MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 4:21 PMJust wondering how Bishop Weyland fits into all of this or does the Alien vs Predator movie not count. After all he was the owner of the company in it was he not?

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 4:31 PMthe AvP movies were based on the comic books, and have there own cannon separate from alien and predator :D

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 4:49 PMWas just wondering how it all related. I do remember in one of the original Predator movies, there was a place where the Predator kept his prizes, like skulls.....there was an Alien one there. That was way before the Alien vs Predator movies happened.
Was also wondering, does Fox not own the rights to the movies and franchises of the Alien series, the Predator series and the Alien vs Predator, does that not make their views what is considered canon? How does that work? That's why I asked about Bishop.

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 4:51 PMYeah, don't go looking for canon in AvP.
What's amazing to me is that Prometheus appears to be a prequel, a side story, and also a reboot all in one. It's as if somebody at Fox said, "screw it, let's just forget about all that stuff and start from ground zero."

@Alien Drone
You'll roughly find two schools of thought as to what is canon:
A Just Alien is canon, because Ridley Scott was only involved in that film. As someone said in another thread, think of him as the "Mother" of the Alien universe.
B Alien and Aliens are both canon, but nothing beyond that. I think this thought comes from Ridley having praised Aliens in the past, the similar vehicles from Aliens in Prometheus - and some people just love that Queen and don't want to see her cease to exist.

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 5:16 PMXenotron: i really hope its not a reboot of the series as it wouldn't go down too well with the die -hard alien fans. Also back to Bishop in aliens did anyone think he had a sinister look about him when the cargo guy asked if he needed anything? Almost like he had same agenda as ash..

MemberTrilobiteMar-24-2012 5:35 PMIMO the films, and only the films are canon (even the bad ones) because they are the source material.

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 5:57 PMMy canon is loaded with Alien and Aliens minus Newt "Can I go now!" and plenty of humans melting into pools of matter that are the protein for the facehuggers. No Queen. There you go. All you will ever need.

But With Ridley's inclusion of the letter d to the name Weylan, this is sadly no longer possible hence the confusion over whether it is or not a prequel.

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2012 6:52 PMI hated the concept of the queen alien. Made the aliens more like bugs. I liked the original concepts that they should have held on to from O'Bannon and Schusset. The director cut of Alien has Dallas and Brett being turned into eggs that Ripley stumbles upon. The whole alien biology should be mysterious and unfamiliar. It's more scarier that way. Fear comes from what you don't understand. If the aliens are reduced to bugs then why not have Weyland industries develop a strong bug spray.
I always thought the alien eggs on the derelict were a kind "barnacle" picked up in space. The SJ realized to late they were more that it could cope with so it set the distress warning to prevent it's own race from attempting a rescue. Making the SJ's yet another victim of them.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 12:08 PMarcaneradio I agree with you on the subject of the Queen. More over as for the Alien egg morphing theory, it would push towards a more mechanical view of the Alien, with possibly nano tech set within the Alien, helping the creature to adapt it self to man environments and a greater variety of hosts, providing quickly the percentage of air needed for the host to survive, the ability to cut down non organic materials, helping the creature to grow within hours...

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 2:40 PMIn case you missed it, in Alien vs Predator, there was a scene where a magazine was lying on a table. On it was a picture of Bishop Weyland, and a headline that proclaimed him to be a breakthrough pioneer in Cybernetics. So although not considered canon, Bishop was tied to the Alien timeline by contributions that eventually ended led to David, Ash, Bishop, and Kall.
The Queen Alien is merely an adaptation to circumstance that shows how adaptable this creature is. In Alien, there were only a few people to infect, so the Xeno reproduced itself. In Aliens, there were many to infect, and running back and forth from the Bone Ship to the colony to bring eggs was impractical, so hormones or need or whatever produced a Queen. And in AvP Requiem ( yes, I LIKED IT ), the Aliens quickly overwhelmed the population with a nascent Queen that had a quicker way to reproduce due to it's DNA blend with a different species. All of this is the whim of different filmmakers, but we are seeing the morphing and adaptability shown in Prometheus, so Queens and Predaliens are not beyond the realm of possibility in this universe.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 5:00 PMIf you liked AVP: Requiem then you must also like Skyline; another gift to us from the brothers Strauss.
But to the question about Bishop Weyland: well no such character exists in Prometheus. No, the character we have is Peter Weyland. Personally, I liked Bishop Weyland as a character, and changing it was a bad judgement call -- just Ridley acting like a spoilt god, needlessly exercising the power he has. Difficult to understand when, as someone has said, he keeps the 'd' and the slogan "Building Better Worlds". Absolute power may indeed corrupt absolutely... We'll just have to wait and see.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 8:31 PMAs I said, hard to say how everything is related, we do have Fox saying make the movie and owning te rights to make the movies over the years. I know a lot of people go on about Ridley Scott as being the creator of the fist movie, but in fact he was only the director, he might be a great director, but to give him all the credit and say he is some all powerful, all knowing person because he made the first movie is kind of silly. At least that's my opinion.
I do like some aspects of all the movies, the Alien series and the Alien vs Predator series as well, not saying they were all great movies, but then again, not all of the Alien movies were great, but I did like the way the first Alien vs Predator showed Bishop Weyland as a person and how they stumbled on everything.
RS's version is his vision of Alien franchise, that's what Fox hired him for just as they hired other directors as well, so to say he is the King of all things Alien......I just don't buy it.
Just my opinion for what it's worth.

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 9:05 AMi suspected before the movie and have obviously since confirmed that avp and prometheus are not in the same universe. but it's interesting because clearly peter weyland is rich beyond imagination. so, the idea of him spending a trillion dollars to meet his maker, especially as a sort of dying wish, is not unbelievable.
however, it would stand to reason that if he were the son of bishop weyland and knowing for certain that there were things out there, he might be a significantly more compelled to find them.
rather than.. hey we're two really good archaeologists and we say there's stuff out there, soo build us a ship and let's go!
