The negative reviews give me this impression..Another movie this polarised is 'Drive'...garbage to morons, a masterpiece to fans of art cinema

Well after reading pretty much 90% of all of the plot details from a reviewer, I am leaning towards agreeing with you.
I think there is definitely a balance happening here between economics and fan appreciation.
The movie seems to be a mix of sci-fi cliche (potentially some cheese) mixed with some really great ideas and cinematography.
I'm excited to see it all come together on screen though. I'm still extremely excited!

Drive was indeed a telling artful movie. As I have said in the past, everyone can say what they like, it is up to the individual to stand strong and hold fast their own views and not be persuaded by the mob...

Same people who would shoot down "Drive" would do the same to "Vanishing Point"....to hell with em. This is hard sci fi the way I demand it...and have waited a long time for too

I feel like people who are seeing it just for a good scare may be a little disappointed. I think that us fans who're anticipating it will be happy, but more casual moviegoers might be bored, like you said.

"Drive" is a bit of an odd example to use, since it has a 92% Fresh rating from critics according to RottenTomatoes. That's pretty damn good.
If those same critics give Prometheus a lower aggregate score, will that suddenly change them from "fans of art cinema" to "morons?"

92%..that is high...but Drive did get a heap of negative reviews, including one American fat lady who tried to sue the studio due to a lack of actual driving in the movie
I'm afraid morons do exist...hence the reason why music like Lady Gaga and Rihanna is on non-stop replay, Michael Bay gets to make a 4th transformers movie and Apple MACs are taking over despite being mediocre PCs with a shiny case and shitty OS...

oh and as for the rating, it will even out more once hundreds of reviews come in...lots of movies start at 44% and build upto 78% etc...we need more review samples

You sir won the internet. My sentiments exactly.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

@sky....Howard Stern is my idol...better to speak ur mind boldly than become a sheep

LOL did a fat American lady actually sue over that?!?!?
OMG... sigh... yeah but that goes beyond "moron" into the realm of "inbred" :)
Or maybe just "batshit crazy..."

I'm having a hard time believing the plot details from the guy on the avp site. The press screening was for the press and this guy cant write himself out of a paper bag. Something seems off.

@RSAND....yes, but,
I'm thinking Ridley has just now returned to sci fi, and maybe he's going to pace himself in a certain way......his first sci fi put the audience in a position of being a passenger on a motorcycle behind a guy you've never met and wouldn't want to, and is going 150mph at night with no lights..and he's got a bag on his head.
His second was very cerebral, plus enough action and atmosphere included to satisfy, but not overload or unbalance the main theme.
I think Ridley, from the trailers at least, is mixing it up for this first effort back....I seriously doubt that Prometheus is the all out twisty, scary ride that Alien was......most people know he has said he wants to go new...give us something we havent seen before.
We know he has other projects in the pipe and I think he will get to that area that is more compelling and thought provoking,... remember, he didn't have the advantage this first time back that he had with Alien..an almost total surprise to most people, me for sure.
He'll get to it, I'm sure.

We'll all know soon enough, well not soon enough, but in the not too distant future... despite how it feels...
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!
