Temple atmosphere and decorations designed to mimic whatever species enter it?

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 12:56 PMI just wrote a long post about this topic, but it didn't show up for some reason. So, I'll make this quick. What if the temple adapts to whatever species enters it by changing the atmosphere and architecture to mimic the respective life form? For whatever reason, at some point in the film, the walls begin to change and the human sculpture and other aspects disappear? You see something like this in the preview when Shaw says the walls are changing and you can get a glimpse of it happening.
So, the temples could be traps laid all over the universe for life that becomes intelligent enough to follow the clues. This would mean that these traps could have ensnared many different forms of life, some of which may still be in the temple in some form. If that's the case, we may get only a kernel of knowledge concerning the race that built the temples in this movie. Consider Alien, the biggest questions were not even addressed. Perhaps the SJs and xenos crossed paths at one of these traps, but something far more advanced, strange, and terrifying, of which we only get a glimpse in this movie, actually engineered the traps.
Thoughts?

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 1:04 PM@ wirn..........well how many churches and temples do we have on earth? Its only fair to say that the temples could also be spread out the galaxy or even that the Promo planet has more than one.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 1:20 PMThat's a pretty good idea man. Could be the SJ race really are benign, maybe it's another, different species who have also recieved an "invitation" and just so happen to be visiting at the same time as us and we just can't seem to get along.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:00 PMI like it!! the temples are like roach motels for whatever intelligent species happens along to get stuck in them....I guess it's true, somewhere...sometime, we are all just ants. lol

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 2:12 PMGot to say an awesome speculation. I agree with this hands down. It is certainly some kind of a trap. And as you imply, maybe something much more unexpected than what they only see. Definitely, all in the trailer declare clearly..."we were so wrong"...so what remains? " if we don't stop it now...there will be no home to go back too" so...."it's not a map...it's an invitation".So they were wrong about thinking of it as an invitation. So what could be the reason for a higher inteligence to trap other species? leave them homeless? without their mother planets? So in this case the pictograms were planted for that reason in those home planets. That means that the higher intelligence had vistied these home planets. Why then didn't it destroy them then? Why let them evolve? Hmmm.....broad horizons here. The classic version: they let them evolve until as you imply they realize and answer that invitation. At this stage of evolution, they could start becoming a threat. So that would be the time for them to move in and destroy the home planet of the adequately evolved species. What still puzzles me, is why we get throughout the trailer, the feeling of genetic material mixing, alien DNA mixing with human that is? Maybe this is how the higher intelligence is going to destroy the home planet of each species. Two option here: First, they use the visitors to mimic their DNA and move to their respective home planets undetected to execute a destruction plan.Second: they don't just mimic the visitor's DNA to go undetected to their respective home planets...they use this mixed DNA to polute the entire home planet population. And now my last question: polute to just kill them? or mabye polute to trasnform each home planet resident into an alien being same as the engineers? and of course totally under control?(this, in case the mixed DNA cannot make the inhabitants of the home planets as higher beings as the engineers themshelves, but something like lower-intelligence creatures totally controlled by them due to the mixed DNA).Why didn't they just blow up the home planets from the beginning? Before the invitation?I say why bother? or ...creatures at that time would not mix well with the alien DNA if they hadn't yet gone into an advanced stage of evolution (the one that would allow them to accept and fulfill the invitation). Do they want just smart (efficient that is) slaves?Wow man. This could go on forever and not stop till we actually get to see the movie. Thanks for your inspiring thoughts. I will also post this theory indepentendly.I will be glad to hear your thoughts.

You have a great idea here. What if the temple knows something about Shaw? Or perhaps the temple is showing the guest their possible transformations if they so choose to create new life?
I can't wait to see this movie.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 5:45 PMThe question for me is why did "god"/Engineers leave us with religion and to be afraid of "god" .
Logically, if you are able to create life from nothing you cease the need for "god" or a god we can have to be afraid of. Most scientists and people in government that I know don't believe in god.
It is back to the evolution vs god question. Would intelligent life that could create man need to be believed to be a god? Or is it man who needs a god to behave and do the right thing until the animal instinct is bred out of us.
Look around at people at the next football game you attend. Many of them need god and society because they would be like animals.

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:49 PMGreat responses guys! Here's some other thoughts concerning this plot and some comments I've got rolling around in my head.
Clymene: Good questions. The question that pops into my head after reading your post is this: Relations between different life on a planet is hierarchical and the same is probably true in the universe. I think Ridley would agree with that. That being the case, if there are life forms out there that are equal in capabilities, appearance, and intelligence to our gods, what are the gods of those life forms capable of, what do they look like, how intelligent are they, and what roles do these gods play in the creation myths of the life forms that are god-like to us? Now if life in the universe truly is hierarchical well beyond our comprehension, then it doesn't stop there. Their gods may be based on actual encounters those life forms have had with flesh and blood creatures.
We may end up seeing two layers of god-like creatures in this film. Or, as I said in the original post, we may meet creatures that are god-like to us while getting a glimpse of creatures that are god-like to them.
Maybe that's the explanation behind the two types of ships, derelict and saucer.
I really have no clue though.
