So I have lurking here a while and I thought I'd start a topic... It is my view that these trailers whilst not ruining the film have shown way too much.. It's like all the oppertunities to enthrall the audience has been given away.. The prometheus, The ancient star map , The funky vehicles, The pyramid thing, The big head, The cave, The ampule room, The alien ship, The jockeys chair and even the Jocky himself... The infection of crew.. The crashing Jocky ship and a lot more besides.. I mean I still can't wait to see it but I would have gone for a much more abstract trailer campaign... I feel like they have cheated people out of that feeling of the big reveal ...The unknown journey... I even worked on this film and I'm thinkin damn I wish I hadn't seen that trailer... It leaves me wondering how everyone else feels...

There is always a bit of complaining about Fox execs messing things up- not implying this thread, but many have that gripe all over the place. The sad truth is that regardless how successful Mr. Scott is, his films still require financial backing from the studio. That backing comes with a price, which is the studio has some control over what is done and released and when. I'm sure RS didn't want HALF of what has been released actually released. Unfortunately, it is not his call to make. While I dislike so much being revealed already, we still know next to nothing about the story, and we still haven't seen the monster of the film- which I hope is as shocking and scary as Giger's original Alien. The execs may know exactly what they are doing, which is to generate hype to the masses. Not everyone is a fan geek like all of us here, and we alone will never give Fox a healthy return on their investment. In short, I don't like so much being revealed, but making money is the name of the game now. I'm sure I will be happy with the movie regardless.
