Lovecraft's Shoggoths: they appear like amoebic, protoplasmic black tar (black liquid, anyone?), then create limbs and other projections at will. Later they are often depicted as monsters bristling with tentacles (Cuddles anyone?). So it's probably that they are used in Prometheus, only changed inasmuch they produce entire creatures, rather than merely limbs, at will. In that case, it is the black liquid-Shoggoth that killed off the Engineers.

It is possible that resembles a shoggoth but otherwise we can not see the whole creature, perhaps have toothed jaws and acidic blood. who knows... and by the way this picture looks interesting

Ron Cobb's original Alien design before HG Giger was (luckily) brought in: Add a few tentacles... now does it look familiar?

Its hard to figure out because he does not look burnt in the other scenes... Unless its just how that image looks... If you look close enough to when he throws Shaw look at the back ground comming from the ceiling i can make out tentacle comming down or going up can anyone else see this...?

Whatever cuddles is, that does NOT look like what Holloway was turning into. Maybe their coital collision isn't what spawned this.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Wow! Looks like Del Toro was right on the money. Doing "At the Mountains of Madness" would be redundant, at this point.

How about this? She gives birth to the creature, hunts it round the ship and eventually traps it in the airlock (where we see it's tentacle bash against the viewport). There is stays for much of the film until... The engineer comes on board, attacks Shaw, she leads it to where she trapped the creature in the airlock and opens the door where it attacks the engineer. (where the creature is looks like an airlock type door).

Shaw cuts its tentacles with that axe... Blood gets all over SJ/Engineer/Holloway melts it a bit SJ/Engineer/Holloway picks up Shaw and pushes her out of harms way (indicative of it being Holloway protecting his partner)

I know the Alien getting bigger really fast is a plot device, but I had the same question with the original Alien. What energy source are these critters using to get so big, so fast? The bio-nerd in me won't let that go of that. In the real world, a concentrated energy source must be readily available, but these guys must have some other food source besides snacking on crew members.

they are parasitic, maybe they get so fast from microbes and bacteria?

WOW, This theory is pretty good IMHO (I know, are lighting torches and wielding the sticks LOL) But independent that the last spoiler is fake the idea is very interesting. Besides this idea would explain perfectly the DNA factor. and will remain an independent film (only a few winks)

The first Alien was ''Jaws in space'', Prometheus looks likes ''20,000 Leagues Under The Sea''. Tentacled mind-wringing cheese-cake type monsters ?

I'll say the same when I first saw the cobra facehugger ( well throat hugger perhaps), I am not in love with it, but I'll wait to see the context and the whole scene in order to give my opinion. What I have always asked about hollywood sci fi, is why do we always end up with tentacled, crablegged, spiderlike or piranha mouth monsters????? I mean I don't want to invent the wheel again ( can it be possible anyway ), however just recap some alien monster movies or series...........the thing, species, falling skies, super 8, cloverfield, etc.

Very cool. Mind you, "monsters" like this tend to not be all that scary.. at least for me. I'm glad the screen is cut off so all we see are the arms. I wonder what the body will look like!

wow people i just had a very interesting thought...what if the Engineers are Not the ones in charge, what if the Creature{s} Created the Space Jockeys & Mankind !!! That thing looks like it's body when full grown may be about 15 feet or so taller than the Jockeys! I know it is really unlikely but I soooooooooo like this idea !!! IT would take everyone by surprise!!!

I think these Engineers may have been trying to contain this creature for centuries and mistakenly one of the crew unleash it. Then the crew and Engineers alike are forced to fight for their lives against this Alien. Dare I say it, perhaps the Alien we see "morphing" on the wall is an attempt to stop this new breed of Alien? There 'could' be 4 different types of Alien in this! I think the use of the Alien from "ALIEN" as a weapon by the Engineers is a fantastic theory - one that could be rehashed for Prometheus for sure. I just updated our Aliens in prometheus article recently about some of these theories. In brief mind you. But wouldn't it be fascinating if the Engineers summon the "ALIEN" (from Alien) to defend against this new, parasitic breed? OR perhaps they summon the ALIEN (though not what we're used to) and then the parasite it is sent to attack somehow mixes with the defender Alien and creates the new Alien which we know today. So many theories your mind could go nuts thinking of them all. *All great ideas for a Prometheus sequel mind you. I have faith the Aliens we see in prometheus will do their job in scaring the living sh*t out of us. No doubt. PS. Great addition of the GIF Mentos, cheers to AvPGalaxy for the image! It's crisp and clear, love it.

@BugHunter Glad you like it! I think that is definitely a possibility. When Ridley has talked about the egg cargo in the derelict on LV426 (as part of the special features on the 2003 Quadrilogy release) he's always referred to the Biomechanoids as weapons. I personally. however, have another theory. (Bear with me on this one!) I know the #areyouseeingthis plot report has been beaten to death and accepted as fake across the board, but it does contain one very interesting segment. In summary; the Engineer's are androids created by higher beings that looked down upon them, and after a battle with these higher beings there are only a few engineers left. Then with the content of the ampules, the engineers attempted to create their own version of these higher beings that they can now look down on (role reversal). Experimentation goes pear shaped, and three of the four engineer's get impregnated with something that then kills them. Look closely on this image, and you'll notice the holes burst in each sarcophagus, but one. I think this is a monument to the being(s) that once ruled over the engineers. And I think this is what the engineers created, (notice the scar on the engineers chest, and the engineers pose, the creature is almost bowing down to him.) Anyway, sounds crazy, but that's my take!

@Shambhala Haha, I can hear the mob arriving already! But honestly, it makes some sense in the context of what we've seen right? However you slice it, something killed the other Engineers off...

Yes,the War is possible (maybe they are just androids or demigods) and maybe the last Engineers were killed by their own creations.

@Mentos That pretty much was the tale behind one of the suposed screener reviews, the one released by areyouseeingthis on that AVP Galaxy site. @Spartacus You have figured the plot out..... yes thats it, no way can Shaws Squid grow to that monster in next to no time. Look at that scene and you can see smoke..... see it... What happens is the Smoke comming from the ground in the one scene is the lost Smoke Monster which is also really what The Myst was... Thus this movie will tie in Lost and the Myst together.... Good work ;)

The engineer wrestling with Henry the Octopus in the gif does not show any ''burn'' damage to the head compared to the engineer shoving Shaw.

I'm going for this Engineer being Holloway. IMO this is because: 1. He doesn't seem big enough to be an Engineer. I'd guess it's Holloway nearing the end of his change and he's trying to protect Shaw from the giant squid baby. If you closely it seems to have legs - can't wait to see the hole thing. 2. From the cast list (unless it's fake) we know their to be just one Engineer, who is flying the Juganaut?? Unless someone or thing else does, or it is on auto pilot. Also the Prometheus looks to be destroyed.... tending me to think there is two ships. I have given up now though as I can't see anyone being able to guess what is happening in this movie. I will be seeing this for my self in 11 days :)

As much as I don't like them pulling more and more TMI's with each new trailer or commercial, at the same time it makes me more anxious to see the movie. If you look closely you can see the Blue Guy getting attacked by a bunch of tentacles.....Cuddles? My how you've grown.....though it's no surprise. So, the TV spot (I used to call them commercials) pretty much confirms that the sapient humanoids we recognized as the Space Jockeys.....are the Engineers. That's what some have speculated a while back here on the forums, but this TV spot pretty much etches it in stone. So who are the gods? Well, supposedly, we are the gods, as Mr. Weyland proclaimed in that TED video. Pfft. Some gods we are if we are standing before our creators. @Shawluv:D Akira. Cool. Except what we see in the TV spot isn't some ginormous blob.

I just hope Shaw's baby (or whatever that thing is) is way cooler looking than just a giant alien squid. Tentacled aliens/monsters have been done to death.

The creature looks to have two legs on our left hand side, that would indicate that it is huge, just a monster of a size. So who comes off the ship? The SJ/Blue guy or the big baby tentacle?
