Big infections have careless Davids.

Now we see David in the released clip messing around with the ampule, breaking the black goo juice bottle and making his stmt about beginings .
Holloways infection does seem to be totally different than mohawk guy, not as fast or as violent. It looks to me to be more of a transformation, any way, Could David be the cause of his infection, is that why we see Holloway shocked to see the creature in his eye?

How come synthetic body is going to have an infection? *beats me* It's like a rock or plastic paper having AIDS.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

Why does Holloway necessarily need help in getting infected? One of the featurettes makes it appear like he's the first moron to take his helmet off.

I read somewhere ages ago that he gets infected because he takes his helmet off - can't remember where sorry! (Have a feeling it was in fact said in an interview with the Holloway actor whose name I've also forgotten)

I can see Holloway sticking his finger right into it without thinking about it two seconds.
I just think it's illogical of David to have opened an urn back on the ship (if there are any living people around still when that happens.)

Just seems like the infections in the temple are a whole lot worse for a few of the crew than Holloway, One has a cobra hugger invade his mouth, the other has his face melted off, and Holloway seems to have concocted a slow acting form of an infection. Just a thought, seems very careless of David to bring that substance on the ship and more carless to break it open with out containment. I was just thinking that there probably should be a consequence for that decision.

If the medlab does't have biohazard provisions with an air lock which opens to the outside, then yes, it would be totally illogical. In the real world, of course, any ship designed for exploration would be so equipped.

I think the exploding head takes care of the Biohazard lock. Seems to me that the crew is looking at the head and David sneaks away to look at the ampule.

@Mostly - David is in the room when the head explodes... (Unless there is more than one David ;) )

... this whole crew is like a "bad horror movie." "Hey everyone, lets run into a completely alien environment, take our helmets off, stick our fingers in everything sticky substance, touch every button in the place, try and pet all the firkin wildlife, and finally piss off the owners... I think I nailed it!

One of the older feature trailer shows Holloway moving to touch the top of one of the urns that has some movement- much like the one David is seen looking at closely. He (Holloway) appears to be away from the rest of the group, and their focus is on something else. I think he knows he has been at least exposed to something, but decides to keep it a secret- knowing he could be isolated from the rest of the crew if they know.

@artyoh — thoroughly valid point
@patch — Yes. I think you did.
@aintnozeno — Yes. That's SOOOOO Holloway. (aka 'Douchey')

@artyoh ...
Looking at the ship schematic at least one wall of BOTH MedLabs back out to the thrust mechanics ... i.e. outside ... so that is a possiblity ...

@patch
Yes. Bless them. Bless them everyone.
Without them we'd have to be doing out homework, or taxes, or cleaning the bathroom...

hmmm... this is the way I'll go with it:
There is a part of a trailler where you'll see the black goo flowing on the ground. My bet is that the goo is released unintentionally [maybe as an antibody wich atacks the intruding organism], and all goes from there.
As for David messing around with the goo in the ampules [the same goo flowing] I doubt he will deliberatly or unintentionally infect anyone.
But you made a valid point there, I'll say.
