Perhaps this planet is where the Engineers/Jockeys/Blue Man Group keep their experiments that have gone 'wrong' and aren't meant to be 'delivered'. The crew blunder in and open up pandora's urns, unleashing the weapons/rejects etc.
(Still doesn't completely explain how Ridley states the original derelict has been left on another planet with the Xeno eggs for 'millions of years' unnoticed but is just a brainwave)
Secondly, it seems that there are several different things happening to the crew in the trailers:
Holloway getting a worm in his eye (stated somewhere that he's infected after deciding to take his helmet off) - he then persuades them to let him back on board after going veiny and then goes berserk (jumping on the guy from above)
Fifield getting his helmet sucked into his face and then mutating
Milburn petting the snake alien then getting heavy petted in the mouth in return
Kate Dickie's character peering at one of the characters (Milburn?) and getting it 'in the neck' in return
Shaw having a C-section of a tentacled snake/Xeno like 'thing'
Given the gory ends they all meet, why would those who mutate turn into the Engineers (as several people here imagine). Though none of us know what's going to happen as we haven't seen it, that would be lame - and wouldn't make much sense - would it?
Given the Engineer/Blue Guy/SJ Shaw appears to be fighting with has been burnt and hasn't died, and she screams DIEEEEEEE at him, does this suggest that the aliens are immortal and that is what Weyland is searching for/wants to steal from them?
