MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 6:58 PMSo I have been VERY excited anticipating this film - I have been really down lately and saying that the film has given me something to look forward to is a massive understatement...
Like a lot of the posters here I was really hoping it would be a landmark film. Is it? Probably not. Does it do what it set out to? Yes.
The cinematography and special effects are breathtaking - even though I spoilt the experience of the 'plot' for myself by reading spoilers I really enjoyed it and was thrilled by it.
Yes - some of the dialogue is hokey, some elements are unnecessary and possibly misguided, but I think the general story sticks to the themes RS wanted to explore and however much we may like or dislike his decisions, it was his film to make.
Should there be a sequel, honestly no. I think this film does actually fill in much of what we asked for and a sequel could be quite bad. I personally didn't warm to Noomi Rapace and can't see where the story would go for it to be interesting. The Engineers would kill her in an instant anyway, wouldn't they?
The film has a sense of humour, which I wasn't expecting and that made me love it more - it is serious about itself but doesn't take itself too seriously.
To be honest I can't see the point in raking over what does and doesn't add up or make sense - I actually think Lindelof's credo of leaving some questions unanswered makes sense here...
All the main actors do great work (though I still found Holloway a douchebag). The only weak performance for me was the scottish actress who played Ford, otherwise they all do well with the material they are given.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 7:18 PMActually, the Engineers planet will be different to an 'Army Installation' on a moon outcrop and a meeting with one possible soldier Engineer is a different thing. Were they 'rogue' or typical - if you meet one person who wants to kill you, you couldn't say the whole of humanity would do the same.
But yes, it may work as a standalone piece - Ridley won't be coming back to it...

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 7:25 PMI agree with your interpretation - they might be different... I thought it was interesting at the end - just what did make them change their minds about humans?
My friends were all convinced RS would do a sequel. I think he was just bluffing for publicity.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 7:28 PMYeah - Ridley won't live long enough to do a sequel, sadly. Unless an Engineer can help him to live longer....Uh-Oh!!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 7:33 PMA friend said he'd get one of those funky Weyland mecha suits to keep him moving around (I said with RS's wife he certainly wouldn't need an extension to keep his pecker up!) ;-)

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 7:34 PMI really doubt that Ridley would be involved in a sequel. But FOX can do what he pleases...
