Why don't studios release two different cuts PG13 and R rating? They would make more money and the audience could choose the appropriate one to see. What are your thoughts?

Ripley Clone, that's i.q. droppin' funny! As for this topic, it's old hat now. Whether it is rated PG-13, or R this film will be outstanding. I do agree with everyone that hopes this movie remains rated R, and I hope for that as well. If Prometheus gets an R rating, it will change films in a great way! Time to take off the baby gloves!

Put simply - money. You release a PG-13 version so you can get a larger demographic to see the movie in the theatres and then you release an "unrated" edition on DVD so you can make more money off the fanboys. From everything I have seen about the marketing of this movie that is what they are doing. Ridley shot the movie he wanted and he shot the movie the studio wanted. You will get to see what the studio wanted in the theatres but you will have to buy the special edition to see Ridley's version.

Ridley has pretty much stated he is covering his ass and doing a PG-13 AND an R rated version. Currently many movies have a 3D and a 2D version, you want there to be an R Rated 3D and a PG-13 3D, with a R Rated 2D and Pg-13 Rated 2D version ? so 4 versions of the same movie out at the same time ?...Im gonna say...no sir not gonna happen He will prolly do PG-13 and on Blue Ray, UNrated Directors Cut version, pretty much how its gonna go

craigamore, I'm with you. R-rating all the way. I don't want a toned down film.

I bought the new issue of EMPIRE magazine; awesome holographic cover and great coverage of Prometheus. The cast give their perspective on the movie and Sir Ridley Scott answers all the questions you could ever ask! Definitely worth the cash: http://www.empireonline.com/magazine/

I think they should have a rating even more hard core like , R-Sociopath, you have to be legally a sociopath before you can watch the movie, ironically the sales will still be good
