Life on other planets

In Aliens - during the mess hall breakfast scene - the soldiers jokingly refer to a mission to another colony and kid one of the soldiers about "having sex" with one of the colonists/or an alien (El Turian?) on the colony who was male....
Also - during the briefing scene - none seem to surprised about encountering an alien life form....

I think alien movies are set on future plot so it is obvious that they make it look normal for humans to think about alien lifeform.
reality check: Well considering the two world wars that destroyed a lot of our ancient stuff, be it temples, underground thingies and species. I think each day we are losing the signs of panspermia and one day we'll be left with myths of religion for acceptance. remember that often rules write histories to fit their own advantage, who knows how many realities were destroyed for some political or religious agendas? If we consider life on other planets and earth being someones panspermia bitch experiment, then surely whoever done that placed some signs to connect with itself but overtime, we lost all of it, or maybe part of it.
that said, in nearby galaxies our telescopes have not found much life but habitable planets... so i doubt if we have other lifes nearby our galaxy or within our galaxy. also note the point that light takes year travel between galaxies so the image we see from telescope is past image, and if the timespan is large then what we are seeing could be life and when we reach there, may found ruins.

Yeah, El Turian Poon Tang! As i recall... Who's to say it wasn't simply a man in drag performance upon an outer-colony club type thing such as yes Pris in Blade Runner only this time it was a human and no android and they are considered 'natives' now both in heart and mind to the so called El Turian system and now they so call themselves so. He was probably talking about a human local of that particular planetary system/quadrant/etc. However, if there is evidence to the contrary that it was in reference to an ajacent life form that the humans of that time already 'know' about then it would be great speculation as to what 'they' look like and how they fit into where humans interact throughout the space systems already visited. But I hope I'm wrong and they are a 'know' alien life form seperate from 'Us Humans'.

Interesting.
To actually stay on your question:
I like to believe that they have discovered, at least, non-sentient, extra-terrestrial Life, certainly by the time of Alien and possibly around Prometheus.
To me, it suggests a certain arrogance of assumption to every action that the Company takes and everything that follows.
Also, something said in Alien has always played at the back of my mind.

I believe that mankind has already discovered alien life forms in the Alien universe, and this is because they never act extremely surprised when they are introduced to this new species.
While there are no real hints in Alien, in Aliens there's plenty of discussion
Ripley's debriefing
nobody is surprised by Ripley speaking about an alien lifeform, they are rather sceptical about THAT specific life form, so we are led to think that they know other species already
Marines banter
The already mentioned Arcturians
Gorman's briefing
The Lieutenant specifies that they might be facing an unknown lifeform, using the GENERIC term xenomorph to mean not a mineral (that's what a xenomorph is) but something of extraterrestrial origin and unknown, suggesting that there might be a whole engagement procedure when facing a "xenomorph" (that would be the lifeform equivalent of the term UFO).
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.
