Is Prometheus Similar To 'The Martian Chronicles' Starring Rock Hudson?

If any of you remember but back in the 70s there was a mini series starring Rock Hudson called the Martian Chronicles. It was about going to Mars after discovering a ancient civilization and alien race that had died out eons ago but they still existed in corporeal form killing off all the astronauts. Rock finally meets one in it's martian form and he explained to Rock that they infected their civilization with their presence and had to die because the humans destroyed Earth with nuclear weapons and wanted to colonize Mars. There are some similarities to Prometheus.

you are talking about one of the most important books ever made regarding Sci fi.... of Ray Bradbury . Much better the book than the tv serie. I dont see particular ties with prometheus ( imo ! )

I do... The Martian Chronicles is a 1950 science fiction short story collection by Ray Bradbury that chronicles the colonization of Mars by humans fleeing from a troubled and eventually atomically devastated Earth, and the conflict between aboriginal Martians and the new colonists. Sounds like the same thing to me...earth is being abused by everyone on it, they go looking in space for answers or resources...we find a race of other beings on another planet...we enter into a conflict with them... seems pretty similar to me. It's just set up on a smaller scale.

Oh,my... I do remember that.I think I was 9 or 10 at the time.I think it was aired on TV in 2 or 3 parts on different days.But what I really recall is that it was just too slow pacedOf course it was dealing with profound themes.Of course that was long ago memory for me.Anyone know if I can find it on DVD?
