Id Rather Be Eatin Something Else
MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 6:54 AMI wonder during Hudson's tirade in Aliens about "Is this going to be a 'Stand-Up' fight (Sir) or just another 'Bug-Hunt' ?" and curious to know whether or not during this time the Colonial Mariens were involved in an Avatar-like (ethno-bio-fauna cleansing? In other words clearing the way of nusiance 'creatures' that may have been considered "in the way" of The Company's interests to colonise certain planets they have had their eyes on and were interested in.
I would like to have seen what this moment might have been like because it opens up the possiblity yet again that their have been discoveries of other alien life forms within the Alien franchise universe other-than what we already know.
Another thought, is the lice-like looking insects in Alien 3 'imports' from Earth that hitched a ride unbeknownst to anyone and began a slow, gradual colonisation/infestation of their own through-out our local part of the explored galaxy during these future times, or are they native to Fiorina Fury 101? Another alien form of biological life within the Alien universe to consider...!!!

MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 7:04 AMIt's a really fair point and is also echo'd in the conversation in the same film about "Arcturian poontang! "...talking about not knowing what sex they were..... Now it may be that this is a part of the non RS Aliens universe that RS now wants to distance from...or it could be that after the events of ALIEN (the 50 odd years between that and the events of ALIENS)

MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 9:01 AMThat's an interesting detail (concerning the "Arcturian poontang" throw-away line from Aliens) since the 'ALIEN ANTHOLOGY INQUEST PROFILES' makes a reference that a child's identity can be changed while still in the womb.
Example:
LAMBERT
Lambert's Alien Anthology profile adds nothing too much of note, aside from one thing: "Despin Convert at birth [male to female], so far no indication of suppressed traumas related to gender alteration." It seems that in the future parents-to-be can change the sex of their child in-utero. Lambert seems to have been a male for some time in the womb, before her sex was changed. Smells more like a small joke than anything that adds to the overall Alien mythos. The "so far no indication of suppressed traumas related to gender alteration" seems like a gag on Lambert's pretty famous disposition throughout the events of Alien.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 3:49 AMI've always wondered that aswell. He says this when Ripley is describing the creature (she is the only one that has seen it), so when he says "bug hunt" he couldn't possibly be talking about the xenomorph? So he must be talking about a completely different creature.

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 9:01 AMMy take on the 'Bug Hunt' comment is a double meaning. 1. Establishing that the Colonial Marines have hunted dangerous organisms on other Colony worlds. 2. James Cameron's 4th wall statement to the audience. "Is this film gonna be like Rambo or a rip off of Starship Troopers?"

MemberOvomorphMay-17-2012 2:25 PMThe Colonial Marines do indeed deal regularly with clearance of indigenous alien life-forms, not only evidenced by the exchange between the marines during their briefing, but also the nose art on Dropship 01 "Bug stomper, we endanger species".
This scene has also led to the Aliens being universally called The Xenomorphs, but Gorman uses the name as a generic name for ANY alien life form.
