chariots of the gods

I remember reading chariots of the gods 15 or so years ago now - and it's interesting that the book is free pdf to down load and the 70's movie is on YouTube to view free. If Prometheus is half as successful (by that I mean good) as we all hope it will then I guess books such as chariots of the gods may get a new set of readers.

very well noted Bazza...I agree...didn't even think of it myself though. i do think we are going to be hearing from a lot of religious fanatics though when the film comes out because I think this film challenges what we believe right now with regard to religion.

Chariots of the Gods was written by a convicted hotel sneak thief Eric von Daniken. Also everything in it was debunked by the late Carl Sagan who wasn't a convicted hotel sneak thief.

Vril What is a convicted hotel sneak thief? Please provide proof of what you say or please don't post because it will be considered trolling. Since your comment is very inflammatory. Rick

Vril - if Chariots of the Gods was debunked by the late Carl Sagan, I guess Carl would not enjoy Prometheus??

Rick I stand by every word.Check out Eric von Daniken's early life on Wikipedia. He is also a convicted fraudster and embezzler.Or simply google Eric von Daniken convictions.I'm no troll and it's only inflammatory if it were untrue.Hope this now helps you sleep tonight.

If von Daniken is out of favor, there's always the lovely pseudoscience of Graham Hancock. I personally think Carl Sagan would love many aspects of Prometheus for the purpose of intellectual stimulation and entertainment. I don’t believe, however, that he would ‘fall’ for it in a von Danikenesque swoon. :•)

Vril, Its not the content of what you said. Its the side jab you want to throw in the post like your last sentence of your last post, was trolling. "Hope this now helps you sleep tonight" That kind of crap is unneeded and absolutely NOT tolerated here. This is your first and last warning do it again and I will ban you. Regards, Rick

Bazza I don't think the late Carl Sagan would currently at this moment enjoy anything........he's six feet under. But if the great man were alive today ....who knows? He did a great series back in the early eighties called Cosmos also the author of the book Contact. Thanks man.

10,000BC had so many of Graham Hancock theme's - and it looks like and I stress looks like Prometheus has theme's from Chariots of the Gods.

Rick, You first stated that Vril was trolling/being inflammatory with regards to this comment which he posted: "Chariots of the Gods was written by a convicted hotel sneak thief Eric von Daniken. Also everything in it was debunked by the late Carl Sagan who wasn't a convicted hotel sneak thief." There wasn't anything in that post which was inflammatory, nor did it qualify as trolling. He was stating facts. It may have been slightly snarky, but no more so than plenty of other comments I've read here on this forum. Erich von Daniken WAS convicted of fraud/embezzlement and served a year in prison for it. Carl Sagan, to my knowledge, never had any legal problems of similar import. In the BBC/NOVA TV Special "The Case of the Ancient Astronauts" from 1977, Sagan lays out a very lucid and rational argument as to why Daniken's theories are neither plausible nor necessary. Vril's "hope this lets you sleep at night" line was posted only AFTER you had already accused him of being inflammatory and/or trolling. As I pointed out above, there was nothing inflammatory or trolling about Vril's comment, except perhaps insofar as it might be upsetting to people who want to believe in Daniken's theories. As you are one of the moderators here, I hope that you will exercise more impartiality and neutrality when deciding what posts and users should be banned/removed, and which ones should not. Thanks.

@Vril - What has being a "convicted hotel sneak thief" got to do with Chariots of the Gods?

John, I asked a question and asked him to show proof, making a remark out of the blue without backing up what you are saying is at the least inflammatory, definitely considered trolling (used to invoke a negative reaction from the original poster), especially when considering the context of what was originally posted. I never made a comment to him about banning him until he made an ignorant comment to me about sleeping at night. That was uncalled for and like I said previously it wont be tolerated. I am done with this conversation here. If you would like to discuss it with me further there is the PM system, please use it. Regards, Rick

Well, just in case anyone is interested in Chariots Of The Gods, I am providing a link to "In Search Of Ancient Astronauts". It is a TV special from '73 hosted by Rod Serling. It is based on Chariots Of The Gods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuu7BxRXtio Just in case.

It doesn't matter if the book was debunked or who wrote it. The movie gives it's own interpretation on the ancient astronaut theory and the creation of man, based on the sumerian creation myth and the enumah elish. We don't know what those tablets really say partly because of damage and missing parts, and because the translations are mostly based on the translators point of view (no rosetta stone and a dead language/writting), like how many americans give different interpretations when translating japanese. What i do know is that everytime someone comes up with a radical idea so called "experts" jump at the chance to crucify their beliefs if they're not the same as the already established mainstream belief. I believe in the ancient astronaut theory but I don't need a book to tell me that aliens meddled in our history, I have the bible for that. The minute i picked the bible when I was 7-8 yrs old and read it I knew that there was more to it and mind you I'm a country boy, never heard of chariots or similar books in my life and we only had 3 local channels in tv (spanish tv), so its not like I had anything influencing me in my beliefs; just a bible and some critical thinking. In fact, I was expelled from my church for asking these type of questions and saying that there was more than one god in the old testament. My mother never forgave me for getting her expelled As for von Daniken's conviction, just because he was convicted doesnt mean that you cant turn your life around. Mind though that he falsified some of his findings to promote his book and idea so he is not the best example. What is true are the tablets, and most ancient atronaut theorists base their work of those.
