MemberOvomorphMay-12-2012 7:04 AMI keep reading all sorts of discussions is a space jockey a race is an engineer another race. The answer is no thats the surprise they are human. We are Humans that range at avrage height 6ft they are humans that avrage height 12-15ft. They are humans ebd of discussion, not elephantine, not mutant just plain old large Humans, hence us being there creation we are called - Humans.
Engineering is a job title and Space Jockeying just means a person who rides the lightning, or rides space very efficiently. Ridley could have gone the route of the cartoon comic books (which i thought ewhere quite weird) where the engineers where actual squid like creations that needed suits because they had no arms or legs just squishy membraine bodies and mutant looking heads. But ridley has chosen not to do that , maybe it was to obvious making them another lifeform alltogether.
The Engineers are the original humans with advanced technology who brought us into being but did not give us the secrets of creation, so we go to there Tribal temple and steal it and they punish us, end of discussion.

MemberOvomorphMay-12-2012 9:25 AMWhy would humans bring more humans into being? As in engineer them not give birth to? Makes no sense to me. That'd be like a god creating more gods. If you do believe in a god then you believe god made humans not more gods. I mean, we can already clone things. I doubt Ridley considers the idea of tall humans cloning short humans interesting or complex enough to be in this film.
We may be similar but I think it's a little deeper than them just being "tall humans."

MemberOvomorphMay-12-2012 7:28 AMThe SJs are not human... The SJs are our creators which means that they have made us with some help from their technology... Sure, we probably share some of the DNA that was applied to create us but that doesn't make us the same race.
For instance humans share some DNA that is very close to that of pigs and mice but that doesn't make us pigs and mice.
There are clearly some similarities between us and the SJs but we are still not the same race. Humans have probably been made from the SJ DNA and something else's DNA.
At least that's what I think...

MemberOvomorphMay-12-2012 7:26 AMWell if our ancestors has connections with aliens (referring to panspermia) then I guess, they have more to hide from us than we hiding stuff from them. Like it or not, we are threat to them. It's like space jockeys came on earth to tamper with evolution in order to make aggressive species like xenomorphs for their own purpose. We're just failed project for them, we're not weapons sadly for them.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

MemberOvomorphMay-12-2012 7:17 AMLol. As for the 1st Humans theory it makes sense if you're thinking about lost civilizations and Ancient Giants and stuff like that.
To me they remain alien. Sure, maybe they did engineer us, but nonetheless we are humans... and they are alien engineers [relatives of ours or not].

MemberOvomorphMay-12-2012 7:08 AMthe xeno as far as i can tell must be Shaws child and a hybrid of the hammerpede that guards the temple life form urns. The film was originally titled PARADISE, it all makes sense, the 3 sleeping engineers are like God, the hammerpede is saten in the garden and everyone has been warned do not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge. So they eat the fruit and bring about Death.

I like the idea.
At least it could reconcile scientific approach and the story plot. In the i9 interview Lindeloff says he likes to keep close to science.
And we and the Engineers were the same race, only evolved differently? Maybe they are just a different human branch that evolved acceleratelly and left Earth.
OK, it´s no good. But it´s fun! ; )

MemberDeaconMay-12-2012 6:25 PMIf you look at all the cultures of ancient times many of them had the theory of Gods, and not GOD.. many also say these Gods come from the Stars.
Now look at these cultures to narrow it down look at the Sumarians, the Egyptians and Greeks and look at their Gods depictions....
Yep they look Human only about twice as tall sometimes three or more times, basically large Human looking beings who are all powerfull, hence why we was created in their image.
I think Ridley decided to use those myths to add some depth to the plot and the Space Jockey, maybe this then made him go for them looking very human.
Oh and as far as he 3 sleeping engineers, well they was before the other Engineer decided to get them Face Hugged while sleeping...

I hope to the Force that Ridley doesn't cop out like that. It would be extremely lame. And I'll demand my money back.
Why do you keep thinking that humans become the Space Jockeys and the Alien we originally saw? It's just not very scary. And it seems like lame Band Aid story telling.
