Silly wabbits, the worm eggs obviously double as charged plasma emitters for a control interface.

ok, i see once again im going to have to reference another B movie to explain this scene. in "terrorvision" (1986), after an alien monster absorbs/devours most of the humans in a suburban home, a humanoid alien comes and explains that the monster was accidentally transmitted there when it was meant to be thrown away. the alien said they keep the baby creature as a lovable docile pet, but once it reaches maturity it is thrown away before it becomes a huge parasitic destructive beast. my point is, these eggs are used for the control panel and work quite well until they hatch into horrible slug monsters that attack the prometheus crew. stupid lazy space jockey didnt throw his old eggs away and buy new ones. shame on him i say!!

I think Ridley Scott has created a new origin story for the Easter Bunneh.
