Two ships/'shuttles', two similar yet seperate destinies? Like in Alien, there is an apparant similarity to the pace and tone of the resulting origin of The Derilict, suggesting that on a grander scale, what took place at the end of Alien also simmilarly befalls the SJ but is done on a monumental, biblical scale! The cat and mouse game as was the case between Ripley and the Alien. A similar type of show down perhaps took place for the Space Jockey aboard The Derilict as did for Ripley at the end of Alien and for obvious reasons we all know does not bode well for the SJ as he succumbs to the aggressive WILL of the Xenomorphs. Where-as in Ripley's case, she escapes. And so unlike Ripleys destiny throughout the Alien films is to ultimately end-up home upon Earth, the SJ's destiny takes a tragic ULTIMATE down-beat ending! With Xeno's running rampant...

Well then, if we're just shootin' the breeze, let's talk about something else while we're at it. Do you think Xenomorphs are intelligent individuals or mindless bugs?

Yes I always figured the perpetrator was something not yet seen, something worse, that must have crawled off to die. So maybe there's another corpse in the derelict? I like that better than "Space Jockey falls afoul of an egg". This gives you the feeling that Earth is an awful cute little place relative to the rest of the universe. Im already hoping for a sequel, cuz you know it's gonna spawn a whole new raft of cheap imitators.

Well, I think that they lean towards inheriting a portion of its hosts intelligence, instincts but in the same breath in that capacity is also capable of reverting to primeval/instintive impulses as well... Both 'instincts' occur simultaneously and work in tandem...Nature sort of balances its books... What about yourself Xenotron?

Going off the alien in Alien, the way the creature elegantly slides toward its victims suggests that it knows what it's doing; as if it enjoys it. It seems to know how to hide and camouflage itself with the ship and patiently sets traps–often spider-like–before it strikes. All that speaks to intelligence of a sort.

And about my thread, I mean in a back-story type thing that in this event involving the past destiny of the Derlicts plight and whatever drama played out within her happened but on a larger scale that which occured with Ripley inside the little the Narssusis.

Are you trying to be subtle here, indirectly trying to say something without actually saying it. Incinuating even? What ever you have planned, for once, don't start. Lets just talk shall we... Lets stop this Xenotron. You know I know what your suggesting here dont you....

Of course I know what you're referring to. Subtlety is my middle name. I was just carrying on a conversation since you admitted that you posted something for the sake of discussing something. Right? The topic I chose to discuss wasn't meant to insinuate anything about yourself, but I see why you may have thought that. It seems that you finished your coffee; it's the only thing good on this ship, right?

Please stay on topic! That being the topic that the "Thread Creator" started. Anymore arguing and I'll start to get angry. You won't like me when I'm angry... ; )

Ok, simple enough. This idea is present in Alien and it's actually a finer detail of the story. When Dallas, Kane, and Lambert were investigating the Derelict ship, the whole reason why that scene works is because it forebodes what's about to happen to the Nostromo later on in the movie. Foreboding is an excellent plot device. As to whether or not the conflict was as much of a conflagration as you suggest, there wouldn't appear to be any evidence of the sort. Like Lambert said "I wonder what happened to the rest of the crew?"

(Regards Abodoli, always to you Sir.) About Topic: It lead me thinking that the Nostromos shuttle was serving as a metaphor for the Derilicts 'plight'. It's just that its plight was huge! And more numerous to deal with!

@Xenotron Are you saying that there was a crew? Because I get the feeling that a Juggernaut is a one Engineer operation. That said, I can see one Engineer at the center of any type of massive calamity. Seems to be their stock in trade.

Hopefully, Ridley and Company along with upwards of a $200 million dollar budget (us$), are creative enough to come up with something other than a repeat ending. I would think so, that's why the question is largely being ignored.
