ok, i see once again im going to have to reference another B movie to explain this scene. in "terrorvision" (1986), after an alien monster absorbs/devours most of the humans in a suburban home, a humanoid alien comes and explains that the monster was accidentally transmitted there when it was meant to be thrown away. the alien said they keep the baby creature as a lovable docile pet, but once it reaches maturity it is thrown away before it becomes a huge parasitic destructive beast.
