New trailer - new direction

Im yet another very long time lurker, first time poster..... And my thoughts are this. I re-watched the first film agian at the weekend, the slightly longer directors cut on blue-ray, and i cant get over how similar the two films appear to be, especially after watching the new trailer last night on C4hd and that got me thinking, what if they are? What if the WHOLE point is that this is more a remake than a prequel? I would also like to add i think that Vickers is a synthetic, and plays the SAME role as Ash in the first film. Sent by Weyland corp to make sure any knowledge gained survives. All other crew, ships etc are expendable, even David8... Remember by the time of Alien, as science officer Ash has his own orders from mother.... What is each and every Weyland space craft had a synthetic science officer who also had a secret agenda built in JUST IN CASE they came across a certain derelict spacecraft... It explains how Alien starts and how that plot develops.... So the REAL 64,000$ question is how does Prometheus END so that Alien can carry on? Easy answer: All that can survive is some maybe limited knowledge of the events that take place in the new film, but no samples and no technology, just some knowledge..... Hence Weyland Corps ongoing search for the 'aftermath' of the new film.... That aftermath being concluded with the Nostromo's RE-discovery on LV426... Which means the temple is NOT on LV426! But the crashed spaceship is.... They had been looking all that time but never found it! And remember Prometheus was punished by the gods for giving man KNOWLEDGE. That knowledge just happened to be fire...
Oh, and I'm pretty sure that it wasn't Acheron OR LV-426 until Aliens. It was an un-named planetoid when the Nostromo landed on it. I think. I'm gonna go check that............
It comes up as Archeon on one of the nav screens in the directors cut... And NOT LV-426.... I have never noticed it before until i rewatched it last weekend...

@Cypher I didn't say he wasn't right? @abordoli I didn't say you weren't right? I was just pointing out that what you presented as if it were revelatory, from an, "EXTREMELY reliable source", seemed only to be what happened in the film that everyone saw. I was also struggling to think why you would think anyone would think it was speculation, when that was what we witnessed taking place? I couldn't quite see what your point or intention was - so thanks for explaining it...

@allinamberclad, No worries. This is just discussion. The reason I included that "this comes from an extremely reliable source; this is not speculation" was a bit overkill on my part (putting the nail in the coffin so to speak) so that we can continue the topic discussion and not go off into a tangent where the things Frantz was questioning have led into lengthy (and needless) debates before. Also, I don't care if I'm "right" or "wrong" on a sci-fi movie discussion forum. It's all about having fun discussing the topics related to the movie(s) that brought us here in the first place. I will often post stuff that is contrary to logic and what I/the-community actually knows/feels to be "right" just to make discussions a bit more interesting, but typically only concerning Prometheus. As far as the 33 year-old Alien movie is concerned, however, I will admit I'm a bit of a rigid "Alien-phobe" having read/seen a lot of novels/documentaries, etc. I, however, am not a "know-it-all" and I do research and query the vast body of knowledge out there more often than not.

this is disconforting. Why in the hell Weyland Corp would send a bunch of untrained workers to confront one of the biggest findings of all time? Because, if Weyland had the time to send Ash to replace the science officer of Nostromo (and this is curious, why would freighters need science officers?), they would have the time to send in a proper expedition. Say, something better prepared than Prometheus itself. I love the Alien universe, but it is very problematic...

Yeah, I'm up a bit too early without sleeping for too long so I'm definitely running my mouth without thinking, perhaps. I'm just so damn excited about this movie. I should have my opening night 3D IMAX tickets before the weekend for 6 people. Not sure yet whether or not to do two showings. The thing that sucks is that they're gonna make me leave and go to the back of the line for the second showing so I'll lose my "perfect seat". Then again, there are no bad seats in an IMAX theatre (although I sure don't want to test that theory out for the dough I'll be shelling out).

I think is a bit of a fact ( my opinion huh ) that the company didnt know that much about the whole deal ..its clear in Alien and even more in Aliens ( where Burke act only of his own initiative and based on Ripley's story ) . to testify that there are the 30 years between prometheus and Alien and the 57 between alien and aliens .

In truth, everything was being made up as they went along so your argument has merit, Frantz.

@ Frantz, Last week in the middle of the day and from a source who cannot reveal his/herself "For Obvious reasons" and whom has been reading all of the comments here on this forum...I received a message and it said the following... Again, This is from "someone" who is reading the forum, but can't comment for obvious reasons. "And I noticed another thing [in the post] about there being three AP stations on LV-426. Cameron originally scripted dialogue of there being “thirty or so” – not three." "1. Why the USCSS Nostromo was chosen for the mission to carry out Special Order 937. A- It was the next ship conveniently going near that area of space." "2. The why and how of the Nostromo's science officer being replaced with Ash while the vessel is docked at Thedus. A- The Company intercepted and interpreted the Jockey transmission, organised the Nostromo to get re-routed and rotated off the science officer in order to ensure a specimen of whatever they might find was returned." The revelation in #2 is that the Company, not the Nostromo, first picked up the signal from the derelict. It then made sure Ash replaced their science officer at Thedus so as to protect anything that was gathered at the site of the distress signal. The Nostromo was the closest asset (their bad luck). ------------------ Ridley then held his french press interview I think it was in which his direct statements pretty much confirmed all of this. Yesterday or the day after the claimed the big connection and secret between connecting Alien to Prometheus is..."The Company" and this is part of the 8 minute reveal/tie in at the end of the film.

I think we are seeing a reinvention of a Alien Organism and Cycle, and a movie that can explore Weyland in more depth than the other Movies which was mainly gung ho Xenos. I dont think he is trying to remake the Xeno, as i dont think he wants to damage the Alien Franchise credibility. Thus i think he will explain the events of Alien well of LV426 the Derelict, Dead Jockey and Eggs. But maybe it wont be a totally in depth explanation but just enough so that we have closure on some of the unanswered questions regarding it. As far as the Nostramo in Alien and also the events of Aliens and then no mention of LV 223 in those movies. I think maybe something would have happend to LV223 between the events of this movie and Alien. Will Ridley explain what happens to LV223 between Prometheus and Alien, in this movie or leave that to be another unanswered question that he can answer in a sequel.

@Cypher and everyone else regarding Alien and Prometheus leading directly to it. Ridley did say that the last 8 mins of the movie would explain the events of Alien well it would explain the link, so that would cover most or all of the following. (as others are answered in this movie). The Why/How/When too 1) The Derelict landed on LV426 2) The Cargo of Eggs was on that ship. 3) The Space Jockey Died. 4) The Becon was set off. Ridley said its not a direct prequel, he then said the events will explain Alien in 8 mins of the movie. To me this makes me think that the events of this movie, the interaction with the Organisms, the Space Jockeys, Shaws Baby and the Derelict will not be connected to Alien in any way whats so ever. This would explain why we wont see Xeno in this movie, and why the Derelict in Alien has no Sarcophagus. This movie seems to show a lot of Dead Jockeys, Holograms of the Jockeys interacting with something and then running for their lives. I would assume that either. 1) The Jockeys where nearlly killed off by the Xeno, and they took the remainder of the Xeno Eggs to a safe place (well that was the plan). 2) The Jockeys was at War with other Jockeys and the Derelict in Alien was either setting off from LV223 to go somewhere to unleash its Bio Weapon or indeed it was on its way to LV223 to unleash it on those Jockeys. 3) The Jockeys was at War with some other race on another world.

The Jockeys WAS not at Wars...WAS THEY, you waskily wabbit! Watch the was's Big dave:O) Prometheus is a HORROR FILM plain and simple...Alien on steroids if you will. Weyland always has been/will be interested in stealing fire aka Alien knowledge and technology. Prometheus is just a much bigger Alien Universe to explore...but it's still very much in the same tradition.
