MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 12:46 PMJust had a thought about the derelict in the original Alien, and what LV-426 is.
if you were an advanced civilisation would you leave your main address for an experiment that you couldn't be 100% sure about, to come and find you? Or would you send them to a remote outpost, where they can't do any major harm.
I'm thinking this may be some kind of quarantine planet they have. I'm not 100% that the original derelict ship has been there ages, as I don't buy the fossilisation line at all from Dallas, but what if the Engineer in that ship wasn't killed taking off, but knew he had been infected and quickly came back to the nearest quarantine planet, where even if the alien did burst out, it couldn't get off the planet.
Until the Nostromo arrived.
I'm wondering if thats an idea that may surface in the last 8minutes to link the two films?

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 12:55 PMnot sure what you mean by the "until" there mate. Please expand (good idea)

that is def a possiblity. I am with you with dallas's whole fossilisation line also. I have stated before in another thread that it was clear that the passengers on the Nostromo were not scienctist. That accompanied with what we dont know about the genetic make up of the creature they found leaves it feasible that the comment about being there a long time and the rhetoric about millions of years was just uneducated jargon. The film was made in 1979 folks so....I must say though from some of what we have uncovered can steer us in the right direction. the credits saying surviving engineer lets us know that something took place for him to survive. And there is a synopsis that says this engineer interacts with our human characters at some point. So that says alot and none said that there is only one ship.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 1:00 PM@Windood I think you'r onto something here.To add to that the company is more monstrous than any body could had imagine, not only they sent the Nostromo and it's crew to basically die, they settled Hadly's hope on LV-426 I think fully knowing what could happen and who knows what secret dark agenda awaits the crew of Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 1:02 PMi'm a ne'er do well lol.
Not sure how many days it is now, but tonight when i got home i really fancied watching it on dvd. Weathers too crap to go running in and i can't think of anything else to watch. Might rewatch my game of thrones boxset.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 1:09 PMsomeone had a post on here somewhere talking about the merged company and so on earlier today, made me think.
what is obvious about this film, but not on here, is that none of the speculations add up coherently. Which I like, because it means there is still lots we don't know, or small events that have a huge effect on the context of the scenes we do know about. its like being partially sighted.
Wish i could find the thread about the company now, it had some good posts.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 1:45 PM@ Windood to alaborate on that: My reason for that line of thinking it's my believe that the company would NEVER send such an expensive and well equipped expedition half way across the galaxy withou thinking on the BOTTOM LINE. They've got an agenda and sending a bunch of "kids" who BELIEVE as Fifield so eloquently put it is not the company's sole interest.
It's funny how you have to spell the word LIE in order to complete the word BELIEVE.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 1:51 PMI think i get your point now, you mean the planet is intended by the engineers as a quarantine but either the nostromo provides a way off the planet for the alien OR the weyland company later send a ship for it?
I could see either of those happening.
Interesting talk on some of the other threads about a weyland/yutani merger. there doesn't need to be one, yet. they could just as easily be involved in a joint venture for mutual gain, companies do it all the time, even apple and microsoft.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 2:41 PMI agree the derelict is not fossilized (even if i liked the idea that it was there for millions years). Particularly on this very active lv426 planet we saw in alien.
It should have been either underground or not so intact.
Besides (no connection:), how do the facehugger know their actual subjects (human) need O2? lv223 or lv426 have a very different atmosphere, which means their habitants live from that. Maybe the xeno we see in alien are adapted to humans somehow (maybe after the events we'll see in prometheus)

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 3:20 PMThe face huggers are an omni-diversant "thing" as they naturally sense by their own self regulatory 'bervous systems' if they have one ane more primal instinct to 'adapt' to the current 'host conditions' present. If they were under water awaiting a dolphin to happen by they would be so prepared. If they were upon the hostile surface of LV-426 they would equally be so prepared yet again. They have the ability to shed their outer layers of 'skin' and replace them with polarized silicon so as to cope with the external conditions currently in place there upon that world.

MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 3:22 PMI doubt they're adapted to humans, they'd be a better technology if they could use anything living as a host. we're carbon based and they're silicon, so far as we know, and they didnt have trouble with that, i doubt they need oxygen. but could be. i just think it'd weaken them as a species/threat/tool.

Id Rather Be Eatin Something Else
MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 3:23 PMThey could lay dormant for an eternity id that were so required until some hapless other life form happened by to be attacked and smothered by the latching-on face-hugger process.

MemberDeaconMay-09-2012 5:24 PMI think they try to quarantine the Xeno and take it somewhere safe and land on LV426 but i am not sure thats the target.
LV223 i think is the Engineers Outpost/Research Lab!
