This appears in the trailer at 1:15. I can't tell where in the timeline of the overall film this is, but it looks very 1979 to me. What I'm seeing is the front of the head and two arms of a xeno-like something. Somewhere else I’ve seen what looks like a similar set of sculpture off to the side in one of these corridors that has not collapsed like this seems to have. Am I imagining something here? Thank you. At least I know that my eye is not playing tricks on me. Feel free to lock or delete this. BTW, I did try to search for this (and clearly failed) before posting about it. I submit that only as a data point for those who may be trying to improve the features of the site's organization.

@Sparty Yes. That's very clearly a visual allusion to the xenos of 1979. I've seen that many times. But, I would expect something like that (an icon) in a temple or monument environment. It parallels a wide range of mystic, religious art... angels, demons and whatnot. The xeno head and arms from the image I posted looks very much like the ACTUAL thing (live or dead (hard to tell)) slumped over in a corner. The day those kinds of things start showing up in churches and temples and monuments here on Earth in the flesh is the day everyone stops going inside. “I’ll pray right here out on the lawn, thank you.” The presence of that kind of ‘refuse’ (?) in that environment along with the fact that there is apparently a hole in one of the sarcophagi and only one ‘surviving’ Engineer creates an atmosphere much more reminiscent of the very dark and cruel Mayan belief system than something from Sumer (for example), and for me is evocative of a very sad and desperate end-of-life situation for at least this subset (?) of the Engineer civilization. Desperations is a powerful driver of behavior (that otherwise might not manifest itself readily).

The architecture of the derelict does look very much like the xeno, always has. On the first prometheus trailer I think that the crashing derelict (when Shaw and 1 other are running away and you see it hitting the ground) looks like the xeno's mouth /jaw. Check it out and see if you agree.

Here is what I suspect is a happening after confirming what I thought when I read this at "GeeksOfDoom".. Ridley Scott had H.R. Giger create several large murals for the film, and this is no doubt one of them. Notice the design – an obvious nod to the Xenomorph. You can clearly make out the carapace, the rib cage, the pointed hips and the extremities. Shaw shines a light on the mural which then seems to move – yet another example of Giger’s biomechanical design in action. SEVERAL FOLKS...NOT JUST ONE IN THE CHAMBER...I SUSPECT THERE ARE NOT ONE BUT HALF A DOZEN OR SO OR EVEN MORE OF THAT EXACT SAME SUPPOSED MURAL SPREAD OUT ALL OVER THE CHAMBER. ANYONE TOUCHES A SEALED VIAL, AND THOSE XENOS COME RIGHT TO LIFE, AND PUNISH WHOMEVER DID AND ANYONE THEY CAN FIND THAT'S RELATED TO THEM !!! The Key is we take something, they, the Engineers are not prepared to allow anyone to TOUCH even, and when we do, those Murals come to Life with This Xenomorph Weapon/Defense system they have created for that chamber! No One, But No One, "Tangos With The Rangos", and By "The Rangos" I mean The Engineers!!! I say, everyone has got it wrong with regard to that thing, that ain't No Painting, It;s a Door to another Spectacular Ricley Scott Invisioned Horror no one could or even did imagine here !!!

ANYONE TOUCHES A SEALED VIAL, AND THOSE XENOS COME RIGHT TO LIFE, AND PUNISH WHOMEVER DID AND ANYONE THEY CAN FIND THAT'S RELATED TO THEM !!! I can’t get on board for this. It seems far to rock-’em-sock-’em for the sophistication of the horror implied in the trailer. There is no HINT even in the trailer that a live 1979 xeno is lurking around chomping on the Prometheus crew.

that's O.K. I respect your and everyone else's opinion on it, I Just see it completely differently, and listening to all the people in complete DENIAL is making me sick..."There is No Xeno" "There is No Xeno", "Thats a mutated Human", gimme a Break and get out of Denial. There are Xenos in this thing, and not just the predecessor of the one we remember from Alien. That is CLEARLY a CLASSIC Xenomorph by the way...CLEARLY, and that thing is in fact moving at one point in the trailer which means it is CLEARLY NOT PART OF A MURAL AT ALL BUT MAYBE RATHER SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE ONE WHEN A RACE OF EVIL BEINGS DOESN'T WANT YOU TO HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT !!! ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN, IF THEY TURN OUT TO BE JUST MURALS AND I AM WRONG AND I WILL BE THE FIRST TO ADMIT , BUT THEY ARE CLEARLY A WARNING NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING IN THERE IMO AND ARE THERE TO KEEP PEOPLE AWAY AND FROM EVER DOING SO !!!

I think the murals are just a clever exposition device which change to convey information/tell a story, and that they don't come "alive" and that nothing jumps out of them. So there! :D

lo, yea, like I said, I will be the first to say I was wrong...as soon as I am...and clearly that thing is moving in the trailer.

oh and by the way, I do not for the life of me think completely EVIL malevolent beings such as The Engineers just like to draw pictures like that to spice up the windows in their home decor environment folks!!! There's a Much Deeper event IMO, happening Right There.

@Spartacus: I've read your theories on the mural/xeno subject in many threads. I have stated my opinion in a few as well. I don't believe the xeno will be anywhere close to the star of the movie. I would be surprised if we saw a LIVE xeno as we know it, AT ALL in the film. Now having said that, I do recognize the murals and things that are CLEARLY xenos. I believe the murals may change and appear to move, but I would be disappointed if the mural "came to life". This is not a fantasy movie. This is a sci-fi horror loosely based on realistic theories. To have something on the wall come to life would not fit within the realm of the Alien universe, IMO of course. Could they be a warning/threat to stay the F away? Absolutely. But to jump out of the wall and come to life...to me that's just cheesy. Would I be disappointed if the xeno DOES make an appearance? No, but to appear in this manner would be disappointing to me. Hope this makes sense. I like reading your posts...good thoughts, I just disagree a little bit here.

I was just messing with you, Spartacus. Who knows? However, there are clear differences between the xeno we're all familiar with, and the figure on that ceiling. The hips are quite different, and the head is triangular in shape......it's almost certainly related in some way, but isn't exactly the same, either. Actually, if you look closely, the hip structure appears to be rather similar to the headless suit/"dead" SJ in one of the temple shots......

Just to add, I think this movie is going to knock our socks off. If it happens that they work a way for the xeno to pop out of the wall and make it work, I will be glad to poor some BBQ sauce on that crow and eat it!

gotta be honest, real honest, I like the idea a lot, but am in no way insisting this is happening, it's an educated or uneducated depending whom you ask, lol, guess, and either way I will be Happy if it turns out they are all or even just that one is/are paintings...I will humbly say how dumb of me it was to suggest it...But for me, I have to believe that they/it is not just some static Mural, that thing is too detailed to have been loved for that long {The Time It Took To Create} by beings with no intention of anything other than conquering the universe.

I wouldn't call it a dumb idea, it's just not what I would want to see. I can see your point that they would not create something without an explicit purpose. But like I said, this movie may be way above and beyond the ideas/mythology that I think it will convey (and to be clear I think it will be borderline epic in scope). If it is, and the mural is some sort of mythological/biological creation that heeds the command of the Engineers, I'm ok with that as long as they can do it right. I'm pretty open minded, but I think it's easier for this scenario to go wrong, than to go right.

great point, it is very easy to get caught up in a scene or image from any scene itself and miss how it full fills Ridley's Greater vision and go off on some tangent like I do, but ya know, the creative juices are flowing...at least that's going' on for me, and as Martha would say, "it's a good thing" ! Do we know incontrovertibly that the Engineers are inherently evil for evil’s sake? If we think of the xenomorphs as simply a weapon (or advanced perimeter defense mechanism), does that really make their creators truly evil and only evil? If my understanding of the Engineers’ big picture role in the film is correct, they are also our creators. That logic would also make all Earth scientists who experiment on mice and other animals evil, wouldn't it? The premises of this film seem more complex to me than that. At least I hope they are more complex than that. Perhaps I'm just being silly. ;•)

I think it's a very very very very safe bet at this point that they are NOT JUST EVIL...PURE AND UTTER UNRELENTING EVIL IN THE MOST HORRYFYING OF WAYS IMAGINABLE and that they created the Xenomorph as a Terra-forming, Bio-Mechanical Weapon primarily !!!

Oh, I hope they're irredeemably evil, through and through, at least, from our perspective. Either they created us for some noble/benign purpose, which would make them essentially traditional sky-daddies......really?.........or they created us solely as a means to achieve some end. Which alternative seems a logical fit for the "Alien" universe?
