I was reading about a) Weyland's comment in the new footage about how David will live forever and he (Weyland) will be dead by the time they hear the message b) thinking about the article that was posted yesterday the echoed some of my own thoughts about David fusing with the SJ technology and then attacking Shaw in the final seen of the trailers (see What is the human-sized thing attacking Shaw thread) and I thought, what a perfect way to become god-like. And what a terrifying and original concept (I can't think of any other movie that did something similar). We've all seen the super-rich and powerful character hell bent on eternal life before, but transferring consciousness to a synthetic body and then either purposefully or accidentally fusing with alien bio-mechanical technology...that would be a new one as far as I know.
It makes some sense when you consider David's fascination with the life form he finds in the temple and the apparent larger role a lot of people are convinced he will play in the story. If in fact the human-sized thing attacking Shaw in the final scene of the trailer is a bio mechanically morphed David, it makes even more sense because she would likely be trying to stop him. Finally, if that is his intention, to fuse with their technology, there's a perfectly plausible cause for Ridley to specifically mention the ill-fated nature of trying to be like the god's as one of the major warnings he took from the Prometheus myth.
These are just ideas; I'm not convinced of them. I just want to hear all of your thoughts on the subject.
