nope.
and its also no coincidence that it has visual reminiscences of early cultures like egyptian IMO..
*hope NOT that this should implicate ´flying serpent´, that would be under Stargate-niveau..;)

Interesting observation. I tend to restrict my cross thinking of extraterrestrial items and human biology. But, I guess if your in keeping with Darwinism, it seems legit.
Doesn't look like a male to me. Could be Arturian ("It doesn't matter if its Arturian baby!") But, I could be wrong.
(Oops, I just let the next part of the franchise out of the bag)

I see the female genitalia when it's closed, but I'm not really seeing the male organ other than the body being snakelike, so I don't know if both are intended, just the first. High Priest was one of the first to see this before all of us, and he had explained it as cobra that looked like a "pussy", so that seems to be most people's first impression, although some have seen it to be more flower like.

Space JockstrapMay 02, 2012
If you look at the gif before the hugger opens.......the whole thing is a huge phallus

OutlanderMay 02, 2012
From a comparative anatomy standpoint, the clitoris and the penis are very similiar so to me, it does look a bit male at first, while also resembling the clitoris above the labia majora.
I think it should be called the Vulvalien, but I'll probably getted voted down.

Alien DNAMay 02, 2012
Okay, I thought you meant when it was open because the last time I looked my dick didn't have wings.

Alien DNAMay 02, 2012
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the clitoris become the penis when the fetus is in the room. The genetalia starts off female. Maybe someone here knows better than me about the facts on that.

SNAKES IN THE HEAD!!! Good reference to the Goa'uld from Stargate but this is beyond that and RickK that sells it for me it's either a close relative or a descendant of the familiar Hugger but who's to say that the forms we already know like the Facehugger, Chestburster, and Xeno are not some kind of aberration that's millions of years old and these new nasties are the next step?

GavinMay 02, 2012
No offence peeps but seeing this thing, this snake/leech/worm/eel, doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence, we have seen it way too many times before.

XenotronMay 02, 2012
Yeah, I was hoping for something a little more creative too, but I think I was expecting too much. This isn't everything, so keep that in mind.
@Alien DNA - Dude, just say "genitals"; "genitalia" sounds way too nerdy, especially when you're talking about girls.

GavinMay 02, 2012
To be honest the more we see in the trailers the less I'm impressed and the more a line from Aliens keeps entering my head...
"I've got a real bad feeling about this drop."
GrindolfMay 02, 2012
Its great how people judge a film from its trailer
I don't think these creatures from from the planet, this may be a proto hugger in the sense its a first design for it before the Engineers redesign it to immobilize you totally and implant the larger creature

Shaw's_sweet_babyMay 02, 2012
Space Jockstrap: I aggree with you that this might resemple the male and female organ. H. R. Giger was known for using sexual themes for his designs in the first Alien film. Whether this is designed by him I cannot say but if not I'm sure the other designers were willing to follow his example... If so I think this is rather genius.

GavinMay 02, 2012
I'm not judging the film from its trailer, but what little we know isn't as EPIC as Ridley keeps saying. I hope what we don't know makes up for that, but something tells me this film might divide fans even more than they already are.
BTW - Proto-Hugger, sigh

Alien DNAMay 02, 2012
Dude, genitals/ genitalia they pretty much mean the same shit. Genitals sounds more like a set of balls anyways. Thanks for the English lesson, but I'll pass. Besides we're on a forum for a Sci-Fi movie; I think the line between nerdy and not nerdy is a little bit blurry don't you think.

Shaw's_sweet_babyMay 02, 2012
By the way this creature looks like a very early version of the facehugger to me...

GavinMay 02, 2012
Not to me it don't...
1. Its white
2. no legs
3. the underside is completely different
4. the tail is segmented
5. the FH never stood on its tail
6. it attacks someones arm
...etc...etc...
artyohMay 02, 2012
@Snorkelbottom
After learning about the running time and seeing all the trailers, I've reached the conclusion that this movie is likely to skew much more closely to the original "Alien" than "2001." Having read various things Scott said during pre-production and filming, I had originally thought it would straddle the two more evenly; some horror elements within a thoughtful, provocative story.
If it's a state of the art roller-coaster ride, I suppose that's good enough, but I had thought he was going for something a bit more ambitious.

Shaw's_sweet_babyMay 02, 2012
Snorkelbottom: As I said... A VERY early version... its flaps could eventually evolve into legs as well as it could change its colors and body functions.

Space JockstrapMay 02, 2012
Ridley is a smart cookie artyoh, I think both he and Fox have shown us exactly what they want us to see. Add all the snippets together and you will clearly see we have seen little of Prometheus, I truly believe (and pray) that it will be brimming with stunning cinemaphotography, solid performances and a thought provoking plot full of surprises and horrific shocks.

Alien DNAMay 02, 2012
Do you think we're seeing a new species than the xeno or the progenitor that was being talked about a while back Snorkelbottom?
I think some parts do resemble the xeno chest burster a little, more so the facial features, the mouth in particular for me.

Kane77May 02, 2012
I think it really is designed to function cobra-like.
- it spits acid ( melting helmet)
- it ejects , better shoots out worm which gets into body.

Gem]n[May 02, 2012
I'm going with Rick on this for now ... because my take on his suggestion makes sort of sense of NOT having limbs, probably means it hasn't evolved to that stage yet because it hasn't 'encountered' a being with limbs ... i.e. 'humans' or similar ...
So once it encounters a human it then has a life cycle that would incorperate the human DNA side of humanoid traits? ... not all just a select few by mutation ... therefore the next stage hugger has finger like tentacles ... and what? a tounge like 'thingy'? ... is that feasable? ...
Oh I don't know lol ... I'm just talking to myself really ... and you lot are in the same room :) ...
artyohMay 02, 2012
If it has anything to do with the facehugger, it could actually be a more advanced iteration. If it can latch on to an another organism basically anywhere and/or slither inside any orifice in the blink of an eye, that seems to me, a more efficient and adaptable morphology, than something limted to external attachment and digits of a specific size.

silicaMay 02, 2012
Maybe this snake is a biomechanical drone that forms a part of the Engineer's body. I'm not going to guess what part. He sends it out to reconnoiter and test new arrivals.

Ash Science OfficerMay 02, 2012
this "cobrahugger" reminds me the Taça Jules Rimet...

i can see a bit of phallic shape before the creature blooms for attack.
to me, the aperture in the center looks more sphincter-like than anything
in that initial shot, it looks like a VERY lethal orchid,
i think the design of it (from what i can see so far) is really cool
and what it seems to do to whomever it attacks - - eeeeeeks....!
bowers2004May 03, 2012
I believe will be seeing all types of creatures in the film. These Space Jockys have been collecting samples of every dark and nasty creature in the universe. The Xeno's are just one creature found and brought to life like a clone, testube, or however they meddle with DNA. Yo u might not think the Snake looks scary but after hearing a sound bite of what it does to a few crew members, I think will all have a terryfying experence. Please listen and tell me how in the hell they are gonna nake this a PG13 rating.

I agree Artyoh! It seems like a more streamlined face hugger...also it's form follows function...what ever it's function is it isn't to latch onto a face and impregnate the victim with an alien embryo... Time will tell what it's true purpose is, but looks likely it's infecting people with something.
Or maybe it's just plain nasty.
Btw, it reminds me of a cute bunny when it's flaps are closed lol.

Mark CawleyMay 03, 2012
Big things start small remember
Anyway it has the ability to furl and unfurl......why?
Furled to enter an orifice like the throat........then it unfurls inside you so you cant pull it out with bringing half your stomach with it.......it seems to have its own orifice too.......does it eat? Or does it plant something?

no way i would have tried to touch that thing, but i would have done this

I would like to say that although the cobra alien is reminiscent of the facehugger that we know, it is the early stages of it. Remember that the SJs are trying to create the "Perfect Organism" as described by Ash (Alien). This lifeform had not been perfected yet.
