This is an old one....but just how did the face hunger get through all that glass and not burn Kane's face off?

SPP, That was covered in the novelization. It burned its way through just enough to cause it to break under its grip, but personally I think it was impact damage that broke through from the way it lunged out of the egg. Regards, Rick

@Rick , so you read how it was done...in the book of the movie...and decided they were wrong and you made something up ? ... makes sense

Because its just a movie, so they dont Take everything too much calculated Out. Originally the face hugger was Hugging the whole helmet And only its tentactle pierced through the glass. But ridley found it more Scary when the face hugger is revealed After they have cut open the helmet In the movie.

Grindolf, I didn't make anything up. I just made a personal opinion, when I read the novelization and then thought back to the movie. There was no time for it to burn through and then facehug him inside the couple of seconds that it took. That's why I figured it just broke through from impact. That made more practical sense to me when I thought about how it lunged out of the egg at him. There were also differences in the novelization and the movie such as the facehugger in the book had a single huge eye on the back of it where the facehugger in the movie didn't have any eyes. Also in the book the signal came from some sort of mechanical device on the derelict but they never showed it in the movie. Regards, Rick

It seemed that the signal was coming from the SJs pilot chair console and quite possibly Dallas saw it and turned it off because if it wasn't turned off (the signal that is) then the colonists that eventually came to LV426 would have found the Derelict without the help of the communicae from Mr. SleezeHair (I forget his name, Burke?).

I've been puzzled as well about the facehugger going right through the helmet and onto Kanes face without even a digit bent back or missing its mark (not to mention the tail around the neck). I'm glad it happened the way it did because the scene where they cut the helmet off and crack open the helmet to reveal the facehugger is absolutely amazing (not to mention chilling; face-rape). We know all stages of the alien have acid for blood, but I also believe that they can willingly secrete it as seen in Alien 3 (the side of the pod and near the vent near the shaft where the first guy gets diced), HOWEVER..... The facehugger jumping/attaching to Kane couldn't have been using acid to get through that helmet because the acid would have eaten Kane's face. But if it was the impact that broke the helmet, then where is the glass. Also, you see in the helmet removal scene that the edges of the helmets glass seem melted. So, I don't know how it realistically could have happened (except that silicon might be like butter for aliens), but it looks really cool.

well we know they excrete stuff to make the hive walls and to cocoon people so maybe they have an excretion that is less acidic then the blood to get through the helmet without it melting off kanes face. or maybe they could have a specialized excretion to melt non flesh material like glass and metal. im just graspin' at straws.

You guys are insane, you read so much into everything, do you know why stuff happens in a movie ? because its PLOT related, a quote I like is from Babylon 5, some one asked one of the writes "How fast does a star fury fly ?" he said "At the Speed of Plot" Either its fast enough to get there in time or it is not fast enough to get there. It does not matter how the Alien melts the glass of a damn helmet, what matters is you have NO protection from the face hugger, it will either smash or melt its way to your face and "Rape" you. Anything else is pointless semantics

Well done, you battled an actual argument with nothing, maybe next time you will actually consider coming up with some form of rebuttal. My point is valid maybe if you disagree you can actually try thinking up why you believe filling random speculation and there by demeaning the essence of what is trying to be portrayed in the story is so important. Or you can just be children

Grindolf, Welcome to the Prometheus/Alien discussion community! All we're doing here is talking/conjecturing and, in general, trying to have some fun and past some of our spare time while this movie comes out. Some of us like to pour over details within the revealed trailer and prior movie(s) because this is all very exciting for us. Why not forgot this thread and begin contributing in some of the other threads within this community and realize that different fans have different levels of enthusiasm. Again, welcome to the community! I hope that you can contribute positively here. -abordoli

Oh Grindolf...poor, poor Grindolf.... "Well done, you battled an actual argument with nothing, maybe next time you will actually consider coming up with some form of rebuttal. My point is valid maybe if you disagree you can actually try thinking up why you believe filling random speculation and there by demeaning the essence of what is trying to be portrayed in the story is so important. Or you can just be children" Grindolf, the only child here seems to be you by virtue, (look, I made a rhyme), of the fact that for no other reason than you seem to dislike what Rick posted, you went after him and, well, the rest of us for opinions we choose to express in an open and friendly manner.......Rather than argue the point of Rick's poist, you attacked his freedom of expression in said post and then went on to belittle the community for the degree with which we discuss, in our freedom to expression, the things we so choose to express, WHICH IS THE POINT OF THE BLOODY COMMUNITY YA MOOK... ..now, where you fail to see you went wrong is in the presumption that you made any argument at all....you attacked bella for not making an argument when you never argued the merits of the point you were attacking to begin with..instead, you attacked the member over the idea...hence, bella's apt reaction..... Arguing that "stuff happens in a movie...because its PLOT related" is akin to saying a cow moos because its cow related....that's a testament to ridiculous obviousness, not an argument.... Now, we're all here to converse in as civil, intellectual and fun a manner as we can...if you can't handle that...I, among others, would be glad to show you the door....I'd rather not....I would like to thin k that you can converse with us rather than attack us...In fact, I just had a heated disagreement with Snorkelbottom today and managed to keep it civil despite the intense nature of our squabble...can you?

@abordoli , I apologies for being aggressive, its just frustrating to never find any articles on here that deal with facts, conjecture is fine but it is all I ever read and I think everyone here can possibly spend a little less time pondering if AVP is cannon or not. I love to pour over details of the trailer, I my self am trying to get screen shots in order to try and show that I believe most of the trailer is probably actually only 5 minutes of the film.

Grindolf

MemberOvomorphApr-22-2012 11:29 PM
@Craigmore, Id say I could be more civil, but...there is too much conjecture and pointless babble, if you want to show me the door do it, I don't care anymore

@Grin, Have you see the super slow-motioned version of the trailer? There is also a link to where someone analyzed the trailer frame by frame. Good stuff and I'm not afraid to go into the theatre armed with a little conjecture/hypothesis in hoped that all my wildest thoughts are exceeded. Knowing Ridley, these teasers and trailers are probably engineered to get the fanbase thinking in certain directions. I'm definitly expecting the one, two, knockout (falling out of my seat) from RS.

@Grin, I for one would rather you stay and have fun here. FUN!!!

Grindolf

MemberOvomorphApr-22-2012 11:34 PM
@Aborboli, I have the trailer downloaded I can get the screen shots fine, just Photoshopping them into what I believe is the correct order for some of the sequences, mainly the Space Jockey Taking the earth orb, making it green, placing it on the ground, chair comes out, (Goes into chair, that is conjecture as we don't see him go inside) , then we see the saucer roof open (We do know the bone ship is inside) then the ship is flying away and the Prometheus slams into it. Probably like a 5-10 min chunk of the movie is fractured and put into the trailer there

BTW, the pointless babble threads are aplenty, but, like me, you can just as easily go onto another and find a few favorite threads in which the conversation is to your liking. Eat the Meat and Spit Out the Bone as the saying goes....

I agree that the trailer give away more than the actual length of the trailer due to the fashion in which it was edited (doesn't take any imagination to fill in what happens between certain flashes). I think RSs point in doing a trailer this way ias to bombard the viewer with visceral imagery in much the same way that Event Horizon did during certain sequences. Great point and I'm glad that you've decided to stick around and "plays well with others". ;)

I believe most of us here don't like AvP mixed into our Aliens universe although the first AvP by itself was a nice ride (2nd was total excrement and I don't think too many here will disagree). Same with Predator. I loved the first one and the second one had merits as well. I just prefer my Batman and Superman to be in separate movies....LOL.

abordoli

MemberOvomorphApr-22-2012 11:52 PM
Also, realize that the reason AvP comes up a lot is because the newest generation of Alien enthusiasts have entered the franchise through that door. They're not like the bread=n=butter of this community that saw Alien, Aliens or Alien 3 in the cinema. In addition, the recent AvP game has brought a lot of interest into the Alien franchise. I loved the game, but once beaten had enough. They did a great job with the marines play-thru and it was a trip being a predator, but nothing topped running on the ceilings as an alien.
