There are many, many discussions centred around these mysterious beings and so there should be, I believe they are central to the whole plot. Firstly, I have hinted at more than one due to the simple fact there are four sarcophagi, it would be a wasted opportunity to just bring one to the stage. Mr Scott is cementing his reputation as the master of suspense by showing us very little in those recent trailers. We've all seen this quite breathtaking shot of the Jockey which has more than wet our appetites but there is so much more to come. Obviously due to his physical size the blue guy dons the SJ suit in order to "connect" with the "chair" and this is were it gets interesting. I believe the whole "chair" is biomechanical linked to a biomechanical ship. When the SJ connects with the ship we can see how it shrouds him with various bone-like appendages but theres more. In the above shot his arms are way too short compared with the fossilised SJ in alien. I believe he mutates in the chair so his arms fit neatly at the control grips clearly seen in this shot. A further mutation is the trunk-like appendage lengthening and connecting to something through the suit, again like the SJ in Alien. Another point of interest if you look closely in this shot there are some pastal coloured organic orbs protruding from the "screen/gun" indicating once again that the whole thing is biomechanical.
Simply cannot wait for this movie.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 3:43 PMFeh...He just THINKS he's all mysterious. Stupid space Jockey something something.
But yeah, this really is one of the most legitimately anticipated weird concept movie in a while.
Twilight...Hunger games...please.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:00 PMWe don't know if the figure "strapping in" is a genuine SJ...... or a human, or a synthetic..... an 'evolved' version of one or the other or........? Lindelof isn't known for producing straightforward narratives, so it could go in a number of different directions.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:04 PMThe SJ's are supposed to be 13ft tall, but as Ridley isn't one for overdoing the CGI, I wouldn't expect any Hobbit style shrinkage/growth visuals, more likely he'd expect us to use our imagination, or maybe they grow to be 13ft tall?

Space Jockstrap
MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:11 PMThe blue guy looks close to 13ft tall to me but his limbs are all in proportion like the suit in the still. A human body would be tiny sitting in that huge chair, definately a suited blue guy before he mutates and grow those long arms.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:16 PMI think all we can say at this point is that the human's are truly F#$Ked because each trailer we keep seeing more alien types...squid, blue man, sj, long armed freaks...I mean I doubt Ridley would show what the main alien would look like...I wonder if this will be some sort of alien war while the humans are stuck in the middle of it all

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:18 PMIve always wondered why the SJ`s arms are relaxed and by its sides. Yet theres a great hole in its ribs. Or perhaps it didnt die in agony. Perhaps it died THEN the chestburster popped out.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:19 PMIt kills me to say this but i bet the blue guy is david i was hoping for it to be Holloway because i like michael fassbender but of course i bet it won't be we do know that either way holloway isn't having the best luck in the world remember the first trailer when the guy is in pain look at his hat and you will read something that looks like holloway and i bet he will be mr. first to die

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:26 PMHaven't figured out how the writers got around the inherent space-time issues when you approach faster-than-light...maybe those ancient artifacts in the previews are future-past warnings from galaxy jumpers/space jockeys. Wow. Some kind of loopy, quantum physics logic to it. Biomech light-speed astronauts. Humanoid in the purest sense. Part human. Part android. Perfectly designed to seed our DNA into another galaxy until the atmosphere is ready. Good thing we've got those acid-blooded super troopers to clear out any predators when we arrive to populate the new planet.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:41 PMI, for one, don't believe in the theory that the Space Jockey is a mutated crew member. It just seems to take the whole thing too far. I, however, wont deny the fact that one of the crew members is going to change into something alien due to some kind of exposure but I seriously doubt it will be the SJ we see in the trailers... But I guess we will just have to wait and see.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 5:04 PMI agree with( crzygasr) too many alien types, its there to confuse the fans. , Ridley Scott knows what hes doing! and hes doing it well.l thats the purpose, to confuse the crap out of us! Not only that many complain that that trailer reveals too much, actually you got to remember were seeing clips with the total estimated combined time of about 7 minutes US /UK and the film is ..What..2+ hours long? My god for all we know E.T will be driving that derilict at the end.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 5:30 PMIt's been said before, but it may not even be the same chair. The ribbing and contours are different than the one in Alien, as is the patterning and ribbing on the walls of the chamber. Design inconsistency or purposeful?

lol at this one.
Another theory of the SJ size discussion is that one of the SJ's kiddies took the derelict for a spin...forgot to indicate and crashed into the Prometheus. Not sure what intergalactic collision insurance is these days but hell their premiums are about to go through the roof.
Yes...I am going slowly mad waiting for June....

The changes are definitely deliberate. If they wanted to, they could easily have replicated the original map-room down to every last detail.

I'm absoluteley convinced that the suited blue "Space Jockey" deliberately mutates in the "chair" in order to control the derelict and it's diabolical powers hence the elongated limbs, trunk-like connection and numerous umbilicals. Only time will tell.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 6:37 PMI think in these trailers we're seeing a few place holders for visual effects. So maybe the small SJ is just a regular actor sitting in as a place holder and/or visual reference for the finished large SJ effect. Same thing with the two different versions of a crew member being thrown, the normal sized actor standing in for the Tall Man creature effect.
Maybe whoever cut the trailers was hoping the images were moving by too fast for people to notice. Of course they would have had to forget that it's easy for anyone to freeze any frame of video.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 7:55 PMThe only problem is when you explain something too much, it takes the mystery away to a degree. I hope they give us some information but keep some mystery.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 10:35 PMSpace Jockey won't be mysteries anymore after Fox seeks to profit from the success that is Prometheus by making 4 sequels featuring the Jockey.
