I know people have discussed if they would read the book before watching the film...but to date I haven't seen any information on the book itself. Any one have any? I remember reading the Star Wars prequel books first and enjoying them before becoming a non-Star Wars fan following seeing the CGI vomit which totally ruined my belief that the franchise was more than.....err....just a franchise. ANYWAY......any info on a release date? Thanks in advance.... M

I read the original Alien novelization. Like most movie adaptations, there isn't much more than expanding on the scene a little with the writers ideas of what happened. It basically supplemented the movie. For instance, I remember the Kane meets face-hugger scene. It described the face-huggers tongue/probe excreting acid to melt Kane's helmet to get inside. I can't remember much else from the book, but that was at least 25 years since I read it. The rest of the book probably parroted the movie, so my memory of the movie trumps the book reading. Still, I would be interested in reading it again. I was young when I read it and may get more out of it now. There appears to be some new copies on Amazon for $97.00 and some used ones for $0.01. Movies made from books are a bigger problem than novelizations. For instance, I read the Hunger Games before watching the movie. I thought the movie sucked compared to the books, which weren't that great anyway. It blew the whole movie experience, or maybe that movie just blew.

I just did an intensive search. Nothing put into stone yet. Just found a lot of other folks asking the same question. Keep checking back here for as soon as our scouts get word it will be posted. Suggestion: Using 'Google' search for "Prometheus-movie.com Novel". The only thing at the printers right now is this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&safe=off&gbv=2&biw=1024&bih=669&q=Prometheus-movie.com+Novel&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=15770255655100710940&sa=X&ei=3jKsT7KGKoWKsQKN7pifAg&ved=0CFgQ8wIwAA

I've made the mistake of reading books before seeing it's subject film simply because I couldn't wait. Big mistake. It just takes all of the joy and excitement out of seeing it on the big screen. I won't do that again.

I believe that for me (and we all have our fun in different ways)...I would prefer to read the book first...I love books and my mind having to visualise things. That way, when I watch the movie...I feel I have more depth and context behind the characters, places and motives in the story. And it becomes amazing watching the way those imaginary scenes unfold on the screen. Being on here is turning this two hour film into a month long event for me....I'm loving it. Ever since I was 13 and read the article in my Dads Sunday Telegraph about this upcoming movie ALIEN...I was hooked. Yes, it's only a film...but films, music, books, cartoons and sport all make us who we are...that's why it's great when you meet a girl and you start talking about films and music you like...you make connections because these things are powerful. We are all products of what we absorb and enjoy...I'm sure Prometheus will be a fantastic experience. I got my dad to smuggle me into the long gone Mercury cinema in Basingstoke as an early teen to see the X rated film (he didn't know he was smuggling me in...and I am very tall...he just gave me a stare when the "X" certificate came up on the screen and told me not to tell my mother). This time round I have a ticket for my son....he's 25 and hates scary films...but his pushy dad is making him go : ) Peace.

aww@Mithra....that's awesome you're taking your son!! Mine is are only 4 and 12 mos so that's a no to that. However, my 4 yr old loves Aliens and The Terminator so I'm totally grooming him. As far as books go, I love reading the book before seeing the movie as well. Of course, the books are generally much better as they have the time/pages to delve much further into the characters and plot. I love the challenge of visualizing what's being described...and take my time with that. It has to be perfect in my mind. And as long as the film isn't crap, which Prometheus will NOT be, I don't think I'd have a problem reconciling the book with the film. Plus, we have been given the advantage of knowing who is playing whom and not just blindly picking up a book. Which, if Sparty is correct, won't be happening for some time!
