As a child I could never explain the impact Alien had on me. Watching it over and over only stimulated my mind, Well, as I said, I'm still... collating, actually, but uh, I have confirmed that he's got an outer layer of protein polysaccharides. Has a funny habit of shedding his cells and replacing them with polarized silicon, which gives him a prolonged resistance to adverse environmental conditions. Is that enough? - in the original version or (cannon) the ship and the jockey are one and the same - the alien is one and the same with is its environment. (polarized silicon) - electric circuits- and crystal technology. I have seen the ending with the book! and it would have only been fitting with a creature made bio mechanical at the cellular level.

Yes indeed!! Dan O'Bannon may be the imagination behind Alien and Ridley Scott may be the legendary cinematographer he is but without Giger's artistic genius who really knows how things would had turn-up on 1979.

yep. Giger is definitely the lynchpin of
ALIEN, now (hopefully) PROMETHEUS
if it was not for his all too unique creative style,
ALIEN (i feel) would not have been so powerful a film
i have been thinking about Giger a lot the past few weeks,
so much so. i took it upon myself to make a digital collage
of some of my favorite artworks he's done
since i am not a masterful painter like he is,
at least i can composite in Photoshop
have a look - - GIGER CONFIGURATION

H.R. Giger is a genius. Everyone can just slam him like "He's creepy weeeeeh penises eeeeehhhh," but it's all part of the origin to his artistic style, which I'm sure most people wouldn't bother to read because they don't want to change their minds once they decide on something. I'm not to keen on seeing penises in art either, but if you're like me, you can see past it and notice the other vital details.....of course, those details creep others out as well. Feh....art is destined to be damned by the majority.
As for women complaining about Giger's art, well, we all know that they subconsciously like what they see. lol Unless it's a vagina.

It annoys me that most people only look at the Alien art work when they refer to Giger. This guy has a sense of humour and likes to explore different mediums and themes. Please people, branch out and look beyond the scope of alien when looking at Giger's work. This guy has such a unique interpretation on stuff.

Totally agree with all that's said here ... also even if he had little input on Prometheus he's still valid big time as the initial CREATOR of the BEST Alien (imho) EVER ... :) ...

The sexual imagery of Giger is completely absent in Prometheus. Worse, the set designs are more mechanical than bio. Big disappointment.

I live in Switzerland and here Giger's imagination get critics too. In a interview he talked about how he needs to design and make sculptures about his nightmares. He tries to get peace within himself by materializing obsessions of our society.
He is one of the few... if not the last surrealist alive!
He is great!! and Ridley was great on finding him!
