? I thought they went in the left hole. I mean not that it matters I love the gif. I know the book says they went in the first one. I'm on page 100 something with them bringing Kane back to the Nostromo. I know the books says they could see the sky through the top of the ship, so they were in the dome area and your path looks right. Regards, Rick

I guess that would be accurate. But the reason so many people believe the egg chamer is under Derelict, is that it is so vast (I know you know that, I'm just saying it for someone who might not know that). But if these guys come from, lets say a 2D universe.. maybe they know how to extend conventional legth, width, heigth.. lol.

Hey fellas, When I compare the new films display of the SJ vessel to an unused matte painting of the derelict ship from the ’79 original film, it appears that size differential between the entry ports and the whole ship is different. For me, this supports the notion that the SJ ship from the new PROMETHEUS film is a completely different, and much larger ship. Notice how the inside of the "horse shoe" begins curving inward, nearer to the entry ports...then on the newer ship? Whatta ya think? ~N

Hey everybody! I was lost without the cool stuff to read here on the forum for what seemed like an eternity! So was it the site or my connection that was all screwed up? Bio, nice picture with the route. I was wondering though, didn't they enter the derilict through a crack in the hull? Also, it seems the SJ ship is inside the temple( for lack of full info) before it takes off. Wouldn't you think that the vast caverns were part of that "temple"?
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

Hey its my old Bud Neurion. I think its an all together another ship. There is another discussion on the ship launch locations. We counted 5 temples all in a chain so that means 5 or more ships. Here's the Link check it out Rick

To me, the egg/cargo chamber in ALIEN looks too vast and curvy to just be a round room under the "cockpit", so I would speculate that area is off to the side, leading into one of the "arms".

I'm going to bet 10 bucks it's the same ship as in Alien. Who's in :-P oh and Rick, it's the middle port they go in through in the movie, in the novelization it says left but they filmed them entering the middle one

The ship in the first Alien movie can not be the same ship in the Prometheus movie. If you notice in the original film, when Kane and the others discover the space jockey, there are no evidence of sleep/cryo chambers, but in the Prometheus movie, there are four of them......all with holes in them, indicating that some type of breech has occured due to chest bursters? Has anyone else noticed that?

Alien Drone, Ya, I don't believe that the ships are the same. I also know the breech you are speaking of, but I have a hard time believing that some lifeforms can bust though that intergalactic metal..

What age groups is everyone in who: 1. Reads this forum as amusement? 2. Reads and posts on this forum as if these movies are more 'real' than the Trek genre?

ifp123, For condition number one, I think all age groups.. For 2, generally anyone who was 17 or older when the original alien came out... lol

1 we see how the ship flys arms upward. How would the eggs stay so neatly possitioned? 2 what a mess it would have made if it landed upside down

IMHO it's the same type of ship. I just don't see any glaring differences. I do way see too many similarities. Some obvious, some not so obvious.

I agree with you Biomechanic. Kane seemed to be lowered directly into the egg chamber. I've always thought that what he saw when he peered through the opening on the navigation deck was, indeed, the eggs.

I'm reading the novelization and there was no mention in the book about the jockey and the burn on the floor. In the book it says they stumble across a shaft that goes down into the darkness and this is right after they find the transmitter of the signal on the wall. I do want to point out that in the book Kane makes a comment that he is well beneath the surface of the planetoid that they are on and thus underneath the ship, leading to the egg chamber not being on the ship itself. I'm sure Ridley is going to put some of the novelization in prometheus, since he mentioned the derelict as being a "bomber" the shaft to me would be a loading/unloading tube for the spores. They did mention that they felt like they were in a cargo bay. So it gives credence to the theory.

I have been starved for 30 years for anything nearing the sci-fi quality that I saw in the first Alien movie. Dimensions? Scale? Entrances (vaginae)? Routes? Descriptions in novels? Stills of matte painting analysis? All these things I have read in this post. I am 40 years old, was born in Britain and came to the US in Dec of 81. Alien aired on the BBC airwaves during a late night spot and I must have been 9 (maybe 10), and it both dazzled made the most indelible/scarring impression on me such that I have spent the last decade in deep fascination over all things "derelict spaceship" and "space-jocky" and I'm sorry to say, the recent Aliens vs Predator installment just don't feed my ds/sj hunger (a hunger that I can sense all of us here have). Prometheus will be like Christmas to me, just as the recent Tron movie was a couple of years ago and as the Hobbit will be later on this year. My point? Be glad that we're going to receive new ds/sj data. I hope they don't give it all away. I have thrived on the mystery surrounding this race and the purpose of their craft. If Prometheus does its job right, I will gain some knowledge, but be fueled on for another 30 years with unanswered questions.

@Biomechanic: you pose an interesting theory here i feel, that there is a continuity gap in ALIEN, there is a shot of the M A S S I V E cavern that Scott didn't account for way back when, i think if in fact the eggs are stored inside the derelict, that would explain the error nice analysis Biomech!
