yeah. i think they cut costs and had the same Russian dude play all the characters... including the females :p

Holden_onMay 13, 2012
on a more serious note, i hope they give the Russian audience the choice of watching Prometheus with subtitles. The cast is world famous after all... but it does raise the question if the actors have regular voice-doubles for all of their work?

HeustessMay 13, 2012
Well I'm not Russian fluent, but I was surprised to find that Prometheus' French dubs are far better in tone and in the acting than the English ones, so dubbing can (and I did say can, don't watch Doctor who in French for example...) bring a quality to a film that originally it does not feature or (worse) achieve. As for this "I hope they give the Russian audience the choice of watching Prometheus with subtitles", well...

Non pas Poutine, I don't like that KGB spy, Il peut aller se faire mettre. I've heard stories from Afghan friends which didn't like that liberal SOB.
Not Poutine but juste "Branco-British" stuck in FRANCELAND.

Well for me English is 4-5th language and trust me local translation is far worst. I understand english completely, though may not express it clearly in terms of grammar online or in writing. I must say if you're in asia, it's way better to watch movie in english instead of local language. Purity of movie is preserved that way.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

Well dubbing in italya and france is top notch anyway , of course i give it a look in the original language because it have all is own feeling but really in italy and france you can watch dubbed movies and feeling it totally natural .
NoXWordMay 13, 2012
The subtitles thing is something totally cultural. As Frantz stated, when the dubbing industry is very good (and with voice actors being actually chosen by the hollywood stars themselves, for example) the movie experience can be as amazing as the original. Of course, listening the original version has a whole different feeling. But when you are used to a high standard, like French or Italian dubbing, you come to hate subtitles, as they distract you from the visuals.
Again, it's something cultural. If you're born with subtitles you stick to them. If you're not, you hate them.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.
