Don't know anything about that... But unless the movement would serve some kind of purpose like revealing an opening or something like that, I think it would have been a little weird and unnecessary.
But I was relieved that the head didn't start talking and say Stuff like; "Who dare disturb the mighty head in his sleep?"

I heard it moved to reveal a passageway too. must have been some joker just making stuff up. I think it would have been cool if it blew up and a bunch of worms or a giant alien was inside.

it would have been interesting if the head was actually for something...but to be honest I think the only reason why it was there was to create some cool marketing devices and to inject a little bit of "Giger" style stuff into the film.

I don't think it was ever confirmed that it was supposed to anything.
However, I do think that, given the prominence of it and the way our attention was directed at it, a great majority of people rightfully and naturally assumed, expected and maybe even hoped that it would have some kind of actual particular significance to the story, beyond just being there looking moody - which, very disappointingly, seems to have been all it was for.
Without that huge and dramatic Head, the story we were told in this film would not be one little bit different at all - but that room wouldn't look so impressive.

let's not forget the significance of finding a human head so far from earth. People freaked out for a long time thinking some rocks on mars looked human, and that's a lot closer than LV-422.

I don't think it was supposed to be a Human head? Just, "remarkably human-like", - in order, I believe, to effectively convey the idea that Humans are actually Engineer-like.
However, that would have been just as surprising a fact if the head was at Human or Engineer scale - while sitting in the middle of the room doing nothing the whole film...it just wouldn't have filled that room with a focal point and shadows.

Oh goodness.....if the head had talked or slid sideways to reveal a secret chamber or something, people would just be complaining that it was cheesy, derivative, stupid, and/or meaningless.
I think that big projector on the bridge of the derelict should have been showing Jerry Lewis movies....just for the irony of it......definitely a missed opportunity.
