So I have lurking here a while and I thought I'd start a topic... It is my view that these trailers whilst not ruining the film have shown way too much.. It's like all the oppertunities to enthrall the audience has been given away.. The prometheus, The ancient star map , The funky vehicles, The pyramid thing, The big head, The cave, The ampule room, The alien ship, The jockeys chair and even the Jocky himself... The infection of crew.. The crashing Jocky ship and a lot more besides.. I mean I still can't wait to see it but I would have gone for a much more abstract trailer campaign... I feel like they have cheated people out of that feeling of the big reveal ...The unknown journey... I even worked on this film and I'm thinkin damn I wish I hadn't seen that trailer... It leaves me wondering how everyone else feels...

i dont agree, the new footage just made me have WAY more questions. plus movies can play out much different then you thought they would from watching the trailer. who knows what direction this movie will take. a great example of that is when i went to see M.nights' "the village" because they advertized it as a monster movie during olden times. needless to say i was quite pissed and wanted me 7 dollars back.

I agree a film can take many directions..... But in your example you describe how dissapointed you were .... Imagine you got to the cinema and the awesome visuals are revealed to you at the pace of the script.. Through a door and the camera pans to a massive head and then it's like woah wtf is that??? You wouldn't even know if there was a jocky ship in the movie ... Imagine the buzz you would feel as it was revealed to you... As it is you know all this stuff months before release...desensitising you to its impact.. Thats why the original alien trailers worked so well...They made you want to see the film but they told you nothing except the cast were in deep shit and the visuals were gonna be great... I'm sure the film is gonna kick ass regardless...

I agree but I can understand why the trailers show what they show. Its all about money and if not enough is shown then how much money will fox and all the other other companies loose. True there is plenty of clever people out there who only need a glimpse of the storyline to get them into the theatres but sadly this isn't enough for the cash cows to milk the great teat of finance they need to churn into the big cheesy milk wagon the call Hollywood

I think they should stop the trailers and concentrate on the Prometheus website and it's content (background stories / android advancement story / Weyland Super Genius Kid) etc...

I think there is still a lot we are not seeing. I trust Ridley 100%.

I think there's more to be had that we haven't seen yet. Ridley Scott isn't going to show all the good stuff until we get our butts in a seat to see this. I'm sure of it ;-)

Gritty.... I'm inclined to agree with you..I'm a massive fan and have been looking at all the material released and been in eager anticipation of more..but think they have given away a bit too much.. The new trailer plays like a mini movie, with a start, middle an end....I appreciate everyones point of view about misdirection..smoke & mirrors, but I don't think it's been portrayed, seems all self explanatory, and I have faith in Ridley, sure it will be amazing...just kind of feel there's not going to be any surprises.. Is that my fault for checking the updates on the forum all the time? Yes I think so!

same here, i dont think they would show their best stuff. plus i probably wouldnt even know what this movie was if it wasnt for showing the jockey ship. they have to show SOME stuff or people who arent hardcore alien fans wouldnt be interested in seeing it, i bet. the big giant head would still surprise me if it does something we dont know about. like asks for gum gum from dumb dumb. id pay to see that hehehe.

As exciting as everything looks, it's just a movie. If it sucks, it isn't the end of the world. Chances are it will be a great film and worth the money. Relax, Scott has a pretty good track record.

Film is a commercial art. Period......so I don't particularly mind the hype, it's just a natural aspect of the business. As for the trailer "spoiling" too much.........The official synopsis which was released many months ago, pretty much spilled the beans on the plot. Besides, we're very familiar with this universe, and would have a pretty good idea of what we'd be in for, even if we'd never viewed any of the trailers......still, I have very little doubt that Scott is holding back more than enough to keep the, -ahem- older, core fanbase happy.

A Scott film is much more than the visuals, it's the experience. Yes, the teasers kept the xenomorph hidden, and the program booklet had no clear shot of it either - but these days virtually everyone knows the biomechanical look so it should be advertised. Those without technology to screenshot and slowmo the teasers are only getting quick glimpses, and for me the events suggested make me ready to experience them in order. Looking forward to a great experience!

I think we were given "too much", when we caught the first glimpse of the Blue Guy.

Even though Im sure there are plenty of secrets that will only be uncovered by watching the movie, I can tell that they do give away too much. Just like gritty said, it would have been way more shocking if we dont know a few of these things, like the face or the big Jockey guy standing in front of Noomi. Are you kidding me? In todays Internet age, we can easily stop, magnify, enhance and analyze all leaked screens, so it IS giving away too much. Thats where the Period is.

I as well think they have shown just a touch more then I wouldve liked. For example the "birth" scene couldve been completely kept out as far as im concerned! Honestly i loved the IMAX 1min10sec trailer. Short, too the point, divulges no story plot or characters.... Just shows a ton of disturbing mind blowing horror sequences edited together to create f***ing spectacular taste of what Prometheus WILL be like Does anybody agree? Im sure most of you would

yea and this abundance of leakings are due to the greedy marketing execs again. theyre like "we have to make sure even the most retarded is interested in watching this, we have to show as much as possible,to attract the most ppl"

I feel like I'm learning a bit too much too. I just hope that the film will be 3 hours long - with truckloads more story than we're expecting - and all the exciting scenes we're seeing aren't just in the last 30 minutes as a teaser for a sequel. I feel pretty confident that Scott's going to give us something pretty special though :) John www.alienage11.com

I for one think they know what they're doing, even if it doesn't appear that way. I think they want to give us stuff to stew over and talk about. It's definitely making my mouth water and my chest hurt, ha. It also confirms that it will address everything I've always had questions about for the last 26 years since I first saw 'Alien', so that is reassuring. Regardless, I'm just glad that Ridley is full time captain of this ship. I remember when I first read that he wasn't going to be the director, but attached to the project in another way. That worried me, big time. He says the last 8 minutes is where we'll see "the juice", as he calls it. For me, the juice is gonna flow the second I buy my ticket. To tell the truth, the trailers make me want to stop frequenting the forum on purpose so I won't try to come to any conclusions or have any preconceived notions of what we will see. Some of the debates on the forum are absolutely ridiculous, ha, but...I can't stay away from my laptop. Obviously, the trailer hasn't hurt my expectations of being so excited to see it that I might piss my pants like a nervous chihuahua! 78 days left!
