One thing that I love about the new generation of films, wondercon and ridley scotts new film is that the new sets will probably live on in museums of be looked after. they will be apreciated for years to come. but and its a big but!! Sir ridley has built some of the most awe inspiring structures ever put to celluloid. and here is how history treated them. some set designers wept 1. the original space jockey was put on display at Graumans theatre with the release of the film. a religious group, believing it was the work of the devil set it on fire 2. the original derelict ship was starting to stink so bad from rotten cow bones they burnt the sets 3. the mobius/cobb space suits were burnt 4. the nostromo ship was left out in the parking lot for 25years where rain rodents and age nearly destroyed it, and now it is an extensive restoration project for the propstore 5. the same thing happened to the spinner from blade runner, left in the parking lot, now in a museum thankfully 6. the Tyrell building caught fire from the enormous heat from the bulb inside 7. the blade runner hero blaster was discovered in some ones garage 25 years after it was believed lost forever my point is, ridley is the best and todays items are tomorrows antiques I wished when I was younger that I could have gotten to see some of these preserved but ridleys film sets have had some of the worst abuse I've seen for such iconic items incidentally if you want to watch the six restoration vids for alien here they are Nostromo restoration 1... Nostromo restoration 2... Nostromo restoration 3... Nostromo restoration 4... Nostromo restoration final... Alien suit restoration...

Each generation must find it's roots, but I think technology is pushing our human condition too fast and too far. We have yet to become truly wise and patient. Is our desire for more tech poisoning our path as a species?

I been alone All the years So many ways to count the tears I never change I never will I'm so afraid the way I feel Days when the rain and the sun are gone Black as night Agony's torn at my heart too long So afraid Slip and I fall and I die I been alone Always down No one cared to stay around I never change I never will I'm so afraid the way I feel Days when the rain and the sun are gone Black as night Agony's torn at my heart too long So afraid Slip and I fall and I die Written by Lindsey Buckingham.

Disagree about "The Avengers," I thought it was quite funny... although i guess that's not what everyone wanted from the movie. Not really being a huge fan of the comic book series, I was fine with it. The best acting job in the film is probably from the actress playing Black Widow (her name escapes me at the moment). Everyone else did ok to varying degrees, but it's certainly not what I would call a movie full of deep thoughts or great dialogue. It definitely feels like a comic book. But as I said, since I expected nothing more than that, I found it highly entertaining. The problem with the CGI in "Avengers" is the same as in 75 percent of all movies with CGI animation... it still looks like animation. 100% agree with the statements here about Floyd, for the most part. With regards to "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun..." the In the Flesh version is good, but Roger did a VERY cool version on the 1984/5 Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking tour - very similar to the ItF verison, but even weirder and spookier, with a really intense saxophone solo (the ItF version's strength is in the guitar solo, imo). Not sure where you can find the Pros and Cons tour verrsion it but I know there's an "unauthorized recording" (cough cough) of it floating around out there. I was at the 1985 show in NYC and I still have the funky concert shirt with the Reg/Rog dog on it. :P

It hurts so bad I cannot tell you, I was busy at the time and could not go. In the end I have also never heard THAT version of the song "Set The Controls" and I know of it, we just not get that version of the album here in Montreal and I still have never heard it. Can you hook me up somehow ???? At the time I was lying ON a beach at Lake Louise where the two big Mountains Cris Cross in Jasper, B.C. Canada reading the book "LEGION" by William Peter Blatty which later became the film the Exorcist 3. Whenever I read anything about "Amphortis" and the song "Go Fishing My Boy" would come on my "walkman", tears would come streaming down my face. Just thinking about those days brings tears to it now ! Thanks man. seriously...Thanks!

@Sparty - Let me see if I can track something down audio or video wise for it... in the meantime there are a few clips on Youtube from the tour - here's one of "The Gunner's Dream" from the '84 leg of the tour (it starts with the very tail end of "Hey You" and then goes into "Gunner's Dream." Quality of the video isn't very good but the sound isn't bad... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gA9SBDjZMY I think "Set the Controls" from this same videotape is on Youtube too, but I can't vouch for the quality. "Pros and Cons" was a pretty good show, the backdrop films and images were all classic Floyd (you could tell Scarfe did the artwork for the Pros and Cons films, too)... but friends of mine who also saw the Radio K.A.O.S. tour (I didn't get to see it) said that was actually a better tour, or so I've heard.

Great Post! I saw those restoration videos a couple of weeks ago. I cried when I saw the Nostromo peeling away after being left in a garage with nothing to protect it but a tarp. Who does that to THE Nostromo? It's a shame about all the other examples that you've mentioned although I can understand having to dispose of the smelly SJ. You know, they want to put maggots underneath the Alien carapace, but they thought it would create an even worse smell on the set. I love fishing with maggots and have even eaten some that are served in a certain cheese we ate in Italy. I hate it when they start getting hard ready to hatch into flies. Too crunchy. : (
