Do you think Prometheus dialogue will have any added camp value?

MemberOvomorphMay 27, 20123996 Views88 RepliesThe latest clip from Prometheus has the following line of dialogue" Vickers asks repeatedly "What did he said" to an overwhelmed David (background of ominous music), who says "It's Confidential", but after shes grabs him from the throat he replies "He said Try Harder", as she releases him he asks ironically "Cup of tea, Ma'am?", and she pushes him away from the face threateningly . I know Ridley Scott asked David to see Joseph Losey's "The Servant" in preparation for his role of his android "butler". But the dialogue sounded pretty overblown and campy to me. More like a dramatic confrontation right out of a Dynasty or a Dallas episode. I know the clip is out of context and I know I am risking excommunication from the Overlords of this board, but I would like to know what the rest of you think about this snippet of dialogue and clip.

I think Weyland is keeping Vickers in the dark, and David is the only one who Weyland trusts [as much as I trust a toaster]

i actually thought it was rather intense and well delivered....but then camp is not necessarily a bad thing either?

Fury 161May 27, 2012
there may be camp dialogue in this film but it ain't in this scene....this part has the best acting and delivery from any of the clips I have seen yet

Fury 161:
True. An intense psichological scene.

....I agree with you fury!....theron looks and sounds very intense!....but camp?...what does that even mean these days....was Hannibal camp in silence of the lambs?....

craigamoreMay 27, 2012
The only campy thing I've heard is when Holloway takes off his helmet in the structure saying, "It is the sweetest air I have ever tasted," like you might expect an overly flashy drama queen....It worries me a touch.....

David 1May 27, 2012
craigamore:
for "drama queen" please watch the kid from 6th Sense.

They are saying David provides the comic relief in the movie. I hope he does not turn out to be some kind of Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man. He was a butler too :-)

craigamoreMay 27, 2012
What??? Osment's performance was fantastic...that kid emoted more brilliantly than most adult actors do.......I respectfully disagree Uncle David 1......

JuxtaposeMay 27, 2012
...i can't stand child actors(well most of them)...those kids in super 8 ruined the movie completely!

SpartacusMay 27, 2012
you have got to be kidding me, that film bugged me for just one reason, his over acting caused me to immediately guess what the entire point of the film was, Willis being already dead...soley because of that Dreadful performance in that Dreadful film I was able to know the entire film 5 minutes into it and could not enjoy any part of the rest of it because of it. Good Kid, but I humbly disagree.
artyohMay 27, 2012
@craigamore
Whatever else he is, Holloway is clearly an arrogant douchebag. The line you quoted, is perfectly in keeping with that.

craigamoreMay 27, 2012
Well okay then...yeesh...childrens are gettin' no love here.......stupid Hobbitz'z...they ruined it for everyone under the age of 15...
SkyMay 27, 2012
What vickers said to david while pushing him on the wall? Her sound was less audible or it was just me?
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

craigamoreMay 27, 2012
True artyoh......and no worries Spart.......I humbly disagree as well....we can still be humbly disagreeing buddies.....

artyohMay 27, 2012
Yeah, I'm not getting all the hate on child-actors, either. Over the last couple of decades, we've seen a number of kids who can act amazingly well, including Dakota Fanning and Haley Joel Osment.

SvanyaMay 27, 2012
I haven't seen the full scene, where David talks about tea. Is there a link??
As far as camp value goes, someone posted a week or so ago about how cheesy Holloway's "That is the sweetest air I ever tasted" line was. *(Craigamore just posted about it here in this thread too.)
Bishop is Bae <3

SpartacusMay 27, 2012
I like em both, but all the same the parts they are paying they are both over acting in !!! and again they are written that way I think.

craigamoreMay 27, 2012
Yeah...I'm lost on that too artyoh.....I'd be pretty f@$%@& up and emotinal at that age too if I was seeing dead people...and not Casper the friendly ghost, but people hanging from nooses oN MY SCHOOL'S BLOODY CEILING and let's not forget the burn victim teacher missing half her face or the crazy lady cutting her self IN HIS BLOODY KITCHEN...........I think we'd all be a touch dramatic and...emotional.....

Fury 161May 27, 2012
Theron is an amazing actress. She is absolutely comfortable at comedy (great example of this is all her new vids on funny or die) and she can be extremely terrifying, like in this or monster.

JuxtaposeMay 27, 2012
....i actually thought the kid in 6th sense was ok....i think my hatred for child actors started after watching "the goonies" when i myself was just a kid.....now that was just terrible!....i was a huge Steven Spielburg fan...but I could not believe how annoyingly crap that movie was!

David 1May 27, 2012
artyoh and Craigmore:
Nothing against people who see dead people [my grandmother is a seer her self], but that kid IS ANNOYING. his face expression IS ANNOYING.
IMHO of course.

Spartacus:
true. I guessed the ending the same way.

craigamoreMay 27, 2012
Juxtapose......you're trashing The Goonies?......for shame my friend....FOR SHAME, indeed...tee hee

SpartacusMay 27, 2012
i respect your opinion man, you don't see to many other kids that can act that well it's true...I

SpartacusMay 27, 2012
but there always seemed to be something sinister about McCauley Culkin, you know what I mean?, same thing with these two, they are "TOO AWARE" for their age.

funny thing I love sham along a ding dong !!!
I Thought SIGNS and The Village Were Both awesome and ahead of their time!!!

David 1May 27, 2012
THE VILLAGE is a very good movie to watch at a Theatre. The Ending was superb and I somewhat relate to that need for refuge.

I'm getting flashes of something sinister about those who are "TOO AWARE" for their age.....
