TheNextLV426
MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 10:46 AMHi guys. I read your ideas around the plot. Here is my take. As always, don’t read if you don’t like potential spoilers.
I think the plot goes something along the lines of. The creators of the human race (and presumably 3 others since there are 4 temples) put clues in various place so when a species becomes intelligent enough and they develop space travel they will figure it out and visit them. Presumably these guys were genuinely friendly but the first species to answers the call for whatever reason they wiped out the creators. Possibly to steal their knowledge, hence the title Prometheus.
Once the creators have been killed, this species is either unhappy about not being favourites or don’t want the competition so they decide to set a trap for other species that turn up in the future.
That is trap is:
Once a new species has arrived, one of the crew is infected with some kind of virus that takes over him. The infection is designed to make him kill everyone, morphing him into a monster along the way. Once the transformation has taken place he pilots the ship full of stored face huggers back to his home world and brings about its destruction and subsequently wipes out the competition.
The SJ are not race per se, it’s just the unfortunately candidate that got infected with the virus, mutated and ultimately climbed in to the space gun suite (or whatever you want to call it) to pilot the ship back to his home world. With that in mind, the SJ seen in Alien was another unsuspecting alien race that was drawn to the planet assuming they were meeting their gods.
In Prometheus (so far) there has been a lack of eggs and instead we see the small pyramid containers. I would imagine these are how face huggers are stored on the ship before being transported to some unsuspecting home world. Having eggs lying around would be a poor choice since a face hugger would get out and wipe out the alien visitors long before one of the crew has been infected with the mutation virus.
I’m 100% sure this does not take place on LV426 but it’s highly likely that the SJ from Alien took off from here and crashed. Probably because the SJ was infected by a face hugger before he managed to complete the journey. This could be why there are eggs on the derelict as the Xeno hatched and laid eggs and either died in the crash, old age, hunger or what not.
From the screen shots its likely they will find dead aliens from the race of aliens that piloted the ship that crashed on LV426. Presumably these are the remains his crew.
In this scenario there would be no need to have Xenos running around killing as the face huggers are safely stored in the pyramids ready for transport but the film is still set in the Aliens universe while not being specifically about Xenos.
My evidence.
In the trailer the dialog says something along the lines of we think it’s an invitation to visit them, later the dialog says we were wrong so wrong. My take on this is it’s not an invitation at all, it’s a trap. But because it would make no sense to invite a species to visit you and then wipe them out when you could just wipe them out to begin with, it’s logical to assume something has happened. The Prometheus angle is another alien race stole something from the gods (and killed them) rather than humans who are more likely to be heroes.
The trailer opens with a human having some kind of black infection spreading though his body. I think this is the start of the mutation process. When complete he will get inside the SJ suite and pilot the ship to earth.
RS has said that the crew will NOT encounter the SJ that crashed on LV426. So 100% it’s not the same derelict. Also the crashed position of the ship on LV426 is totally different; it’s also a slightly different ship design.
RS said that he always thought of the crashed ship as being a bomber. It’s not likely that a friendly race would have bomber standing by to wipe out their creations, otherwise, why create them.
My 2 cents anyway

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 11:13 AMGreat ideas. I was thinking along the same lines - the SJ is a host for a genetically modified biological weapon, impregnated with an alien embryo that is targeted to adapt to the host's natural environment.
I was also thinking that the suit provides a biomechanical interface to the ship, which may itself be organic in nature. The suit could also keep the host in some form of stasis until the ship reaches its destination, where the embryo emerges and wipes out the planet. The ship on LV-426 had crashed, the embryo hatched and created the eggs that the Nostromo crew eventually found, and then died - perhaps thousands of years ago.
I like your idea that the SJs are not the villains - they are just more victims. And that opens the door to yet another mystery. The beauty of "Alien" was the mystery of the derelict and how alien it truly felt. Answering some of the questions and creating new ones along the way would be great - and would also be very "Lost"-like.
One part that I still can't quite figure out though is why the derelict in Alien would be sending out a warning signal. Who were they warning?

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 11:36 AMMy guess is the warning beacon was aimed at the creators of the Xenos (ie the as yet unknown species that wants to wipe out other intelligent races). The signal was either to tell them the ship had crashed and been over run and keep away, or the mission had failed.
The Nostromo was in the same area of space when it picked up the signal, perhaps they thought it was a distress signal from the Prometheus

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 12:07 PMDeep! Very deep. Makes total sense and is certainly a compelling story.
Oh wow! And just thought of this watching the full trailer. At the very beginning - "A King has his reign, and then he dies. It's inevitable". Possibly the original 'God(s)' that were wiped out by the first visitors? Snap!
But that would also mean that the Space Jockey's homeworld is still intact - so why didn't they send help and why would they feel threatened by other species etc?
Oh the thought process can go on and on...
Don't know, but still, very compelling.

Could be a warning to their own fleet that their ship went down on a mission or just a trap for some other sentient life form to find. Maybe all sentient lifeforms were created in the same image, hence they SJs would know that the facehugger is a "one size fits all" bioweapon...

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 2:12 PMI think this is wrong. But good idea. If you look at the trailers it paints a clear picture. But with large senarios missing. I believe some get infected hollow has sex and she gives birth to a squid like creature. Some walking to the ship holding his hands looks to be mutated in some sort. Trailer shows something squid like popping out his eye. Then he has sex with the girl who gives birith I believe this grows into something we haven't seen. The sj look to be pissed. If you look at the trailer you see them entering a chamber with 1000s of eggs or capsules. The higher beings sj or just foot solders working for the gods.mthere is a star gate opened when David opens the star galaxy and see earth. He's holding it. Prometheus has entered the chamber. Same type of since in clash of titans when Hercules steals the golden rod. Just entering the chamber causes mayhem for prometheus. The sj are builders of worlds, foot soldiers for the gods. The humans are gullible to enter and vickers no this and warns them to stay out but hollow ignors the adivce and enters the chamber whilst David is a droid and must follow to obey. The opening sense with the blue man is the part I'm not sure about. This is the end seen and ridley has pointed out. Questions questions. I believe the guy in the sj suite in the chair is human and not a sj. I believe the awaken the sj as they are asleep in the chambers and all hell breaks lose.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 7:32 PMAwesome ideas, people! They would work really well for the novelization(if there will be one), in that the concepts could be better understood. Who knows, maybe the ideas discussed here could be put into a graphic novel that would serve as a prequel to this film. All this information makes me more interested in watching this film. Go Ridley!

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 8:02 PMThe following may contain some plot spoilers but it is only my conjecture. Consider yourself forewarned! I apologize ahead of time for my stupidity. I'm not that smart.
I concur with most of this plot theory from TheNextLV426. I will add my two cents worth.
There are four (4) pyramids visible as the Prometheus comes in for a landing. I think each pyramid contains familiar artifacts that will be recognizable to the "invited" four races. In their respective pyramid, the human race finds the giant head in their image. The first alien race to figure out what they are doing there get to destroy the other three and possibly join the "Engineers" as equals. Once the other three races are destroyed a new "king" will reign free from competition, I think that each pyramid contains within it a "derelict" ship already jam packed with the means necessary to destroy the other invited races.
There appears to be four (4) stasis containers on the pilots pedestal within the derelect spaceship. Each one of these containers contain not only a Space Jockey to house the "essence" of the winning race but also a star map to the other races home planet so they can be annihilated. I believe that the derelect ship destroyed in this movie detaches itself from the "human" pyramid but is being piloted by one of the other races invited to this planet. I also believe that the original engineers are still on this planet housed in a circular spaceship that is buried underground directly outside the first pyramid. I noticed on one trailer, a scene where gigantic pieces of this circular spaceship are sliding and coming together just as the Prometheus explorers are trying to jump off before this spaceship takes off.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 12:27 PMHas it been established that the warning beacon came from the derelict? Maybe the message - 'We were wrong. We were so wrong..." from Prometheus is the source of the signal picked up by Nostromo. The only crew member to know the true nature of the signal would be Ash...

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 12:30 PMAnd the idea that the invitation is, instead, a trap for any other intelligent seeds of life that manage to evolve past its own singularity is spot-on, I think.

MemberTrilobiteMar-26-2012 12:31 PMdoubtful, as it seems that Shaw says that in a conversation, not a recording or message!

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 1:15 PMI agree, amend and extend the thoughts in this discussion. Since so many people have put forth their their plot hypothesis, the following is mine.
In the trailer, I do notice there are four (4) pyramids in a row as the Prometheus is coming in for a landing. There is also what appears to be a gigantic circle with linear markings (roads?) directly in front of the wall with the opening in front of the first pyramid. I believe that the original, circular spaceship seen in one of the trailers above the waterfall is buried undernearh the ground below this circle. On one of the trailers, there are gigantic pieces of this circular spaceship moving and meshing into place as the Prometheus explorers are jumping off.
I believe the "invitation" has been extended to several planets terraformed in the past by the engineers. Each pyramid contains artifacts that the visiting "races" will find familiar and recognizable - summerian writings, giant humanoid heads, etc. The first race to determine why they are there, get to evolve or mutate to a higher level and annihilate the other three races. I believe each pyramid contain similar engineer designed spaceships already stocked with the means (ampules) to destroy the other races. Each pilots platform within each spaceship contain at least four stasis containers that house SJ suits with star maps that will guide the mutated SJ to each of the homeworlds to be annihilated.
I believe that the "derelect" spaceship that crashes in Prometheus detaches from the top of the "human" pyramid but will be piloted by some alien from one of the other races. I believe that David the android will somehow evolve or mutate to become the SJ that pilots a second "derelict" spaceship that is eventually found crashed on LV426 later on.
I apologize profusely ahead of time for any stupidity on my part. I'm not that smart.
