Anyone opting to see it in 2D?

Depending on which screens it plays at here, I may opt to see the 2D projection (if it's still an option). I was wondering if anyone else doesn't care or dislikes the 3D aspect of it. The simple matter is: 3D gives me a headache. I don't enjoy it. I don't like the way it forces my eyes to a certain area of the screen. Part of what I enjoy about films is taking in the ENTIRE image, having the choice to look at the background & set design & art direction if I want to. For this and other reasons, I enjoyed Avatar more on video than at the IMAX 3D, because I was able to take in the entire image without having Sam Worthington's huge fucking face forced into the center of my eyeline. I mean, imagine Alien in 3D, you want to look at all of Giger's designs in the derelict, but Tom Skeritt and John Hurt's space suits are being shoved in your face. I don't think atmosphere is enhanced by 3D. Or Harry Dean Stanton's kitty search. You think you know Stanton's face in 2D...

I'll see it in 3D first... but if I don't feel the 3D added much to the experience all subsequent viewings will likely be in 2D. And you're right, you tend to notice background details and overall composition a lot more in 2D.

3D is migraine land for me. So 2-D will be how I see it.

Only if I have no choice. I can deal with 3D, no headaches. So, I am going for the most tech, the best director, the best acting, and hopefully the best sci-fi and monster....

I usualy wait and watch at home. Prometheus will make me do an exception. So as i'll be there anyway, i'll watch it in 3D. (I read somewhere it's different and amazing the PRometheus 3d trailers). I know i'll watch it later on in 2d at home. That being said, you all really liked Avatar?

Same here with Avatar - seemed darker and the image not crisp. I initially intended seeing Prometheus in 2D but the fact that it was filmed in Red Epic system and the highly positive reviews of the preview footage has me sold. I bet it'll be much easier on the eye and more subtle and immersive than Avatar. 3D for me.

Film has done perfectly well for the last 100 years without 3D to give it "depth". Shouldn't make any difference whether you see it on imax or an iphone, a good film should always draw you in. Needless to say, I've never see a 3D film and I'm never going to.

@whtrz unless you're retired, one day you probably will. Like the Artist, he couldn't let go the SILENT BLACK AND WHITE movie, though they had done fine for many years. It needs and will improve, you'll have to go with it or stay behind. I don't have a 3D tv, i think the time is not ready yet, but it's coming never the less. Toshiba sells 3D tv without glasses now, the problem is it needs a resolution of around 3000*5000 i don't remember. Anyway The first 3D movies i've seen in 2D i was disapointed, coz it was clearly the marketing was pushed towards showing the 3D special effects, and they didn't focus on story leaving in fact a bad story. Now with that movie, thank to the trailers and what i read (i hope i'm write) The story and movie seem to be important to be good, it just happens to be shot in 3D. I so want to see this movie, i will go to theaters and watch in 3d. Ill get the bluray later on and watch in 2d. (sorry for the messy post :s)

I am glad to see and hear that other people don't like 3D. I hate it. It is over-hyped and it frustrated me that most movies come out and you are forced to watch in 3D without an option, or where i live anyway. Thus making the ticket price go up nearly an extra half. It is wrong. I like to see the whole screen at once like mentioned above not like a theme park ride see little things pop out taking away your attention from the whole picture. My wife wears glasses at home and to watch television. she has nothing but problems and she refuses to go the the cinema but has promised she will for Prometheus for my birthday. So now who do i go to the cinema with when my wife quite rightly refuses to go because she cannot wear two frigging pairs of glasses on at once.

I'm planning seeing this in 3D, then in 2D out of curiousity, then in 3D once again! Personally, I love the 3D effect overall (when filmed properly), especially for the way it gives a great sense of 'distance' and 'depth' to sets in tracking shots. And this movie has some amazing sets... I feel sorry for those that wear glasses already due to less than perfect eye-sight, and those that have a propensity for headaches from this process. I count myself lucky I have neither of those problems.

3D i guess for some is ok for short periods. But the effects may be suptile for most of the movie in which case wont strain your eyes so much. Its the action/money shot parts that will have more raw jump out of the screen 3D The Tech used in the cinema should not effect the eyes or cause headaches as much as say more active 3D solutions. for me its kinda hit and miss with 3D i have a 55" Sony 3D TV and i have seen other makes aswell and the 3D effect does not work so much for my eyes. Things dont come out that far and have more of a double image affect. Panasonic TVs seem to suit my eyes better.

I'm planning to see it in 3D first, and then in 2D a second time, unless the 3D blows my mind. I'll then have plenty of occasions to see it in 2D once the DVDs come out.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.
