I am currently collating a synopsis, which I will then expand into a screenplay for an Alien semi-sequel. There will be two main elements to the narrative structure... 1. The main story telling of a Weyland-Yutani R&D vessel landing on LV-426. Officially, they are there to ascertain the cause and damage caused by the destroyed Atmosphere Processor. Unofficially they are there to ascertain if the Derelict was affected, and if not to acquire the specimens they so desire. 2. Flashbacks experienced by the captain (whose identity will be revealed later on in the story) of all the key events and factors that have happened up to this point in time (2179), and factors that will have an effect on events yet to occur (Alien Resurrection). Regards point one, I will reveal that as we go along, but regards point two, maybe you all can help. I'll start things off... 1. Why the USCSS Nostromo was chosen for the mission to carry out Special Order 937. 2. The why and how of the Nostromo's science officer being replaced with Ash while the vessel is docked at Thedus. Now over to you guys...

Hence the thread Sparky, I wanna make sure I leave no stone uncovered, so to speak, thus I am asking for the help of whomever wants to assist right here!

O.K. WITH REGARDS TO #1. Why the USCSS Nostromo was chosen for the mission to carry out Special Order 937. imo and I think you know this has been my position here... "THE COMPANY" was apparently already in expansion mode and competition with Yutani and was monitoring Space...they knew the Nostromo was returning from having gathered 20,000,000 tons of Mineral Ore. Or however much it was...and that it would have to pass through or near Zeta2Reticlui. They knew of all the other BS with C.B. Weyland From The 1st AVP film because it happened so long ago. In other words they knew of the possibility of capturing a Xenomorph for their Bio-Weapons division, that such an action would give them a Major edge over their immediate competitor Yutani with regard to all matters space related. And maybe earth related too. for several reasons which I would have to insist you have your imagination run rampant with. because it is a stellar imagination. The Nostromo just happened to provide a perfect cover for their interests and at the same time it's crew was a rag tag group of "Expendables" as far as they were concerned. #2-They, we now know, knew the Derelict was On LV-426, and they Knew of the possibility that the crew might capture one {A Xeno}or become infected in which case they would have their new Bio-Weapon either way. And Just in case ASH was sent and switched to make sure and monitor that things went in that direction as much as possible and to even Murder if necessary any crew member that got in the way of it. He shows Up In Muthers Chamber while Ripley has the con for g-d's sake, it's a no brainer. Whole plot lines can be etched out on the competition between rival companies whether I like it {the very idea I came up with} or not They could have already had men in ships working on LV-223 There could be some in Yutani with evil designs themselves on the creature involving Earth not Space or other worlds but right here on Earth. I would portray Yutani as twice as evil as Weyland. Maybe they have a ship or two up their as well. The possibilities are endless. Either way I need to open a Space Dinner in That Zeta2Reticuli star system and maybe a nightclub too! LOL. Thanks for letting me take a swing at that Snorky, it's fun. How's That ?

Food for thought there Sparky, but the last thing I wanna do is spell it all out for the audience. The best stories involve the audience, not spoon feed them. If you get my meaning, but food for thought none the less. Lets do the next two in the list. BTW if I miss anything out people be sure to let me know... 3. What was the retrieval plan had the Nostromo successfully executed Special Order 937. 4. What was the cover story once the company realised the Nostromo had failed.

#3 Mixed together-->Cover Story Was To "Deny they were ever sent to LV-426". To Start with "TC" knew it had already atmospheric processors on LV-426 by the time Ripley gets to the Sulaco, 57 years after her encounter with the Xeno. They have been there for 20 years? So what happened in between...there are 37 years there to play with nudge nudge say no more. Perhaps they think the whole species is dead or cleaned form the planet but aaaah...at some point...they thought it was safe to build a community there. Or maybe the community is just a cover as well...and as suggested I will not say for what. The Base Leaders seem to refer to some "bad answers"...like "Don't ask" from "TC", but I am not sure if you would count that since it comes from the special edition cut, but in it's defense Cameron has stated that's it's "The Ride we intended you to take". Once the company had realize it failed it could always, and it did, say that the mission never existed. They denied it's existence and so that would be the route I went with..but I would expand the idea and show the history, show why they did it that way. They needed "Ripley" still but did not want her to know it. They are in a fierce competition with a rival Company and will break any ethical boundaries to gain an upper hand. C.B.W. wants aquisition and expansion not merger and regression. Bu there in lies the rub, so Does Mrs. Yutani. And Mrs. Yutani has something That Mr Weyland does not, something very very valuable in this precise situation. Suddenly there is this idea that we were presented with a Lie in Aliens...in that..."TC" knew it had to get Ripley to show Burke where and how to contain one of them but without her realizing it and doing something to stop them. They also knew through ASH perhaps that she was hell bent on stopping them the moment they realized she wouldn't let it past the ships Quarantine Protocol, ASH had to let it in. And he did. The retrieval plan now is simple...They've got a ship or ships On LV-233. get one over to LV-426 once the containment of a Xeno is confirmed and store it on LV-233..,ll Bio-Waepons creation and testing can be done there at the pre-established base. Thanks again nice to at least try to help out!

You must be guided by the concepts of 'deniability' and 'intergalactic law'. Companies can twist into many complex courses of action to satisfy their lawyers. I'm guessing 22nd Century Extra-Terrestrial IP law is complex...

Okay, heres two more... 5. In what system would Fiorina 161 exist - taking into account Earth to LV-426 took 17 days, but Earth to Fiorina 161 took (once they sped up upon realizing Ripley was incubating a Queen) ?? days (how long did it take). 6. What is the name of the Weyland-Yutani vessel in Alien 3?

I would stay clear of LV223 until we know were its located. I know Spartacus still has the dream alive but... sorry sparky. On why the company chose the Nostromo to set down there. Well, if Company astronomers were able to decode the message and determine that it was a warning, perhaps other astronomers had decoded it too. This could have lead to a government instruction that no ship was to land there or face huge financial penalties Sending the Nostromo was a convenient way to circumvent the law since the the company could deny all knowledge of it being a deliberate act. Ash was on board to make sure that the radio signal was picked up and the ship redirected. I'm sure he would have 'taken care' of any survivors

#5-To start I believe it took approximately 5 business days or 1 week. some other relevant notes.... Trip to LV-426 took the Sulaco only 3 weeks, as opposed to the 10 months it would have taken the Nostromo. Bishop says androids have behavioural inhibitors, and the old A/2 models were a bit twitchy. Ripley didn’t recognise Gateway Station. In the Aliens Special Edition the derelict has been damaged and partly buried under a lava flow, when it's discovered by the Jorden family. James Cameron has said it was due volcanic activity. (Starlog #121). I would place Fiorina 161 in The Outer Vail. Name Fiorina "Fury" 161 Region Outer Veil Suns 2 Fiorina “Fury” 161 (Fiori 16) is an uninhabited planet in the Outer Veil. Fiorina 161 experiences extreme temperatures which range between +100c in daylight to –40c at night and sustains no indigenous life besides a species of parasitic headlice. #6-Some interesting Facts found along the way... The Alien 3 Date Controversy There’s apparently some debate about when exactly the events in Alien 3 occurred. Some say shortly after the events in Aliens, in 2179, but others say some six years later in 2185. Evidence for 2179: In the ‘Aliens’ novel Hicks and Hudson mention at various points that the trip between Earth and LV-426 takes 3 weeks. Hicks also mentions that the earliest rescue would be expected after 17 days (nearly 3 weeks). Possibly a rescue ship would be faster than a troop transport, or the rescue ship could be stationed a bit closer to LV-426. The Nostromo’s flight time between LV-426 and Earth is measured in months (10 months), not years. Evidence for 2185: Newt is reportedly 12 years old in Alien 3 (ie. 6 years older than she is in Aliens). Alan Dean Foster mentions time dilation (ie. interstellar flights taking years) in the novelisations for Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3, but he is ambiguous when referring to it, never giving any definates. The Sulaco’s 3 week flight time given in the ‘Aliens’ novelisation is more than likely taken from one of James Cameron’s script drafts, rather than simply made up by Foster, and should therefore carry more weight. While overall a good film, Alien 3 was poorly explained in some areas. How did the egg get on the Sulaco? Were there two facehuggers or did one lay two eggs (one in Ripley; one in the dog)? Why is Newt now 12 years old, whereas she was only 6 years old in the previous film? It is never stated that she is 6 in the film, but it does in the script and the novelisation, and we see a recent photo of Newt as recipient of a ‘First Grade Citizenship Award’. First graders are aged anywhere from 5 – 7 years old. Definitely not 12. If Newt is now 12 years old, then it raises more questions without answers. Why has she aged 6 years when Ripley doesn’t seem to have aged at all. Bishop is still in pieces also. One doesn’t age in hypersleep, so was the Sulaco adrift for 6 years and Newt was awake all this time? Why was the Sulaco adrift? It should have reached Earth in 3 weeks. Bishop says all the data from the Sulaco is sent back to Weyland-Yutani via the network. If they’re so eager to get their mitts on an Alien, why then would they let the Sulaco drift for 6 years? Of course it’s possible that the Sulaco was drifting for 6 years, but the fact that we’re given no proof whatsoever of this happening, makes it extremely unlikely. Michael Bishop’s (aka Bishop II’s) ship the Patna arrived at Fiorina within days of the EEV crash, so either a) it came from Earth, and it’s a very fast ship, b) it was stationed somewhere close to Fiorina, or c) it was trailing the Sulaco. Either way it covered an interstellar distance in a matter of days, not months or years. Further evidence could be gleaned from Alien : Resurrection, though set some 200 years after the events on Fiorina 161, this evidence may not carry much weight. The Auriga covered a distance of 47.67 AU (about 7,131,999,000 km) in approximately 2 and a quarter hours. We don’t actually see the Auriga in hyperspace, but it’s moving at a fair old tilt as it cruises past Jupiter. At any rate if a large starship can traverse such a distance in a matter of a couple of hours, then why did it take the Sulaco 6 years to still be in deep space? Answer - It didn't. Summing up, the evidence for 2186 is very weak, while the evidence for 2179 is very strong in comparison. With the many continuity errors in Alien 3, I think this one could be explained away by saying that Clemens, Andrews and Aaron had been so long without seeing a woman, let alone a child, they were unable to accurately guage her age. This is an unconvicing way of saying that Giler and Hill had so many other problems making Alien 3, they forgot to double check their research. CONCLUSION - ALIEN 3 IS SET IN 2179 WE WERE NEVER TOLD THE NAME OF THAT SHIP SO YOU GET TO NAME IT FOR THIS PROJECT... I LIKE THIS NAME... MEGGELAN NOW CHECK THIS OUT....IN ANSWER TO HOW THE EGGS GOT ON THE SULACO When Bishop was preparing to crawl down the service tunnel to pilot the dropship down, he told Ripley that it would take (in total) approx 3 hours. Earlier in the movie, it was established that the place was going to blow up in approx 4 hours. This left Bishop an extra hour during which he could have: fetched 2 eggs and hidden them. While Ripley was rescuing Newt, Bishop could've then returned to pick up the eggs and put them in the drop ship. He'd then fly back to pick up Ripley and give some bogus story to cover up why he was late. BOOYAAAA

I've actually solved the issue of the beginning of Alien 3, but it requires an amendment made to aliens and a cut made to Alien 3. 1. Have Bishop say "4 are alive, the rest of them are dead" when they find the Facehuggers in Hadleys Hope. 2. Remove any footage showing eggs in Alien 3. Therefore all we need is a log placed on the network, encrypted of course, by Burke saying that he had ordered Bishop to store the remaining two Facehuggers onboard the dropship at the opptune moment (which turns out to be when Ripley rescues newt).

Don't underestimate the usefulness of THIS SITE as a source for research for this project. Some of the things like time, distances, dimensions, etc. (some already Q&A'd above) have been answered by a team in a collaborative manner (such as we're doing here).

Most notable is that the Derelict was affected: "All that remains of Hadley's Hope is a large crater thanks to the atmosphere processor going critical. The Ilium Range: Located approximately 20-30 km* in an easterly direction of Hadley's Hope lies an unremarkable mountain range, that has been volcanically active during the mid 22nd century. The Derelict: Just east again of the Ilium Range, on a high plateau, is a gigantic Derelict spacecraft of unknown origin, that was investigated by the crew of the USCSS Nostromo in 2122 and again by the Jorden family in 2179. Discovered on board was a fossilised Alien organism (type unknown) and thousands of Alien 'eggs'. One of these 'eggs' infected Exec Officer G.W. Kane in 2122 and another infected Russ Jorden in 2179 with xenomorph spore. The Derelict was destroyed after Hadley's Hope was obliterated in 2179." The HH explosion was going to be the size of Nebraska. This would have enveloped the derelict since it was 'Located approximately 20-30 km' away....and putting HH at the center of Nebraska this means no derelict, no eggs, and no need for the company to go back to investigate any derelict. But I do love the thread, especially the part where Bishop sneaks off to pick up two eggs (from either the queens chamber though implausible since she is taking the most direct root, but most likely from the derelict itself which wouldn't be that far to travel in his drop-ship; although they only had what 29 minutes left ("plenty of time", according to Bishop). Eggs were in only one of two places (the queen's lair and the derelict) so say he flew to the derelict, how long does it take to get there, land, get-out, enter structure through the crack Newt's dad did, grab an egg under each arm, return to ship and make it in time. Bishop must be one industrious little droid....

Snorkelbottom, 2 questions. 1. Will you be tying in AVP? 2. Will this be considered canon? LOL Sparatcus, you're referring to Charles Bishop Weyland and AVP ?!?, so it's okay as long as it's not canon? haha, LOL. Back to your thread Snorkelbottom, this sounds great. From all the knowledge of facts and trivia that you and Spartacus (along with many other other members here have) will come up with a great story. BTW don't forget to include where the hell that damn egg on the Sulaco came from, give us a definitive answer so I can quit seeing the same thread popping up. LOL

Believe me, I loved where this was going (and it still can if we omit the detail that the derelict isn't there anymore), but like you said about the writers for Alien 3 having more worries such that they didn't enough research.....so might we even in a Monday-Morning-Quarterback's-Chair quite easily if WE don't take heed and do proper research. Let's keep going, though....

@abordoli... 50km, please cite your reference. Surely if it was that close they would have discovered in the 20 years the colonists were there. If changes are made to both Aliens and Alien 3 for continuity reasons, the facehuggers come from the science lab in Hadleys Hope.
