Maybe they dont, it is what makes them a perfect organism - they grow, adapt and then kill anything.

Removing any essential sustanance being required out of the equasion and then there you go. That just made me think does that possibly mean xeno's have a infinite lifespan as in they do not die by age they just are born, grow and then exist (or until a pulse rifle is embedded in the face)?

@Chr1s Ridley scott stated that the xenomorph has a short lifespan. For example, he said that the creature went to the narcissus in the first film because it was already in the end of its lifespan and it wanted to die there in a calm way (it knew that nostromo was in auto-destruct)
Have you heard of phoenix asteroids?
They glow in every color of the rainbow...they travel endlessly through space...

This is a great question.
Everything that LIVES has to eat. The xeno would have had to have eaten a LOT to grow from the stage that popped out of Kane into what snagged Brent and Dallas.
I surmise that he just found something nutritious and whatever it was, consumed it. The true proof of the excellence of its "design" would be that it could eat ANYTHING with caloric value and very quickly turn that into physical body mass.

Don't have a clue as what they eat but we know they make for notoriously unwelcome dinner guests.

There is a scene in the Alien novel where Ripley finds a locker that the Xeno broke into, apparently it ate everything from snack cakes to batteries. O_o

Giger has stated that the Xeno's life span is days ... as in maybe 6 of so ... can't remember where I read that now ... I wouldn't have thought they would eat ... because all the captured dudes get secreted, ready to go into Egg Form ...

Well, I don't think we ever see what the xenos eat.....but I can't imagine it being a vegetarian. xD
While it is still unborn, it does feed on the carrier's own consumptions, and apparently the host's appetite becomes ravenous, hence why they may not need to eat for long periods of time. Oh wait--

Really? Wow; I didn't know that. Kind of makes the xenomorph comparable to some type of moth (or other flying insect) that has a very, very short life-span (I don't know how long; it's either hours or days, but once again I don't know).....or, if one wants, comparable to a cherry blossom, though anyone who views the xenomorph as something as beautiful as a cherry blossom is missing a few screws or something.

Well if JJ Ambrahams was also on board it would have been...

When an organism grows, it is logically added mass to it's system. That mass comes from an outside source (it eats what it needs to increase cell production), usually a source based on it's physiology. Ash stated in Aliens that it was replacing it's initial makeup (protein polysaccharides) with polarized silicon. It could eat just about anything that would could be broken down into base materials that would fuel cell production.

Yeah Snorke ... but maybe the brain is also a quick way to die ... hence for humans a bullet in the brain :) ...

Reminds me of Battle Angel, where one of the villains consumed brains to get the endorphins he was addicted to.

I always assumed they didn't have to eat to sustain themselves. Whatever they needed they sapped from their original host and could exist without anything else. All sources in the original were either left after death or broken down into an egg.
Patch had a much more scientificly awesome answer though, so maybe I'll just use that as my headcanon from now on.
