@Jim100a100
This is GREAT!
Would it be too much trouble to ask for one that runs backward? They may have reversed it for the trailer.

...that one hideous strand tho...like fat worms grabbing onto one another to form something reminiscent of a strand....eeeew!

If it's the "Alien DNA" the fanboys have been waiting for, I would be disappointed if I were you.
If it's an extreme close-up of man's creation; I'd buy that.
If it's a view through an electron microscope at the creation of something; yeah, sure, whatever.

Nice shout....
Yes could be DNA forming...
I did orginally think it was a scene that shows the evolution of the first living Organisms from Microbes etc.

I bet that scene was created with Andrew Kramer's ELEMENT 3D plugin ... and the main reason I'm still waiting for it to be released officially ... :/ ...
You would have noticed his FLARES plugin in a lot of movies recently ... Star Trek, SUPER 8, etc ... talented guy ...

FLARES would not have been in Star Trek, and as SUPER 8 is an Abrams creation as well, I doubt it'd be in that film either.

(Short video on Lens Flare in Star Trek; at 1:10 there is footage of JJ and crew shining flashlights from the periphery into the lenses of their cameras to produce the flare effect. No plugin usage whatsoever.)

Oh, and back to on-topic, my guess as to what the helix portends:
I think it's probably a sample from something they discover on the alien planet, and upon microscopic investigation, they find that it can propagate itself rapidly and in effect, seed human life (cf. David, thumbing a sticky substance with his index finger, concluding "big things have small beginnings"). The crew of Prometheus will discover that whatever hostile Alien presence they encounter is actually their own progenitor, their own creator. They are some evolutionary iteration of what they fear the most.
(if interested: Aliens in Our Cells
Article on how mitochondrial DNA within us is actually an alien presence to our human physiology which we developed a permanent symbiosis with. Crazy stuff.)
Humanity is actually a weapon, akin to the xenomorph in purpose if not yet in practice, and their re-initiated contact with their origins will precipitate their further evolution into something of much more disastrous proportions.
