Weyland, the Reverse Engineer

From the timeline of weyland industries he looks to have got the credit for inventing all sorts of amazing technologies, and strategically buying companies with access to space missions, energy, mining and so on.
I'm wondering if he had some kind of access to alien technology, probably during the rise of his company, that leads to the exponential flood of technologies from one company (no one company in human history has every pioneered so many technologies, doubtful one ever will).
So, am wondering if to try and keep control of the merged weyland/yutani company he has to come up with more goods, and thats all he's really going for, he wants to see every aspect of the aliens, but not much more than that. Hence why Vickers is telling holloway and shaw not to engage the aliens in any way.
It's a shame he's only getting 2mins in the movie, as his is one of the more interesting stories of all.
I think the Engineers could recognise traces of their technologies in ours (again, i don't know how weyland had access to them), and the name of the ship, prometheus, could possibly refer to technology already has been stolen from the gods, and this is what infuriates them.
It looks like Vickers is in charge of a ridiculously expensive mission (and rich people don't give/spend more than they expect in return) but doesn't want anything to do with any conversation/meeting with any Engineers, which is odd. Odd if the motive for the prometheus mission is to find the creators. But not odd at all if you want to let a creative mind see what technology the aiens have.
I'm guessing that every aspect of technology mentioned in the weyland timeline will have a parallel in the aliens technology, and weyland wants ideas from the source?
Probably all wrong but who knows (for 28days)
