Weyland Corp slogan - 'Building better worlds'
Most notable achievement - artificial life/androids that resemble humans and cary on the heritage of our race.
Peter Weyland is described as being ruthlessly ambitious, with the ultimate goal of dominating society... playing God by perfecting artificial intelligence in our own image. Eventually, his descendent Bishop Weyland even creates the a.i. in his own image via the Bishop android model. It seems that one of the deepest themes to run through this storyline is that of greed and humanity's ultimate desire to reach 'god' status (via Weyland Corp's tireless efforts). Any god's crown achievement would be to create life in his own image.
The Derelict itself, representing the woman's body, is a symbol of life's origin. The telescope/canon chamber/egg field are (according to Giger's art: hieroglyphics) the belly or womb of the ship.
Are we the proud creation of the engineers as their ambition pushed them toward creating life in their own image? If so...perhaps the 'real gods' are punishing the engineers for 'stealing fire' from them (ie. messing with DNA to put themselves on a god pedestal). Each attempt the engineers make to keep their creation pure is thwarted by the introduction of xeno-morph chaos... because the 'real gods' are furious with how ambitious their own creation has become.
So who would the original 'god's' be? is this just a vicious cycle? Are the engineers now angry with humanity for trying become gods themselves via a.i.? hence the ultimate punishment is to infect humanity with xeno DNA? At the very least...this is a literary warning of becoming too ambitious....
