MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 12:32 PMI'm not sure how you got, "most certainly IS a prequel", from any of that strange double-talk I've come to expect surrounding this film....I don't feel it particularly advances what I already understood about the, "links", any further, at all...
Personally, I'm glad about it.
I'm starting to hope that one of the things that comes out of this, is that the definition of the word, "prequel", gets so badly corrupted and confusing that it loses what little meaning it had - and all of it's questionable influence.

MemberDeaconMay-14-2012 12:38 PMSo yeah his interview does not go well with that suposed leaked screening of the movie.... which i have not read but from others comments does not explain the reasons for the Eggs on the Derelict and how it got to LV 426.
I guess that interview goes with as i suspected, that the events of the Derelict that landed on LV 426 will be shown in a visual narative of a event that happened a long time before Prometheus Mission like the Water Fall/Saucer Scene that would be in the movie but not at the same time period i.e 2090 or close.
Thus that would link to Alien and explain it, but would not be a direct continuation of events from this Prometheus mission that leads to Alien and thus the scope to do a sequel to Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 12:39 PMconsider the Marvel movies we've seen lately. these all occur in the same "universe", and some of them crossover with one another every so often, and of course come together in the avengers.
i think this movie will be a "prequel" in the same sense as say captain america was a prequel to iron man.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 12:43 PMthe marvel movies, or star trek, are a great way of thinking about this. And I am super happy about that as a direct prequel like star wars tying everything together in a neat little bow is fucking horse shit.

BigDave
MemberDeaconMay-14-2012 12:44 PMIndeed and it could leave many posibilities for a sequel....
They could go a simular route to a Blade Runner Explore Weyland and Replicants, and even explain the Merger of Weyland and Yutani.
Or they could even go for a prequel to the prequel and cover the Engineers from ages ago like a Star Gate....
Or even explore other Engineers in other areas of the Galaxy, the scope for potential of a sequel is so great.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 12:57 PM@gameover man - I think your 'Marvel' comparison is the best way I've heard the originally-believed connection between the movies explained so far. But I do think some of the comments in the article are now trying to suggest the connection is stronger than that. I think it's the "...why in God's name do you think I would do that?'". I interpret this as RS trying to say "Obviously the film is a prequel (maybe not in the conventional sense), why else do you think I chose to reveal the title that way?". But I reckon that any Prometheus sequels will not likely be able to be referred to as prequels as they will deal only with the new issues raised in Prometheus. Perhaps any Prometheus sequels will happen at the same time as the events in Alien or Aliens?

Yes. I think you are right. I hope so.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 1:14 PMThere is nothing new in this snippet, it's from a much larger, far more in depth interview which was posted days ago, i think it was an Entertainment Weekly interview, should be very easy to find if someone bothers to search.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 1:35 PMHas anyone noticed how when Damon is doing an interview on camera he studies intently what effect his words are having on the person doing the interview? Almost like..." is he buying this?...do I need to elaborate more here?...can he tell I just danced on that last question?"
Whereas you get Ridley on camera, and there's a 360 in style there from Damon...both just really talking nonsense....Ridley is more fun...he says some things that truly convoluted and funny and never pauses, just keeps on going, plowing through the next statement, on and on...I really value interviews even more than the trailers for trying to assemble a picture of the film...both these guys seem to be talking in direct and specific terms...but they aren't...not at all, not by a long shot

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 1:37 PMThere's a much more detailed interview here too:

I have to say, you have just described, perfectly, what I also see.
I'd go little bit further: "Ridley", by name; Riddle-y, by nature...
Plus, (I'll probably get flamed), I don't think it's always knowingly strategic?
Sometimes, I get the feeling he'll just press on and on down some weird road or inaccurate line and that he's just enjoying his "RIdley Scott" space - Interviewers and Journalists who just shut up and listen as if his every word and assertion is pure chocolate-covered gold and no-one says anything...
In one of the Featurettes Scott was speaking at some length on about Zeta 2 Reticulli - this and that and about it is a Moon next door to Io or something: and I remember thinking, "Really?...- wait: what are you actually talking about, now?.."
There must be few Directors who get less directly challenged in that respect. I think it's funny.

Now I only care about the prequel to the prequel. Does that make me impatient?

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 2:51 PM@ Xenomorpheus - Thank you for sharing this article!
Lindelof says:
"I anticipated that, at a certain point, the fact that we weren't really openly addressing that question - or being cagey about that question - would lead to a certain degree of frustration, because that's what I would be feeling as a fan."
He stated pretty much how I felt, with regards to my frustration about this film. I am relieved that this film will tie into Alien in an exciting and unique way, and without overdoing the whole "xenomorph" bit like what has been done in the previous four 'Aliens' adaptations.

Totally agree...and you called it right...strategic.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 3:55 PMIf the film bombs (which I hope it doesn't), I wonder if he'll keep the same attitude that he was the one who made John Spaights' draft into something better. He seems a bit preachy for someone who wrote everything for LOST.
And he came up with the TED talk too? Wow. What a guy.

MemberDeaconMay-15-2012 7:46 AM I hope we get to see John Spaights draft i hope he can release his version in some kind of Book, maybe with some Art Work...
As i have never been a fan of Lindelof's work....
And what seems to had come to light over last 48 hours, this movie could well be a big disapointment.
