I think thats the road he is going with this.
I think he wants to concentrate on a new idea, but i dont think its a remake of the Xeno, i think the orginal Xeno will get a explanation in this movie.
But then it leaves Ridley to explore the Organism in this movie more with any sequels.
You would also have to maybe conclude that any follow on movie to this one may have no Jockeys in it, as this movie could be implying what we see are the last of their kind and the very last Jockey could meet his end at the end of this movie.
Then again depends if indeed the Cobra Organism actually creates the Jockeys?

invaderzim42,
Your totally right. You know, I don't know where I read this, but I think it was last summer. Ridley said, that this movie is the same story as Alien if the crew of the Nostromo had stayed on LV-426.

I like this idea a lot. Its like merging Alien and Aliens together as one movie (cause if the crew of the Nostromo stayed in the derelict there would've been more than one Alien) which means that Ridley Scott has been drawing on James Cameron's work (and not ignoring it) but bringing it to the next level (along with his own original ideas as well). Good artists don't struggle in competition with one another they jam off each others ideas. This is gonna be awesome!!!!

I don't know about that invaderzim42...it seems a lot more involved than simply that...

It Undoubtedly does have those connections in part but then in all honesty it would have similar Connotations to the original to a degree.

I see what you're saying, but what I mean is that it's not just a single lifeform or thing hunting them...it appears to be multiple threats and a Jockey going after them...crazy

B1-66ER,
Ya, I wish I had what Ridley said tucked away in my favorites, but I don't have it. I wish someone could validate that quote.

Remake? Well, sort of....maybe more of a mashup....Forbidden Planet, 2001, A.I., Alien. I think it's not so much a classy ripoff, but really rather a tribute to elements and themes in those films. Almost forgot....definitely Theogony is in there as well.

It seems more like a variation on the original alien script. You could almost call it a remake of a movie so edited it came out in a completely different form.
I am reading the first script of alien right now, it even takes place in 2087.
