David Emphasis

Why is David so damned important?
On Weyland website its David this David that. Is he the next blooming God or something?

For me, David is one of the most interesting characters of Prometheus (like Vickers) and maybe Mr Weyland, Shaw an Fifield the monster, but the rest....ZzzzzzZ
And undoubtedly David plays an interesting role in this film.

When a company launches a new product, they advertise it and give it much emphasis wherever they can.
At Weyland they do the same with their brand new walking tablet with retro hairstyle.
And then there's the secondary aspect, that David is a pivotal character in Prometheus.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

Maybe they are doing the whole android looking to be human thing. Kind of like Data from STNG.
That leaked script that people think is fake has him being an Ideal human... If Vickers is also an Android she would represent humans worst.
This would be a topic the director covered before in Blade Runner.
I just think David will take a while to be killed. I expect his character will be the plot revealer.

He is the Prometheus, in my view. Its not an engineer stealing from his peers nor the humans stealing from the engineers, it's David taking from his creators what he needs to evolve, paying a terrible price...the loss of his innocence.

I agree that David will be Prometheus in the movie...and his artificial liver will be pecked out for eternity.....; )

Absolutely..he's not a good liar though....why does he cry when he talks about not feeling emotions? Because he's not supposed to experience them.
I believe it is Shaw who enables David, her faith and hope in the engineers found to be false.

Just been reading through the Weyland site again and I wonder whether there may be two David's on board? Why, well I think there may be a David 7 and a David 8... it would allow Ridley to add another dimension to the story.
I would propose that the David 8 turns bad and the David 7 saves the day? Too simple.. perhaps... but it might explain the focus on David as a character considering the 'SPOILER' we are all aware of and its impact on screen presence?!?
Ridley clearly has options with all the tech that has been released on the Weyland site... specifically the Heliades and the Lifeboat could be significant 'plot devices'.

A recent story in Forbes discussed the Prometheus myth.
Damon Lindelof said the myth revolves around the parent being afraid of the child obtaining technology that could be used to overthrow the parent.
I see the parent-child dynamic between Wayland and David. It also exists between humans and the engineers. I tend to lean on the latter since I see humans as the parent of David, and the fire (and punishment) we are concerned about centered around the Engineer's technology.
If David is Prometheus, what can he steal from humans that we have not already given him? He doesn't have a soul, so perhaps he steals that from us with the dead brain cell rejuvenation device. Still, he would need to create a threat to humans because of the technology he steals from us to fit the myth. I am not sure that will happen.

yeah its odd that the plot of this movie seems to mirror the obvious mindset of the company execs at weyland when they sat down to brainstorm the naming of the craft, and project even, that would eventually end up here.i do wish the film or ship would have been called something miles apart from each other.its a tad contrived.maybe were all wrong and the plot has nothing to do with the prometheus myth, legend after all.

In the credits it doesn't specify a number for Fassbender. It only says David.
I think there are many lines of story going on at once that tie into the Prometheus tale.

Some of the details that stood out for me in the information was how it was presented that David could do things that some humans seemed unplatable or had moral objections to. Now this could mean a lot of things, but it seemed like a suggestion that maybe David would go off on a 'bender' so to speak.
I suspect, as his growing ego had been mentioned in some interviews with Fassbender, and his view that he is superior to the human contingent in many ways, will lead him to try to tinker with the alien biotech. This could lead to many scenarios.
I think it'll be a case of the humans start the disaster ball rolling, but David will give it a massive punt downfield.
