Is Prometheus Similar To 'The Martian Chronicles' Starring Rock Hudson?

If any of you remember but back in the 70s there was a mini series starring Rock Hudson called the Martian Chronicles. It was about going to Mars after discovering a ancient civilization and alien race that had died out eons ago but they still existed in corporeal form killing off all the astronauts. Rock finally meets one in it's martian form and he explained to Rock that they infected their civilization with their presence and had to die because the humans destroyed Earth with nuclear weapons and wanted to colonize Mars. There are some similarities to Prometheus.
