I find the seats and ambience too luxurious to be on board "Prometheus"; maybe this is Vickers waiting the call in the spaceport... :)

On seeing that image I instinctively thought that too - and I also felt this would be either Earth, or Earth-side: some briefing or whatnot.
It's very interesting.
Scott is an extremely visually sophisticated man: this would either be an homage - or a declaration.

First thing that went through my mind too...It might be a space station. She also wearing kind of civilian clothes...we will see sooooooon.

Nephilim_LV426April 14, 2012
Excellent observation Centrosphere! Definitely a 2001 tribute.
Notice the deliberate choice of seat by Vickers.
Adds to her 'stiff' persona. And possibly fits her structural needs.
One of the questions in the Verizon game is 'Why does Vicker's quarters use so much power?'. Hmmmmmm
So many Davids and no Davidettes...? Makes you wonder...

That's it, I could say that shot reminded me of something, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it!
I concur that it doesn't seem to be on the Prometheus, too much luxury and those chairs would be tossed around during acceleration/deceleration.
I hope we're going to see some Earth scenes apart from the caves in Scotland before we are taken on the Prometheus.
I hope that is not just a candid shot taken in the studios lounge (too much luxury again?).
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

alteredstate.April 14, 2012
I think or speculate to be more accurate that it could be a period of waiting at weyland headquarters a debriefing of mission objectives of sorts she is i think a crew member with classified info.
Again very reminiscent of 2001

Vickers is actually sitting on the new WY-V394NTV android docking station and is getting a power shot.
guess how.
lol
NoXWordApril 14, 2012
I would apply for a position as WY-V394NTV Vickers model android docking station.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.

Kane77April 14, 2012
yeah, guess who is then sitting for 2 hours and is wondering why her batteries dont charge..

imagine how we felt watching that film back in 1968? I was 5 going on 6 an My POP took me to the premier in NYC.I remember being soooo bored. In the end as I grew older and my love and appreciation for film developed itself, I came to understand that what was in the end so great about that movie, wasn't that it was such a great movie, it was that it inspired and influenced mankind.

68 I was a terrible 2 year old i didn't see 2001 until about 77 and i loved it from the first viewing and it was a universal certificate which is weird when you think about it.Those choirs when they discover the monolith on the moon have haunted me since and are a great inspiration to my techno trance music making.

What's also very interesting about this shot, is what it communicates about Vickers.
Look at her.
She's not even sitting in a chair, although there is one there - she is perched like a bird on the edge of a footstool.
The opportunity exists to relax - but she either chooses not to, or she cannot.
I have only rarely seen someone project internal discomfort like this.
It's a beautiful piece of acting.

Got to add it looks amazing on blu ray my first purchase of that format was indeed 2001.
And on top of that it has UFOs ED STRAKER another great champion from the gerry and Sylvia Anderson stable of great tv sc fi.

Hey,
It seems a lot of guys here are from the same age cohort than me...I used to think most people here were very young. I was 6 back in 1968, but here in my country, believe it or not, "2001" was rated 18+....yes we had military rule.
The "homage" shouldn´t be a surprise, after all. Scott himself admits to be an admirer of Kubrick, as you can see at this 2008 interview about "Alien":
"But the director wanted to make his film with a modern, high-tech sheen that conflated Kubrick’s 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY with George Lucas’s STAR WARS: “Totally. Stanley’s influenced me pretty much all through my life, in everything really.
I though the first STAR WARS was absolutely brilliant,” says Scott. “2001 was an absolutely different cutting edge of science fiction. Stanley’s was somehow entirely real, and STAR WARS is a kind of rather grand, beautiful, majestic fairy story.”"
The Vicker´s still don´t seems to be a candid photo to me. It really seems to takes place on Earth. If this is true, a) or the "first minutes" shown recently are not really "first minutes" or b) we will see some sort of flashbacks. The difficulty here is, I can´t really remember of seeing much use of "flashbacks" in Scott´s filmography...

ZetaReticuliApril 14, 2012
Well spotted centro, some lovely Kubrick homage there for sure. Yes, there's an almost petulant and surly demeanour to her pose there, as though she wants to cut to the chase and get down to business without languishing and has not time for complacency.
Vickers also stands still in a corridor all stiff-like. Gulp. Theron is graceful, tall and gorgeous beyond imagining.

Ghost SolitareApril 14, 2012
She better not be waiting to be interviewed on whatever passes for television, Oprah could afford all of Weylands goodies! Got her own android assistant, medpod, cryosleep bed, woman has everything!

alteredstate.April 14, 2012
Remember the interview in iceland when someone asked will there be androids in this ridley replied there could be two. think it was comic con web link to iceland principal photography.

I just get the vibe she's fed up of working with incompetents. She's about to have her annual employee appraisal and she's gonna take heat for other people's f ups and how this reflects her failure to 'motivate and inspire ' her team.

i loved that show when i was 6-7

alteredstate.April 14, 2012
Well ncc 1701, i had no idea it was even being considered for a big screen debut but if it is that's music to my ears because i loved that show as well when i was a kid. Better than thunderbirds, Jo 90, and captin scarlett , i would put it on a par with space 1999, all from the same people though and great fun to watch as a kid.
I have ufo on dvd and it still looks great.

NCC 1701April 14, 2012

I remember ridley saying that ash's character made those funny jerking movements to losen up in alien because space travel affects the android metabolism so the fact vickers is seen doing press ups could be the same reason.
centrosphereApril 24, 2012
This changes everything:
"Perhaps the most elaborate set on the Prometheus is Vickers’ quarters, which are more akin to a plush Fifth Avenue apartment than a cabin on an interstellar vehicle. "
Probably the first scene actually takes place inside the "Prometheus", that seems to be less of a research vessel than an yacht. It seems some things don´t change in deep XXI century...........
